We believe that Allah is ONE God our Lord and
the Lord of everything. The Creator of everything.
Allah is the Living, self-Subsisting, Eternal, the first
without beginning and the Last without end. He hears
everything and sees everything. He is Most Gracious,
Most Merciful. All-dominating. He has the Most
beautiful Names and the Noblest Attributes. We are not
permitted to worship or submit to any other than Him.
Who ever directs his prayer, bows or prostrates, offers
sacrifice to any other than Allah, he is an infidel , and

2- FAITH IN ANGELS@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@òØöý¾bi@æbºPa@M<
Allah has created angels to worship Him, To carry
out His commands and to be His messengers to His
human Prophets. One of the angel is Gabriel who used
to bring down Revelation. Another angel is Michael
who is in charge of rain-falling. A third one is the Angel
of Death. Angels are but servants honored by Allah.
Their number is uncountable.

Allah has sent down to His Messengers Books in
order to proclaim them to mankind. These Books
contain The words of Allah. Among them are The

some Prophets to guide people to the straight path. From
among those Prophets He selected Some Messengers.
He sent laws to the Messengers and commanded them
to proclaim and to clarify them to their people.
Embracing Islam means to believe in all Prophets.
5- FAITH IN THE LAST DAY ‹‚ea@âìîÛbi@æbºPa@M@L

and all other creatures will die. Then he (The angel) will
sound it again, then all the dead since Adam will stand

Then, Allah will gather all people to account them
for what they did. Those who believed in Allah,
accepted the Messengers as truthful and did good deeds
(commanded by Allah) Allah will put them in Paradise.
In Paradise, they will enjoy eternal bliss. But those who
rejected the Messengers and disobeyed Allah’s
commands, will be put in Hell.
6- FAITH IN AL
AL--QADA & AL-
AL-QADAR Š‡ÔÛaë@õb›ÔÛbi@æbºPa@MV
Al-Qadar is decreeing things by Allah before their
occurrence, and recording them in the Allawh Ul-
Mahfooth (Preserved Tablet). Allah foreordained
everything fifty thousand years before He created the
heavens and the earth. Belief in Al-Qadar is the firm
attestation to the fact that all general and particular
decrees have been prerecorded, and that every event has
its course by the decree of Allah. He has created
everything, and has ordained for it its proper measure.
The belief in Divine Predestination includes belief
in four things:
1. Allah knows everything. He knows what has
happened and what will happen.
2. Allah has recorded all that has happened and all what
will happen.
3. Whatever Allah wills to happen happens, and
whatever He wills not to happen does not happen.

The Meaning of (Laa Ilaha Illa Allah) the Two

Testimonies of Faith:-
It is that a person should confess orally and heartily
that there is no true god worthy of being worshipped
except Allah, the Almighty; and that all other deities are
false. The testimony includes a negation and an
affirmation as well. There is no true god worthy of being
worshipped (Laa Ilaha), negates "the truth of" all the other
deities worshipped besides Allah. Except Allah (Illa
Allah) affirms the worship of Allah, Alone, without setting
any partners with Him; either in worship or in His
Dominion.

The Importance of the Testimony of Faith:-

Abdullahi Ibn Amr ibn Al-Aas narrated that the

through them until it reaches Allah the Exalted '. And
"Subhanallah Wa Bihamdihi" which means: Glorified and

Obligatory Bathing (total ablution):- (Ghusl):-

2- Ejaculation of semen.
3- When the head of the penis disappears inside the

What the Junub (i.e. those who are in a state after
sexual discharge) are prohibited from:-
1- Prayer.
2- Tawaf , circuiting the Ka'ba.
3- Touching the Book of Allah (Qur'an).
4- Sitting in the Mosque ; but if one performed ablution
(Wudu), then he can sit in it.

The One on a Journey Prayer:-

Traveling : it is the departure from one's residential place.
From among the merits of Islam is the permissibility of
shortening and joining of the prayers when one is
traveling, because usually there is hardship in it (i.e.
traveling); And Islam is the religion of mercy and
easiness.

The Rule of (Al-Qasr) the Shortening of Prayer:-

The shortening (of prayer) while on a journey is an
authenticated sunnah, either in the state of security or of
fear.
* Al- Qasr (the shortening of prayer): it is to shorten the
(four rakaats) fourfold prayer
into two rakaats " They are:- Zuhr (Noon) Prayer, Asr
(Late-Afternoon) Prayer and Isha' (Evening) Prayer. And
this (shortening) is not permissible except, only, on-
journey. Yet Maghrib (Sunset) and Fajr (Dawn) Prayers
are never shortened.

