7.3 Configuring the Ethernet Port on the IPM Card

In the backplane, the IPM card provides four FE ports to cascade the slave frame. In
the front panel, the IPM card provides one FE optical port, two FE electrical/optical
ports, and one or two GE optical ports to connect the upstream equipment.
Ethernet ports on the IPM card are numbered as follows.
z

01: The two ports on the Ethernet subcard. The upper port is numbered as 0, and
the lower port as 1. If the subcard offers only one FE or GE port, the port number is
0.

25: The four FE ports used for subtending the slave frame.

67: Two internal FE ports used to connect the PVM card. The port attributes must
be consistent with those of the ports of the PVM card. These two FE ports are
configured together. Use the default value in general.

Follow the steps below to configure an Ethernet port.

I. Setting the duplex mode of an Ethernet port

To set the duplex mode of an Ethernet port, use the duplex command.
Huawei Technologies Proprietary
7-4

Operation Manual IPM Volume

UA5000 Universal Access Unit

Chapter 7 Configuring Ports

There are two types of duplex states: half duplex and full duplex.
z

In the half duplex mode, a port is allowed to transmit or receive data in only one
direction.

In the full duplex mode, a port is allowed to transmit and receive data
simultaneously.

When you configure the duplex mode, keep two connected ports consistent, and avoid
half duplex at one end but full duplex at the other.
Do not configure the duplex mode for an aggregation port.

II. Setting the line type of an Ethernet port

To set the line type of an Ethernet port, use the mdi command. The line types of
interconnected ports must be set consistently.
This setting is applicable to FE electrical ports, and not to FE/GE optical ports.
The network cable type of an FE electrical port can be either straight through or
cross-over cable. By default, the MDI type of the FE electrical port is auto (auto
sensing).

III. Setting the bit rate of an Ethernet port

Use the speed command to set the bit rate of an Ethernet port. The bit rate of two
interconnected ports must be consistent.
An FE electrical port supports both 10 Mbit/s and 100 Mbit/s. Its default setting is auto
(auto negotiation), and 100 Mbit/s is recommended.
An FE optical port supports only 100 Mbit/s, and a GE optical port supports only 1000
Mbit/s.

IV. Enabling/Disabling the flow control of an Ethernet port

Use the flow-control command to enable the flow control. Use the undo flow-control
command to disable it. By default, the flow control of an Ethernet port is disabled.
If congestion occurs, the system performs flow control only when it is enabled.

7.3.5 Configuring the Default VLAN of a Port

For the system to be compatible with terminals that do not support VLAN, configure a
default VLAN for the Ethernet ports on the IPM card. To configure a default VLAN for an
Ethernet port, use the native-vlan command.
When a port receives packets:
z

If the packets do not contain any VLAN tag, assign the default VLAN tags to them.

If the packets already contain VLAN tags, do not add the information.

When a port transmits packets:

Huawei Technologies Proprietary

7-5

Operation Manual IPM Volume

UA5000 Universal Access Unit

Chapter 7 Configuring Ports

If the default VLAN of the port is the same as the VLAN included in the transmitted

packets, the system removes the VLAN tag from these packets.
If not, the port keeps the VLAN tag with these packets for transparent VLAN

transmission.
By default, the ID of the default VLAN (PVID) is 1. To modify the default VLAN of a port,
do as follows:
1)

Create a standard VLAN, and then assign the port to the VLAN.

2)

Define the created VLAN as the default VLAN.

Note:
z

A port can be configured with only one default VLAN.

Different ports can have the same default VLAN.

Example
To set the default VLAN of port 1 as 5, do as follows.
huawei(config-if-ipm-0/3)#native-vlan
{ portid<U><0,7>|all<K> }:1
{ vlan<K> }:vlan

{ vlanid<U><1,4000> }:5

7.3.6 Configuring the Traffic Suppression

You can limit the throughput of broadcast packets, multicast packets and unknown
unicast packets passing through a port by discarding the packets that exceed the set
limit. This prevents the system from malicious attacks from unknown users and avoids
network congestion.
The UA5000 provides 12 traffic suppression levels.
To query the 12 traffic suppression levels, use the display traffic-suppress command.
Example
To query the traffic suppression level of port 0/3/2 on the IPM card, do as follows:
huawei(config-if-ipm-0/3)#display traffic-suppress
{ portid<L><0,7>|all<K> }:2

suppression levels for the multicast packets. Hence, disable the IGMP proxy before
configuring a traffic suppression level.

I. Setting a traffic suppression level

To set the traffic suppression level for a packet type, use the traffic-suppress
command.
Example
To set the traffic suppression level for broadcast packets on port 0/3/2 on the IPM card
as 6, do as follows:

7.3.7 Aggregating Ethernet Ports

To aggregate Ethernet ports, use the link-aggregation command. To delete the
aggregated Ethernet port, use the undo link-aggregation command.
Port aggregation is intended to bundle multiple ports together so that the incoming and
outgoing load can be distributed among member ports. Meanwhile, to increase the
security of a link, ports within an aggregation group can serve as a backup for each
other.
Up to four aggregation groups can be configured for one IPM card, with each group
containing up to eight ports.

