Please read these safety notes carefully before using this
product.
Your Xerox equipment and recommended supplies have been
designed and tested to meet strict safety requirements. These
include safety agency approval, and compliance to established
environmental standards. Please read the following instructions
carefully before operating the equipment and refer to them as
needed to ensure the continued safe operation of your
equipment.
The safety and environment testing and performance of this
equipment have been verified using specified materials only.
WARNING: Any unauthorized alternation, which may include the
addition of new functions or connection of external
devices, may impact the equipment certification. Please
contact your authorized local dealer for more information

All warning instructions marked on or supplied with the
equipment should be followed.

Electrical Supply
This equipment shall be operated from the type of electrical
supply indicated on the equipment s data plate label. If you are
not sure that your electrical supply meets the requirements,
please consult your local power company for advice.
WARNING: This product must be connected to a protective earth
circuit.
This equipment is supplied with a plug that has a protective
earth pin. This plug will fit only into an earthed electrical outlet.
This is a safety feature. To avoid risk of electric shock, contact
your electrician to replace the electrical outlet if you are unable
to insert the plug into it. Never use an earthed adapter plug to
connect the product to an electrical outlet that lacks an earth
connection terminal.

Maintenance
Customer maintenance procedures will be described in the user
documentation supplied with the equipment. Do not to carry out
any maintenance on this equipment, which is not described in
the customer documentation.
Ink
When handing ink cartridges avoid skin or eye contact. Eye
contact can cause irritation and inflammation.
Do not attempt to disassemble the ink cartridge. This can
increase the risk of skin or eye contact.
The inks used with this equipment are manufactured by Mutoh
for use with the Xerox equipment. For material safety

Media Cover
Take care to avoid finger pinches when opening and closing the
media cover.
Cutter
Do not contact the sharp edges of the cutter blade.

Disconnect Device
The power cable is the disconnect device for this equipment. It
is attached to the back of the machine as a plug-in device. To
remove all electrical power from the equipment, disconnect the
power cable from the electrical outlet.

Do Not Do These:
Never use a plug that lacks an earth connection
terminal to connect the equipment to an electrical
outlet.
Never attempt any maintenance function that is not
specifically described in this documentation.
Never remove covers or guards that are fastened with
screws. There are no operator serviceable areas within
these covers.
Never locate the equipment near a radiator or any other
heat source.
Never push objects of any kind into the ventilation
openings.
Never override or cheat any of the electrical or
mechanical interlock devices.
Never operate the equipment if you notice unusual
noises or odors. Disconnect the power cord from the
electrical outlet and contact your local Xerox Service
Representative or Service Provider immediately.
Maintenance Information
Do not attempt any maintenance procedure that is not
specifically described in the documentation that is supplied with
your equipment.
Do not use aerosol cleaners. The use of cleaners that
are not approved may cause poor performance of the
equipment, and could create a dangerous condition.
Use supplies and cleaning materials only as directed in
this manual. Keep all of these materials out of the
reach of children.
Do not remove covers or guards that are fastened with
screws. There are no parts behind these covers that
you can maintain or service.
Do not perform any maintenance procedures, which are
not specifically described in the user manuals.
For Consumables
Store all consumables in accordance with the instructions given
on the package or container.
Keep all consumables away from the reach of children.
Never throw ink cartridges into an open flame.
Always dispose of used ink cartridges in compliance
with local regulations.

of the European Union as of the dates indicated:
January 1, 1995: Council Directive 72/23/EEC amended by
Council directive 93/68/EEC, approximation of the laws of the
member states related to low voltage equipment.
January 1, 1996: Council directive 89/336/EEC, approximation
of the laws of the member states related to electromagnetic

In this section, the procedures for assembling the plotter are
explained.

Power cable
In this section, the main features of the plotter are explained.
IMPORTANT:
Make sure that the included power cable is used. If other
power cables are used, it could cause an electric shock or fire.
Do not use a damaged power cable. It could cause an
electric shock or fire.
Follow the steps below to connect the power cable.
1. Make sure that the power key is turned OFF.
NOTE: The power is switched ON when the [Power] key of the
operation panel is pressed. In that case, press the key once
again to switch OFF the power.
2. Plug the power cable to the AC inlet at the back of the
plotter.

Step 2 :
The ink cartridges must be inserted in a specific slot according to the type and colour used.
Insert the cartridges with the arrow mark face-up and pointing to the front of the printer.
Insert the cartridges as far as possible.
Install all four colors.
Match the color marked on the side of the slot with the color of the ink cartridge.

Notes
The 7142 ink cartridges have been developed in such a way that miss-insertion is not possible. For each
colour, a different design is used, i.e., fins are placed at the outside of each cartridge, at different locations,
depending on the ink colour used.
Result:
The operation panel displays "Ink Refill **min", and the initial ink replenishment starts.
The ink replenishment takes about five minutes. Initial ink replenishment and pause
operation are repeated during initial filling.
After the ink replenishment is completed, the operation panel displays "Paper End".
Notes
After an initial ink fill, the following can occur :
If this is the case, perform a head cleaning, two to three times, as described in the Users Guide, and check
the results. If the quality of the printed image has not improved, even after performing head cleaning, then
leave the plotter unused for more than one hour. After that, perform a head cleaning again and check the
printed image. If the quality still hasnt improved, than contact your local MUTOH dealer.

6. Preparing the PC
Connecting network interface cable
To connect the plotter to your PC with a network interface cable, follow the steps below.

7. Installing Media
Installing roll media
To install the roll media, follow the steps below.

If using media on a 2 inch core: Dont use the three-inch core adapters, go to step 3.
If using media on a 3 inch core : Click a three-inch core adapter (3) on the
fixed flange (2) and the movable flange (1) as shown on the image below.

Push the roll media (2) on the scroller and slide it over the fixed flange (1).

Caution
Do not use the media hold lever during plotter initialization. If the carriage and the pressure rollers
touch each other, the plotter may break down.

Notes
Make sure the roll media is properly wound up on the media core.
If the front edge of the roll media is not straight, cut it straight, using the cutter blade.
If the front edge of the roll media is curled, cut it off, using the cutter blade.

The plotter starts the media initialization without setting the media type when

Head cleaning
To perform a head cleaning, follow the steps below.
Step 2 :
Verify that the media hold lever is positioned to the front side. (lever down)
Step 3 :
Press the [Cleaning] key on the operation panel for at least 2 seconds. See below.
NOTE: Multiple cleanings may be needed to obtain an acceptable Nozzle Check Test Pattern.
