Small Groups: Students will then group their cutout shapes based on shared characteristics
and share in small groups why they grouped them that way. (Checking for understanding)
(Interaction)
Assessment:
To check for understanding I will read aloud a definition and the students (together) will tell
me which shape I am describing. Then I will call on a student to come draw it on the board. I
will repeat this until I get through every shape we talked about today.
Ex: A quadrilateral with four equal parallel sides and with four right angles. Answer: Square
A quiz will be given part way through the unit and a test at the end of the unit to assess the
students.
Reflection:
In planning this lesson I thought about different ways to engage students in the lesson. I
wanted as many hands on activities and discussions as I could get so that each student could
participate and get involved especially ELL students. I had a hard time at first thinking of ideas
for activities but once I thought about what I did in school that got my attention and helped me
learn it was a lot easier. I think overall my lesson is well done and very engaging. I learned
that I must include many different ways to present the material so that every student can
understand. I think that the chart that I made is also very good and was pretty easy to make.