Note:
The operations on the master port take effect on all ports in the aggregation group.

Two aggregation modes are available: ingress and ingress-egress. The ingress mode
means that packets are distributed among member ports according to the source MAC
address. The ingress-egress mode means that packets are distributed among member
ports according to both the source and destination MAC addresses.
To aggregate multiple physical ports, make sure that the following preconditions are
met.
z

All physical ports are located in the same slot.

All these ports work in the full duplex mode.

The network cable of these ports cannot be in the auto negotiation mode.

These ports work at the same bit rate and the bit rate cannot be in the auto
negotiation mode.

These ports have the same default VLAN (PVID) and VLAN attributes.

A port belongs to only one aggregation group.

None of these ports is a member of an aggregation group

None of these ports is a mirror destination port.

Example
To configure an ingress aggregation group consisting of ports 0 and 1, do as follows.

7.3.8 Configuring Ethernet Port Mirroring

The IPM card has the port-based mirroring function. It can duplicate the packets
passing one or multiple ports (source port) to the monitor port (destination port) for
analysis and monitoring. With the port mirroring function, you can monitor all source
ports by analysing the packets of the destination port, greatly facilitating the fault
location.
To configure port mirroring, use the mirror port command. To eliminate port mirroring,
use the undo mirror port command.

Note:
z

Do not define an aggregated port as the mirror destination port. You can define it as
the mirror source port.

The switchover of the control card clears all port mirroring settings.

7.4.13 Configuring the ALS Switch of an Optical Port

When a communication link fails, the Automatic Laser Shutdown (ALS) function can
shut down the optical sources automatically at both ends of the link. After that, the
devices on both sides send optical signals regularly to detect the link state until the link
resumes. After the link resumes, the optical ports on both sides work normally.

I. Enabling/Disabling the ALS function

To enable or disable the ALS function, use the als enable/disable command. By
default, the function is disabled. When the ALS function is disable, the optical port on
the device does not shut down even when the link fails.
Example
Assume that:
z

The delay time of sending the optical detection signal is 100s (delaytime).

The port sends the optical detection signal at the interval of 50s (txontime).

To enable the ALS function, do as follows:

huawei(config-if-aiu-0/7.optic)#als enable

To query the line state of an E3/DS3 port, use the display linestatus command. The
state can be basic line state or extended line state.

7.5.10 Querying the Interval Statistics

To query the statistics within different intervals for an E3/DS3 port, use the command
below:
display interval-statistics port { current-15minutes | last-24hours |
15minutes-Interval 15minutes-IntervalNo}
The parameters are described below:
z

current-15minutes means to query the statistics of current 15 minutes.

last-24hours means to query the statistics of current 24 hours.

15minutes-Interval means to query the statistics by the time interval (15

minutes).

15minutes-InvervalNo is the interval index (196).

The query interval is 15 minutes. So, the query times within 24 hours is 96
(24 60/15=96).

7.5.11 Setting the Loopback

z

To carry out the loopback test, use the loopback command.

To stop the loopback, use the undo loopback command.

Loopback test is a frequently used troubleshooting method. The E3/DS3 port supports
both local loopback and remote loopback.
z

In the local loopback, cells from the AIU card to the E3/DS3 port are sent back to
the AIUB card directly.

In the remote loopback, cells received by the E3/DS3 port are sent out directly and
do not pass through the AIUB card.

7.5.12 Querying the Configuration of a Card and Its Ports

To query the details of a card and its ports, use the display board command.

7.6 Configuring the IMA Port

The Inverse Multiplexing for ATM (IMA) de-multiplexes the ATM cell flow into multiple
low-speed links, and multiplexes them at the far end to reassemble the original ATM
cell flow. The IMA enables transmitting ATM cells over existing links (especially 2 Mbit/s
links).

z

Chapter 7 Configuring Ports

minTxLinks and minRxLinks indicate the minimum numbers of transmitted links

and received links respectively. One IMA group shall have at least one link. So, the
minimum link number shall be configured. These two parameter values are the
same.

CTC and ITC refer to two types of clock modes. Common Transmit Clock (CTC)
means that the transmitting clocks of all links in the group lock the same clock
source. Independent Transmit Clock (ITC) means that the transmitting clocks of
links in the group lock different clock sources. When the IMA uses the system
clock, configure the CTC mode for the group clock. When the IMA uses the line
clock, configure the ITC mode for the group clock.

Framelength indicates the length of an IMA frame, that is, the number of cells one
IMA frame contains. The values include 32, 64, 128, and 256. Usually select 128.

alpha, beta and gamma are the status machine parameters of the IMA. When the
IMA link receives consecutively a certain number of frames of the specified type
(the number is specified by alpha_value, beta_value, and gamma_value
respectively), the status of IMA group will transfer.

The settings of an IMA group shall be consistent at both near end and far end. The links
of an IMA group at near end cannot be configured to two IMA groups at far end.
For example, to add an IMA group, do as follows:
huawei((config-if-aiu-0/6.ima)#ima group add 0 version1.1 2 2 ctc 0 128 2 2
1

Note:
z

One IMA subcard supports four IMA groups. Each group can be configured with one
to eight E1 links. Each E1 link can belong to only one IMA group.

