Open a new casebook

Open a saved casebook

In the Case Wizard, click the New


Case tab and then select the
forms that will make up your
new casebook.

Click the Cases on File tab to


select and open a casebook
that has been saved on
your computer.

Search for a saved casebook

Open a new drawing

Click the Search tab to search


for a word or string of words in
casebook data.

Click the New Drawing tab to


start a new casebook containing
a single diagram page

Navigate through the interface

The basic form interface is made


up of the following:
a. Menu bar

This is where you order or delete


a current form, or add a new
form. Click OK to save changes.

the diagram editor. Begin
by dragging shapes onto the
diagram or click here to open the
template selection window. Buttons at the top provide additional
template collections. Select a
template that best fits the layout
you need and click OK.

Add streets and structures

Move to another layer

Search for symbols

Search for a specific symbol by


typing the name of that symbol
into the Symbol Search Box.

The Base Layer is the foundation


of your diagram. This is where
you add streets, structures, and
corresponding components.

Your diagram is created on three


layers Base Layer, Symbols, and
Measurements. Once the streets
and/or structures are in place, click
on the Symbols tab to add vehicles,
signs, evidence, and other objects.

You have two options for


manipulating the properties of a
selected shape:
Properties bar
Shapes, or symbols, are found
on the right side of the window.
Select the shape you want and
drag it onto the work area.

Create a library of your favorite


symbols by right clicking on the
symbol and selecting Add to
Favorites. You also can view your
Frequently Used and Recently
Used symbols.

Modify shapes/symbols

Properties bar, located at the


bottom of the work area, displays
modifiable settings for the selected
object. For Example, you can:
Name the object
Change the objects color
Flip the object
And more

Right-click on the shape and
select Properties to open the
Properties window. Click OK to
save changes.

Position shapes/symbols

When you click on an object, small green shapes or handles appear.


Drag these handles to resize, rotate, or curve objects.
Use the circle to rotate an object.
Use the squares to shrink, enlarge, widen or
lengthen the object.
Use the diamond to create a curve between
the two nearest square handles.
Use the triangle to adjust a portion of an
object in the direction indicated by the triangle.

Vehicle symbols are examples


of rectangular symbols. They
can be cloned, flipped, and
ungrouped.

Cloning a Symbol
Select the symbol. Hold down
the CTRL key and drag. When you
are finished positioning the clone,
release the mouse button.

Linear symbols include specialized technology that allows for a


repeat at an established interval.
Linear symbols include: fences,
stream edges, railings, sidewalks,
Fences, Powerlines, Barriers, etc.
Curve
Right-click on the symbol. Select
Set Profile and click Arc.

Flipping a Symbol
With the symbol selected, click
the desired Flip button on the
Properties bar.

Ungroup a Symbol
Right-click on the symbol. Select
ungroup in the popup menu.

Segment
To add multiple curves, right-click
on the green diamond handle on
the symbol and click Split Segment.

Draw
Painter technology allows you
to easily draw an unusual shape.
Double-click on the shape/symbol.
On the work area, begin drawing
left-click at each corner point;
right-click to stop drawing.
Note: Painter technology also
applies to structure symbols.

Group

Articulating symbols give you the


ability to rotate or position parts
of the symbol.

Drag the corresponding tool over


a body part to Remove Body Part,
Bring Part to Front, or Send Part
to Back. Drag circle-handles to
rotate body parts

Right-click on the shape, select


Arrange and click Bring to Front or
Send to Back

To group several symbols together,


highlight the symbols, right click
off the symbol and select Group
from the options window.

Clone a diagram

Print to Scale

Duplicate an existing diagram to


show sequencing or varying views.
To clone a diagram, click the arrow
next to the Diagram row on the
Diagram Form and select Clone. If
you change your mind, follow the
same steps to Delete the diagram
clone. You can also Insert a new
Diagram following the same process.

To print a single diagram to a specific scale, select the File menu and Print to Scale.
Select a standard scale from the list or enter a custom scale factor. Click OK.

Create a custom template

Any diagram may be saved as


a template. Once the diagram
is complete, select the File
menu and Save As Template.
Select the template group,
check the layers that make up
the diagram, type a template
description, and click OK.

WORKING WITH ATTACHMENTS


Manage attachments

Add attachments

ATTAC supports attachments


including images (JPG, BMP, TIF, etc.),
Audio, and Video files. Click the Add
Attachments button to open the Add
Attachments window. Select the files
you wish to attach and click OK.
Note: Check the Thumbnail View box to see a preview of image files or use the
show options to show or hide specific types of files.

Link an attachment

Right-click on the thumbnail


view to move attachment up or
down in the Attachments navigator. You also have the option
to rename the attachment, or
delete it altogether.

diagram to show the location and
orientation of the camera at the
time the photograph was taken or
where the evidence was gathered.
Simply click on the thumbnail
view and drag onto the diagram
work area.

Modify an attachment

Click on a thumbnail view to add


a description to the attachment.
For image attachments you may
also annotate, rotate, crop, adjust brightness and contrast, or
save image via the corresponding button.

OUTPUTTING CASEBOOK DATA


Save as FireScene file or XML

Select the File menu and


Save As. Specify the folder in
which you wish to save the
file, type a file name, select
FireScene Casebook (*.spp)
and click Save.

Create PowerPoint

You can output diagrams and attachments of


the current casebook directly to PowerPoint:
on the File menu, select Create PowerPoint
Presentation.

Create PDF

Output the casebook to PDF


by selecting Create PDF on the
File menu.

Print standard

To print your casebook in standard format, select


the File menu and Print. The Print window will
open. Select printer, print range, number of
copies, and click Print.

Multiple Curves

Make an overpass

Profile. Then click Double Arc
or Triple Arc depending on how
many curves are needed.

3. With arrow keys on keyboard move each horizontal segment


toward the vertical segment until they almost touch.

Glossary of terms
Casebook

Electronic record of a case. The casebook is made up of forms, diagrams and attachments.

Form

An electronic page formatted with blank fields that users fill with case data. Forms
may include several data entry options, such as drop-downs, checkboxes, and
acquisition buttons. Forms may also include rich text or diagram fields.

Formset

Set of forms included with each ScenePDPro application. Users select individual forms
from the formset to build a casebook.

Handles

Diagram editor

Small green shapes that appear when an object in the work area is selected;
handles are used to resize, rotate, and curve objects.

LTI (Station Line import)


Diagram editor

Laser Technology, Inc.: ScenePDPro Station Line Import feature is programmed to work
with raw data from an LTI laser measurement device.

Menu bar

A row of menus that appears near the top of the ScenePDPro window, directly under the
title bar. Users click on a menu to access a drop-down list of options.
Note: Contents on the menu bar are context-specific.

Painter technology
Diagram editor

Specialized drawing technology activated when users double-click on a structure or


linear symbol in a toolset. Allows users to quickly draw complex layouts.

Tabset

Diagram editor

Layer navigational tabs located along the right side of the work area. To access a
layer, users click the corresponding tab.

Toolbar


A row of icons that when clicked, activate frequently used commands.


The ScenePDPro editor includes two toolbars: a standard toolbar, located
directly below the menu bar, with access to such tools as cut, paste, etc; and a
Drawing toolbar, located directly above the work area, with access to drawing tools.

Toolset

Set of tools or symbols that can be dragged onto the diagram work area to
complete a scene. Tools/symbols are accessed by clicking on a toolset button,
located on the right side of the ScenePDPro window.