M. Al-Toom
The New Muslim Course 40

But joining (Prayers) is permissible when one is

residing or on-journey on certain conditions.
* If a Muslim traveled on foot or riding, on land , in the
sea or by air; it is sunnah- for him- to shorten the four
Rakaats Prayer into a two Rakaats Prayer. And he can join
the two Prayers in the prescribed time for anyone of them
if he needed that; until he ends his journey.
The evidence of the above is derived from the hadith
narrated by Aisha (R.A.A) that the Messenger of Allah
said:
I * c*3 b"# <: 7> 3 a( I C } : D ( / , ` , a D: a
/ M;# { d_ I 7e ( ! 3 5V
{ Prayer was only two Rakaats when it was first imposed,
then the traveler's prayer was confirmed and that of the
residing one was completed} agreed upon.
The starting point of Al-Qasr (shortening of Prayer) : The
traveler starts shortening and joining (his Prayers) when he
reaches the outskirts of his residential town ; and there is
no limited traveling distance, and that's just referred to as
conventional. So whenever someone travels while he is
not planning for absolute residence or habitation, then he
is a traveler and the rulings of traveling are applicable to
him until he returns to his place.
Shortening (Prayers) while on-journey is sunnah. And it
(i.e. Prayer) is shortened in everything called on-journey
(travel). Yet if one completes his prayer, then its quite
correct due to the Hadeeth :
M. Al-Toom

{It’s a charity which Allah Has bestowed upon you, so

If one on a journey is lead in prayer by a resident, then the
later should complete his Prayer. But if the resident is lead
by (a traveler) one on a journey, then it is Sunnah for the
traveler to shorten his Prayer; yet, the resident should
complete his Prayer.
And if the one on a journey lead (in Prayer) some
residents in their own native town, he can pray only two
Rakaats; but then he should say to them: " Complete your
Prayer, for we are on a journey (people)."
It is prescribed as Sunnah to leave out the Rawatib ( the
twelve authenticated Sunnah Rakaats prayed before and
after Fard ' Obligatory Prayers' ); except Tahajjud (late-
night prayers) and Al-Witr ( Last odd Rakaats) and the
(two Rakaats )before Dawn Prayer.

The Description of Al-Masbouq's Prayer (the one who

arrive late for the congregational prayer):-
1- Whoever catches the last rak'ah ( of Duhr, 'Noon
Prayer, Asr ' Late-Afternoon Prayer' or Isha 'Evening
Prayer' with the Imam, should perform the three missing
Rakaats (units of prayer after the Imam finishes the
prayer(saying: As-Salamu Alaikum Wa rahmatullah). So,
first he should perform one Rak'ah reciting Al-Fatihah(the
opening of the Qur'an) and some other Qur'anic verses.
Then he sits for (reading) the first Tashahhud. Then he
M. Al-Toom
The New Muslim Course 42

performs two Rakaats reciting Al-Fatihah only; except

Duhr Prayer where he may recite Al-Fatihah and any other
Surah . Then he sits for the Last Tashahhud and says As-
Salamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah. Or he can confine his
reciting to Al-Fatihah only. Any parts of the Prayer one
catches with the Imam shall be regarded as the first (part)
of his Prayer.
2- Whoever catches one Rak'ah of Maghrib (Sunset)
Prayer with the Imam, is obliged to get one Rak'ah after
the Imam says " As-Salamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah". In
it he should recite Al-Fatihah and any other Surah, and sit
for the first Tashahhud. Then he should stand to perform
one Rak'ah with Al-Fatihah only. Then he reads the last
Tashahhud and says As-Salamu Alaikum as mentioned
before.
3- Whoever catches one Rak'ah with the Imam, of Al-Fajr
(Dawn) Prayer or of Al-Jumu'a
Friday Prayer; he is to stand after the Salam of the Imam
to perform one Rak'ah in which he recites Al-Fatihah and
another Surah. Then he sits for the Tashahhud and says:
"As-Salamu Alaikum", as mentioned before.
4- If someone enters (into the mosque) while the Imam is
sitting for the last Tashahhud; it is prescribed as Sunnah to
enter (into the Prayer) with him and then completes his
Prayer after the Imam says the Tasleem.