One IMA group has one group index and one IMA ID. These two values are often
set to be the same.

7.6.3 Querying an IMA Group

7.7.1 Querying the ADSL Port State

To query the ADSL port state, use the display port state command.
The state includes: activating, activated, deactivating and deactivated. Among them,
the activating and deactivating states are transitional states.
By default, the ADSL port uses the default line profile 1, and the ADSL2+ port uses the
default line profile 1002. Once a port is connected with an ATU-R and the link between
ATU-R and ATU-C is normal, the port is activated.

7.7.2 Setting the ADSL Line Profile

Set the following parameters when you activate the ADSL port:
z

ADSL working mode

Channel mode

Upstream and downstream line rates

Signal to noise ratio (SNR) margin

Most of these parameters are the same for all the ATM ports. The ADSL line profile sets
these parameters. So, after the profile is configured successfully, the port can reference
it in the activation.

I. Adding the ADSL line profile

Use the adsl line-profile add command to add an ADSL line profile.
The UA5000 has four default profiles, with the profile indexes 1, 1000, 1001 and 1002.
Their functions are as follows:
z

Use profile 1 to activate the common ADSL port.

Use profile 1000 to activate the common ADSL port quickly.

Use profile 1001 to activate the long-distance ADSL port.

Use profile 1002 to activate ports on the ADSL2+ cards.

Parameters in the default profile are only for reference. You can change them if
necessary.
Figure 73 shows the configuration procedure for the ADSL line profile.

Description

The connection cannot be created for the ADSL port if the working mode of the
UA5000 is different from that of the ATU-R. In the actual application, the ATU-R
uses any type of G992.15, and T1.413. So, select the 0 for the ADSL port. The
ATU-R decides the specific working mode.
z

Set the trellis coding.

>

Trellis coding 0-disable 1-enable (01) [1]:1

Input 1 to select the trellis coding.

The trellis coding can increase the SNR to enhance the stability of the ADSL
connection. Enable the trellis coding for ADSL2+ ports. For ADSL parameters, this
function is not required.
z

Set the downstream and upstream bit swap.

The performance instability of the ADSL channels may deteriorate the SNR of
some sub-carriers, and the bits transmitted by these sub-carriers cannot be
supported. With the bit swap function, the system exchanges one bit transmitted
by this sub-carrier to another one.

Note:
z

The bit swap takes effect only when both the ADSL cards and the RTU support the
bit swap.

Enable this function to test the seamless rate adaptive function of the
ADSL2/ADSL2+.

The bit swap must be set both downstream and upstream:

Chapter 7 Configuring Ports

Upstream channel bit swap 0-disable 1-enable (0~1) [1]:

Select the channel working mode.

>

Please select channel mode 0-interleaved 1-fast (0~1) [0]:0

Input 0 to enable the interleaved mode, or 1 to enable the fast mode.

There are two channel modes: interleaved mode and fast mode. By default, the
interleaved mode is enabled. In the fast mode, the transmission delay of the ADSL
data is smaller than that in the interleaved mode, but the fast mode is less stable
than the interleaved mode. For the Internet access service, use the interleaved
mode. For delay sensitive services such as VOD, use the fast mode.
If you select the fast mode, you must set the SNR and the upstream and
downstream rate of the modem. If you select the interleaved mode, you must set
the interleaved parameters as follows.
5)

Set the interleaved delay.

>

>

Please select form of transmit rate adaptation in downstream:

>

0-fixed 1-adaptAtStartup 2-adaptAtRuntime (0~2) [1]: 2

The mode includes fixed, adapt at startup and adapt at runtime. When the default
parameter type is ADSL, only 0 and 1 are available. The downstream rate can be
trained in various situations.
z

Fixed: In this mode, the ADSL port is activated at the fixed downstream rate. The
rate must be the same as the maximum/minimum downstream rate set in the line
profile.

Adapt at startup: In this mode, the ADSL port sets up a connection at the best rate
based on the result of its training with the ATU-R. The rate falls in the range of the
maximum and minimum rates set in the profile.

Adapt at runtime: In this mode, the line rate is adjusted according to the line state.
If the line state deteriorates, lower the rate to enhance the stability of the
connection. If the line state is good, increase the line rate.

Note:
Only the ADSL2 or ADSL2+ supports adaptation at runtime. The ADSL does not
support this function.

7)

Set the modem SNR margin.

>

Chapter 7 Configuring Ports

Will you set SNR margin for modem? (y/n)[n]: y

Select the default value generally. Input N to ignore the SNR margin of the
modem. Input Y to set the modem SNR margin.
In the line parameters, the SNR margin includes target SNR margin, maximum
SNR margin and minimum SNR margin.
SNR margin for a modem is directly proportional to the stability of the ADSL
connection. That is to say, the larger the SNR margin for the modem, the more
stable is the ADSL connection. However, the SNR margin is inversely proportional
to the bit rate of an activated physical connection. That is to say, the larger the
SNR margin, the lower is the activated physical connection rate.
To set the SNR margin, the system prompts the following information.
z

Set the target downstream SNR margin.

>

Target SNR margin in downstream(0~15dB) [6]:

The target SNR margin refers to the noise margin reserved when the data
communication is normal. It is used to keep the communication normal if the line
noise deteriorates. The larger the SNR margin, the smaller is the possibility of a
system transmission error, and the safer is the system. However, the larger the
SNR margin, the smaller is the traffic flow, and the lower is the data transmission
rate.
After the target SNR margin is set, the ADSL creates the connection and
determine the physical rate of the connection based on this SNR margin.
z

Set the minimum downstream SNR margin.

>

Minimum SNR margin in downstream (0~6 dB) [0]:

If the SNR margin is smaller than the minimum SNR margin, the system increases
the transmission power. After that, if the problem persists, reactivate the line.
z

Set the maximum downstream SNR margin.

>

Maximum SNR margin in downstream (6~31 dB) [31]:

Use the default value 31 dB.

If the line SNR margin is larger than the maximum SNR margin, the system lowers
the transmission power.
z

Set the target upstream SNR margin.

The system adjusts the line rate only when the SNR margin reaches the threshold
for enabling the adaptAtRuntime function and keeps the state for a period. The
period of time is the shift time.
> Will you set shifttime? (y/n)[n]:y

>

Will you set parameters for rate? (y/n)[n]:Y

Input N to ignore the setting, or input Y to set the rate parameters.

The rate settings are related to the stability of the connection. Under the same
conditions, a very high rate results in an unstable connection. In general, the
default settings are recommended.
To set the rate parameters, the system prompts the following information.
z

Set the minimum downstream bit rate.

>

Minimum bit rate in downstream (32~32000 Kbps) [32]:

If the calculated downstream rate is smaller than the minimum downstream rate,
the port is not activated.

Note:
z

You cannot delete the ADSL line profiles 1, 1000, 1001 and 1002.

You can also not delete ADSL line profiles referenced by the port.

7.7.3 Setting the ADSL Alarm profile

You can use the ADSL alarm profile to set alarm thresholds, to count and supervise the
performances of an active ADSL line. Once the threshold exceeds the limit, the
UA5000 informs the equipment of the event, and sends alarms to the log host and the
NMS.
In practice, as most of the ports share the same settings, the UA5000 system provides
the ADSL alarm profile. After the profile is set successfully, use the alarm-config
command to bundle a port.

I. Adding an ADSL alarm profile

To add an ADSL alarm profile, use the adsl alarm-profile add command.

Note:
The UA5000 has its own ADSL alarm profile, with an index 1. By default, the ADSL port
is bound with this profile.

7.7.4 Binding the ADSL Alarm Profile

After the ADSL alarm profile is set, bundle an ADSL port with an alarm profile. When the
performance statistics exceeds a threshold within 15 minutes, the system will report
alarms automatically. By default, alarm profile 1 is bound.
To bind the ADSL port list and specify the ADSL port, use the alarm-config command
in ADSL card configuration mode, use the alarm-config command to bundle the ADSL
port list and specify the ADSL port. Use the alarm-config all command to bundle all
ports.

7.7.5 Setting the ADSL Extended Line Profile

The UA5000 segments the ADSL transmission band to multiple sub-carriers. For ADSL,
there are 256 sub-carriers. For ADSL2+, there are 512 sub-carriers. Each sub-carrier
bears a number of bits. If the noise is too large in a line, the sub-carrier bears few bits
and cannot be used. The ADSL extended line profile is a collection of the unstable
sub-carriers. When you activate the ADSL port, the profile can mask the unstable
sub-carriers and ensure the security of transmission.

I. Adding an ADSL extended line profile

To add an ADSL extended line profile, use the adsl extline-profile add command.

Note:
z

only theADSL 2+ cards supports the extended line profile.

By default, there are four segments for masking unstable sub-carriers.

Example
The following example shows how to add an ADSL extended line profile that masks
sub-carriers 8090 and validate the profile.

III. Modifying the ADSL extended line profile

To modify the ADSL extended line profile, use the adsl extline-profile modify
command. The procedure is the same as that for adding the ADSL extended line
profile.

IV. Deleting the ADSL extended line profile

To delete the ADSL extended line profile, use the adsl extline-profile delete command.
If an ADSL extended line profile is bound to an ADSL port, do not delete the profile.

7.7.6 Binding the ADSL Extended Line Profile

An ADSL extended line profile takes effect only after it is bound to an ADSL port. To
bind an ADSL extended line profile to an ADSL port, use the extline-config command
in the ADSL mode.

Use the activate command to activate an ADSL port.

Huawei Technologies Proprietary

7-47

Operation Manual IPM Volume

UA5000 Universal Access Unit

Chapter 7 Configuring Ports

Use the activate all command to activate all ports once.

Use the deactivate command to deactivate an ADSL port.

Activate the ADSL port before you use it to transmit services. To activate an ADSL port
is to perform training between the ATU-C and the ATU-R to check the line distance and
state. In the process of training, the system will check the ADSL operating mode,
channel mode, upstream and downstream line rates and SNR margin as specified by
an ADSL line profile. The near end also negotiates with the far end equipment to check
if the equipment can work normally under the above-mentioned conditions.
If the training succeeds, the connection is set up between the near end and far end
equipment, the service transmission is ready, and the port is activated.
If the far end equipment is online, the activation process ends once the training
succeeds.
If the far end equipment is offline, the communication connection set up during the port
activation is disconnected, and then the near end is in the detection state.
Once the far end equipment is online again, the training will be performed automatically.
After the training succeeds, the port is activated.
After the ADSL port is deactivated, the connection between the near end and far end
equipment does not exist any more. Activate the port again before you use it to transmit
services.

7.7.8 Resetting an ADSL Chipset

When the ADSL port is faulty, you can use the chipset reset command to reset the
ADSL chipset. The ADL/CSLA/ADM card has two sets of chipsets. Chipset 0
corresponds to ports 07, and chipset 1 corresponds to ports 815.

Caution:
During the chipset resetting, the services of all ports will be interrupted. Exercise
caution to reset the chipset.

7.7.9 Setting the Loopback of an ADSL Port

To set the ADSL port loopback, use the loopback command. After the test, use the
undo loopback command to cancel the loopback. By default, the port loopback is
disabled.
The loopback test can check whether a port works normally. The UA5000 does not
support the remote loopback of the ADSL port. It only supports three local loopback

modes: UTOPIA, AFE and HYBRID. The ADM card supports all local loopback modes,
the ADL and CSLA cards support the UTOPIA loopback only. If no loopback mode
supported by the card is inputted, the system will prompt failure. The loopback test can
be started only when the port is in the deactivated state.
In the UTOPIA/AFE/HYBRID loopback, cells from the ADSL card to the chipsets of the
ADSL ports are sent back to the ADSL card.

To activate an SHDSL port, use the activate command. To activate all ports, use the
activate all command. Select the profile index during the configuration. If you press
Enter directly, the system will use the current profile to activate the SHDSL port.
To deactivate an SHDSL port, use the deactivate command. During the deactivation,
the connection between the ATU-R and ATU-C does not exist any more. To enable
service transmission on the port, you must activate it again.
Only an activated SHDSL port can transmit services. Activation refers to the training
between the SHDSL CO and the SHDSL CPE. During the training process, the line
distance and line state will be checked based on profile parameters, such as the
SHDSL standards, line rate, power spectral density mode, transmission mode. The
SHDSL CO and the SHDSL CPE negotiate to confirm whether the UA5000 can work
normally in the aforementioned conditions. If training is successful, communication
links will be established between SHDSL CO and SHDSL CPE, and service
transmission is ready to begin.
For an online CPE, the activation process ends right after the negotiation between the
CO and CPE is completed successfully. When the CPE gets offline, the communication
links disconnect, and the CO is in the listening state. Once the CPE gets online, the
training process begins to activate the port.

7.9.1 Querying the VDSL Port State

To query the current state the VDSL port, use the display port state command.
The states include: activating, activated, deactivated and deactivating. The activating
state and deactivating state are transitional states.
Initially, the UA5000 activates a VDSL port using the default line profile. If the port is not
connected with VTU-R or fails in connecting with VTU-R, the port is in activating state.
If the port connects with the VTU-R and the link works normally, the port is activated.

7.9.2 Setting a VDSL Line Profile

The VDSL line profile contains a series of parameter settings. These parameters can
be used to enable negotiation between the NE and FE equipment during the port
activation, and to check if the port can work normally with these settings.
Most of these settings are the same for all VDSL ports. The VDSL line profile sets these
parameters. So, after the profile is configured successfully, the port can reference it in
the activation.

I. Adding a VDSL line profile

To add the VDSL line profile, use the vdsl line-profile add command.

Note:
By default, the UA5000 uses profile 1 to activate the VDSL ports.

You can input the profile index, or press Enter key to let the system allocate the
profile index. The profile index must be unique in the system. The profile index will
be used for referencing or deleting this profile.

Chapter 7 Configuring Ports

If the automatic training is enabled, the link will try to reach the preset bit rate while
guaranteeing the SNR margin. The training result is less than or equal to the
expected bit rate. If the system cannot satisfy the requirement of SNR when
working at the lowest bit rate, the link establishment will fail.

If the automatic training is disabled, the link will set its bit rate as the expected bit
rate. If this bit rate cannot be reached, the link establishment will fail, regardless of
the actual SNR.

3)

Set the maximum downstream bit rate.

> Max bit rate in downstream (780~25000 kbps) [10000]:

To keep the stability of the VDSL connection, set the maximum downstream bit
rate as 10000 kbit/s.
z

If the line condition is good enough, and the calculated downstream bit rate is
larger than the set one, the system will use the maximum downstream bit rate to
create the connection. But the downstream SNR margin will be increased.

If the line condition is poor, and the calculated downstream maximum bit rate is
smaller than the set one, the system will use the calculated downstream bit rate to
create the connection. The target downstream SNR margin will not be changed.

4)

Set the maximum upstream bit rate.

> Max bit rate in upstream (780~25000 kbps) [10000]:

Refer to Set the maximum downstream bit rate for the description.
5)

Set the maximum downstream interleaved depth

> Max downstream interleaved depth 0,1,2,8,16 (0~16) [1]:

Set the maximum downstream interleaved depth as 1.

The interleaved depth is highly related to both the VDSL connections stability and
the transmission delay. The interleaved depth can modify the width of the link
resistance pulse noise so as to affect the error correcting capability of the
equipment. The larger the interleaved depth is, the strong the links error
correcting capability will be, and the larger the link delay will be.
6)

Set the maximum upstream interleaved depth.

> Max upstream interleaved depth 0,1,2,8,16 (0~16) [1]:

Set the maximum downstream interleaved depth as 1.

Refer to Set the maximum downstream interleaved depth for the description.
7)

Set the downstream SNR margin.

> SNR margin in downstream (0~150 0.1dB) [60]:

Set the downstream SNR margin as 60 dB.

The SNR margin refers to the noise to ratio margin reserved when the
communication is normal. The SNR margin is used to keep the communication
normal in case that the line noise deteriorates. The larger the SNR margin, the
smaller the possibility of system data transmission error, and the safer the system.

Huawei Technologies Proprietary

7-65

Operation Manual IPM Volume

UA5000 Universal Access Unit

Chapter 7 Configuring Ports

However, the larger the SNR margin, the smaller the traffic flow, and the lower the
transmission rate.
In practical, the upstream/downstream SNR margin should be set according to the
actual conditions of the line. If the line quality is good enough, the SNR margin
should be smaller to get the higher speed. If the line quality is poor, set the SNR
margin greater to make the transmission more stable.
8)

Set the upstream SNR margin.

> SNR margin in upstream (0~150 0.1dB) [60]:

Refer to Set the downstream SNR margin for the description.

9)

Enable/disable the notch filter of amateur radio

> Notch filter of amateur radio

0-disable 1-enable (0~1) [0]:

In general, input 0 to disable the notch filter of amateur radio.

To avoid interfering the communications of other equipment, the transmitting
power of the equipment at any frequency cannot not exceed the defined threshold.
If the VDSL equipment interferes other equipment, reduce its transmitting power.
Use the notch filter of amateur radio to reduce the device performance. If this
function is enabled, the available frequency of the VDSL equipment will be
decreased. This will greatly reduce the transmission performance of the VDSL
equipment.
10) The system prompts the successful setting of the VDSL line profile.
Add profile 2 successfully

When a VDSL line profile is configured successfully, the system prompts the
message accordingly.

II. Querying a VDSL line profile

To query a VDSL line profile, use the display vdsl line-profile command.
If you query a single profile, the system will present all contents of this profile. If you
query all profiles, the system will present main contents of the profiles in a list.

7.9.3 Deleting a VDSL line profile

To delete a specified VDSL profile, use the vdsl line-profile delete command. If the
VDSL profile to be deleted has been bound with a port, release the binding first.

Note:
The default VDSL line profile (profile 1) cannot be deleted.

7.9.4 Activating/Deactivating a VDSL Port

To activate a VDSL port, use the activate command. To activate all VDSL ports of a
card, use the activate all command. If no line profile ID is specified, all VDSL ports use
the default line profile to deliver the activation commands.
To deactivate a VDSL port, use the deactivate command. To deactivate all VDSL ports
of a card, use the deactivate all command.
A VDSL port must be activated before the service transmission. Activating a VDSL port
means performing training between the VTU-C and the VTU-R to check the line
distance and state. The training process is based on such parameters as the upstream
and downstream line bit rates and SNR margin specified in a VDSL line profile. At the
same time, the negotiation is performed between the VTU-C and VTU-R to check if the
equipment can work under the above-mentioned conditions normally. If the training
succeeds, the communication connection is established between the VTU-C and
VTU-R, the service transmission is ready, and the port is activated. If the VTU-R is
Huawei Technologies Proprietary

online, the activation process ends once the training succeeds. If the VTU-R is offline,
the established communication connection is released, and the VTU-C is in listening
state. Once the VTU-R is online again, the training starts. If the training succeeds, the
port is activated.
After a VDSL port is deactivated, the communication connection between the VTU-C
and the VTU-R during the activation is released. To start service transmission, you
need to activate this port again.

7.9.5 Setting a VDSL Alarm Profile

The VDSL alarm profile helps you to configure a series of alarm thresholds for
monitoring and measuring the performance of an activated VDSL line. If the
performance statistics reach the alarm threshold, the system will inform the equipment
and send the alarm information to the log host and NMS. When you set the parameters
in the alarm profile as 0, no threshold alarm will be generated.
In practice, as most of the ports share the same settings, the UA5000 system provides
the VDSL alarm profile. After the profile is set successfully, use the alarm-config
command to bind the profile with VDSL ports.

I. Adding a VDSL alarm profile

To add a VDSL alarm profile, use the vdsl alarm-profile add command.

III. Deleting a VDSL alarm profile

To delete a VDSL alarm profile, use the vdsl alarm-profile delete command.

Note:
The default alarm profile (profile 1) cannot be deleted.

7.9.6 Binding the VDSL Alarm Profile

After adding a VDSL alarm profile, you need to bind it with a VDSL port. After that, the
system can generate alarms if the performance statistics within 15 minutes exceeds the
specific value. By default, profile 1 is bound with the port.
To bind the alarm profile with a VDSL port, use the alarm-config command. To bind the
alarm profile with all VDSL ports of a card, use the alarm-config all command.
If a port is bound with two or more alarm profiles, the last one takes effect.

7.9.7 Setting the VDSL Port Mode

The VDLA card uses VLAN to identify and differentiate users. You can use the port
mode command to set the working mode (untagged or tagged) of a VDSL port.
When working in the tagged mode, the port can identify the VLAN tag of the data frame
and compare this VLAN with the default VLAN of the port. .
When working in untagged mode, the port will not identify the VLAN tag of the data
frame and perform the corresponding processing no matter whether their VLAN tags
are the same or not.
When the VLAN port is directly connected with a terminal or HUB, both modes are
available. However, the untagged mode is suggested. When the VLAN port is
connected with a LAN Switch with VLAN setting, only the tagged mode is available.
By default, a VDSL port is in the untagged mode.
When a VDSL port is receiving data:
z

No matter what the port mode is, if the data packet itself does not contain the
VLAN, this data packet will be added with the default VLAN.

If the data packet itself contains the VLAN, it will not be added with the default
VLAN.

Huawei Technologies Proprietary

Operation Manual IPM Volume

UA5000 Universal Access Unit

Chapter 7 Configuring Ports

When a VDSL port is transmitting data:

z

When the port mode is tagged, if the default VLAN of the port is equal to the VLAN
the transmitted data packet contains, the latter will be removed. If they are not
equal, the data packet will be transmitted together with this VLAN, thus realizing
the VLAN transparent transmission.

When the port mode is untagged, the VLAN contained in the data packet itself will
be removed unconditionally.

7.9.8 Setting the Default VLAN of a VDSL Port

To query the default VLAN ID of a port, use the display board command.
To support the terminal that does not support the VLAN, configure a default VLAN for
the VDSL port. When the port receives an untagged packet, the system will use the
default VLAN ID to add the tagged head to the untagged packet.
By default, the system sets VLAN 1 for VDSL port 0, and VLAN 2 for VDSL port 1.
Likewise, VLAN 16 is set for VDSL port 15. The default VLAN ID of the port must be
different from VLAN ID or default VLAN ID of the PVC of other ports. However, the
default VLAN ID of the PVCs in one port can be the same.

7.9.9 Setting the VDSL Port Mirroring

The VDLA card provides the port-based mirroring function. It can copy the packets of
one or more specified ports (mirrored port) to monitor port (mirroring port) for packet
analysis and monitoring. With this function, you can monitor all the mirrored ports by
analyzing the packets of mirroring port.
The related commands are as follows.
z

To set the VDSL port mirror, use the mirror command.

To cancel the port mirror, use the undo mirror command.

The mirrored port list is expressed in hexadecimal numbers. For example, there are
three mirrored ports 1, 3 and 5, the mirrored port list is 0x15. The binary digit 1 indicates
that this port is a mirrored port.
Example
In the receiving direction, mirror port 1 to port 0. In the sending direction, mirror ports 1,
3 and 5 to port 0.
huawei(config-if-vdsl-0/12)#mirror
{ portId<U><0,15> }:0
{ in-portList<H><0x...><0x0,0xffff> }::0x2
{ out-portList<H><0x...><0x0,0xffff> }:0x28

available only after the port is activated.

7.9.13 Setting the Loopback

In the port loopback, the Ethernet frames sent from the port will return. You can judge
whether the link is normal by comparing the transmitted Ethernet frame with the
received one.
The UA5000 supports the local loopback and remote loopback. The local loopback
tests the switching chip and local VDSL link, no VDSL link is needed. The remote
loopback tests the whole link of the remote modem. The VDSL link is needed. The
remote loopback can be conducted only when the VDSL link is activated.
Use the loopback command to set the local loopback and remote loopback for the
VDSL port. After the loopback, the port cannot transmit data packets correctly. If this
port is not isolated, the broadcast storm may occur. So, cancel the loopback
immediately by the undo loopback after it completes. By default, the port loopback is
disabled.
The loopback command only sets the port into the loopback state. The CPU will not
send the test frame, you have to use auxiliary equipment to send the test frame.
The following lists the procedures of the port loopback test.
1)

Select a port to be tested, and connect the auxiliary test instrument.

2)

Set a VLAN that contains the testing port and tested VDSL port to avoid affecting
normal services.

3)

Use the loopback command to set the VDSL port into the loopback state. For the
VDSL remote loopback, create the VDSL link.

4)

Query the port setting and reset the port statistical information. For the VDSL
remote loopback, set the VDSL port into the full duplex mode, non-negotiate rate.

5)

Use the auxiliary test instrument to transmit a certain number of broadcast packets,
with the transmitting rate below 10 Mbit/s.

6)

Stop transmitting the packets and query the numbers of packets the port received
and transmitted. If the numbers of packets at all nodes are the same, the link
works normally.

7)

Use the undo loopback command to disable the loopback.

Note:
z

The network cable connected with a port must be identical with the MDI setting of
the port.

To set the MDI of a port to auto, set either the port rate or the duplex mode as auto.

7.10.4 Configuring the Default VLAN

You can configure the default VLAN for a port on the EAU card, so that an untagged
packet can be tagged with the ID of the default VLAN.
For port n, the default VLAN ID is n+1. For example, the default VLAN ID of port 0 is 1.
z

To query the default VLAN ID of a port, use the display port state command.

To configure the default VLAN of a port, use the native-vlan command.

Example
To set the default VLAN ID of port 0 as 1, do as follows:
huawei(config)#vlan 1 smart
huawei(config)#port vlan 0/2 0
huawei(config)#interface eau 0/10
huawei(config-if-eau-0/10)#native-vlan 0 vlan 1

Note:
z

Do not configure different ports with the same default VLAN.

Do not use the default VLAN used by the other ports for setting up a PVC.

Do not configure a default VLAN for a sub-port of an aggregation group.

7.10.5 Configuring the Flow Control

The Ethernet ports of the EAU card support flow control. You can enable this function to
avoid network congestion and packet loss in case of heavy traffic. By default, the
function is disabled.
z

To enable flow control, use the flow-control command.

To disable flow control, use the undo flow-control command.

Example
To enable the flow control for port 0, do as follows:
Huawei (config-if-eau-0/10) #flow-control 0

7.10.6 Activating/Deactivating a Port

z

To activate a port of the EAU card, use the undo shutdown command.

To deactivate a port of the EAU card, use the shutdown command.

By default, the ports are in activated state.

7.10.7 Configuring the Port Mirroring

I. Setting the port mirroring
The EAU card supports the port-based mirroring function. You can duplicate the
packets from one or multiple source ports to a specified destination port for analysis
and monitoring.
To configure the port mirroring and specify the mirror direction, use the mirror port
command.

Note:
z

One EAU card supports one group of port mirror.

Source ports cannot include a destination port.

The destination port cannot be an aggregation port.

The settings of port mirror are cleared after card reset.

huawei(config-if-eau-0/10)#mirror port
{ src-port-list<S><1,255> }:1,2,4
{ dst-portid<U><0,7> }:3
{ mirror-direction<E><ingress,egress,all> }:egress
Set port mirror successfully

II. Querying the port mirroring information

To query the setting of port mirroring, use the display mirror command.

III. Deleting the port mirroring

To delete the port mirroring, use the undo mirror port command.
Example
To delete the port mirroring on the EAU card, do as follows:
huawei(config-if-eau-0/10)#undo mirror port

7.10.8 Configuring the Port Aggregation

I. Aggregating ports
To aggregate ports, use the link-aggregation command. Port aggregation is intended
to bind multiple ports together so that the incoming and outgoing loads can be
distributed among member ports. Meanwhile, to boost the security of a link, ports within
an aggregation group can serve as backup for each other.

Note:
z

The EAU card supports up to 4 aggregation groups, and each of the groups
contains 28 ports.

In an aggregation group, the port with the smallest number is the master port. The
operations for the aggregation group are performed through the master port.

The EAU card supports two aggregation modes: ingress and ingress-egress.
z

In the ingress mode, packets are distributed among member ports according to
the source MAC address.

In the ingress-egress mode, packets are distributed among member ports

according to both source and destination MAC addresses.

Example
To aggregate ports 3, 4, 5 and 6 in the ingress mode, do as follows:
huawei(config-if-eau-0/10)#link-aggregation 3,4,5,6 ingress
Add aggregation port successfully

Note:
To aggregate multiple ports, make sure that:
z

None of the ports is a destination port of a port mirror or an aggregation port.

All the ports work in the full duplex mode.

The port rate must be the same and cannot be auto negotiated.

II. Querying the aggregation information

To query the port aggregation settings, use the display link-aggregation command.
Example
To query the port aggregation settings of the EAU card, do as follows:
huawei(config-if-eau-0/10)#display link-aggregation

III. Deleting the port aggregation

To delete the port aggregation of the EAU card, use the undo link-aggregation
command.

Note:
z

Before you delete a port aggregation, delete all PVCs of the aggregated ports.

When an aggregated port is deleted, the default VLANs of its sub-ports are deleted.

7.10.9 Querying the Port Information

I. Querying the port state
To query the port state, use the display port state command. The port state includes
the port rate, port mode, default VLAN, and MDI type.
Example
To query the port state of port 1, do as follows:
huawei(config-if-eau-0/10)#display port state 1
The port is active
Port native vlan ID is 2
Ethernet port is in auto-negotiation mode
Ethernet port is offline
Mdi function of the Ethernet port is auto

II. Querying the current traffic of a port

To query the current traffic of a port, use the display port traffic command.

III. Querying/Clearing the performance statistics of an Ethernet port