M. Al-Toom

How to Join (on-Journey) Prayers:-
It is prescribed as Sunnah for someone who is on a
journey to combine (i.e. to join) two prayers together and
perform them respectively at the time specified for anyone
of them, or the time between them. If he has dismounted
he does what may seem easier for him; yet if he is riding,
then it is (of) Sunnah for him to join between Maghrib and
Isha prayers if the sun has set before he leaves. And this is
known as the (advance joining). But if he has left before
the sun sets, he delays the Maghrib Prayer until the time
for Isha Prayer when he joins them in a (delay joining).
If someone embarks or rides after midday, he joins the Asr
Prayer, in advance, to the Duhr Prayer and if he rides
before noon (i.e. midday), he delays Duhr Prayer to Asr
Prayer time when he performs them together in a (delay
joining).

The evidences:-
1- Ibn Abbas narrated that :{ The Messenger of
Allah used to join the Duhr Prayer to the Asr
Prayer when he was riding on- journey; and he also
used to join between Maghrib and Isha Prayers.}
Related by: Al-Bukhari.
2- Anas Ibn Malik said:-{ The Messenger of Allah
used to delay the Duhr Prayer to the time of Asr
Prayer if he started riding on a journey before noon;
but if the time was already after midday (noon)
before he started riding for a journey, he used to pray
them before he leaves.} Agreed upon.

M. Al-Toom
The New Muslim Course 44

The Rule of Joining Prayers (while) in Residence:-

Joining between Duhr and Asr or between Maghrib and
Isha Prayers is permissible for someone who is in
residency on the following conditions: If he is sick and
finds great difficulty in leaving that (joining); or in a rainy
night, or a cold night or mud, or severe cold wind; or a
woman in a menstruation period, or someone suffering
from urine incontinence or anyone who fears an
impending danger, of being harmed, or befalling his
family or his money, and the like.

The Rules of Foodstuffs :-

Food is the main source of nutrition for the human body,
and its effect is reflected on his morals and conduct. So the
good kinds of food will have a good effect on the human
being and the bad kinds of food will have a bad effect on
him. So, that's why Allah the Almighty ordered His slaves
(i.e. all mankind) to eat from the good (food)and
prohibited them from eating from the bad (food) according
to the following evidences which we shall mention as
examples, not to limit them.
1- The Almighty says:-
. wx Qv & :I A .hijkl h. iB mn:o@ Fp3 q4p rr< st q$ 6uQ iQ b:g f a b

3- O (you) Messengers! Eat of the Tayyibat [all kinds of
Halal foods which Allah has made lawful (meat of
slaughtered eatable animals, milk products, fats,
vegetables, fruits, etc] and do righteous deeds… Q.23: 51.

The Origin of Food Stuffs:-

The origin of all kinds of food is the lawfulness (i.e.
Halal) according to His Saying, Exalted be His Name:-
. „: Qv & I A ƒh p4i9 mn{:o@ Fp3 i { r k iMki] Xpyz i s‚ b:g f a
He it is Who created for you all that is on earth. Q.2: 29.

And there are other Qur'anic verses, and authentic Hadeeth

which confirm that the origin in all kinds of food is that
they are (halal) lawful; except what has been regarded as
an exception to the rule. Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taimia once
said, "The origin in them [food(s)] is that they are (halal)
lawful for a Muslim who has done righteous good deeds,
because Allah the Almighty has made the good and lawful
kinds of food (halal) lawful for him who uses them in

Those who believe and righteous good deeds, there is no

So it is not permissible to seek the help of the lawful
(food) for disobedience; like giving meat and bread to a
person who will drink wine over them, seeking their help
(i.e. of the food and wine) to do Al-Fawahish (illegal
sexual intercourse). And whoever eats the good and lawful

Following the Steps of the Messenger :-
The Meaning of The Following: It is to follow the
guidance of the Messenger closely and his traditions
and to try and copy his examples.

M. Al-Toom
The New Muslim Course 48

Allah has chosen Muhammad for His Prophet hood

and His Message; and He has sent down (revealed) to him
the book and the wisdom. And He ordered him to follow
what has been revealed to him, and to convey what has
been sent down to him. So whoever believes in him
believes in Allah and whoever obeys him obeys Allah, and
whoever accepts from him is accepting from Allah. So,
because of this Allah ordered His slaves to obey him (i.e.
Muhammad) and obliged them to obey his order and
believe in his information. And He warned them not to
dissent or disobey him. And He (Allah, the Almighty)
made his (i.e. Muhammad's) obedience obligatory on
everyone who believes in Allah. He (Allah) did not leave
the choice (i.e. option in the decision), in any matter, for
the believers after Allah and His Messenger have decreed
it. Many Qur'anic verses have flooded in manifesting the
importance of this matter and emphasizing its obligation.
From among the verses is His saying-Exalted be Him-

The Conditions for Following (the steps of the

Messenger ):

M. Al-Toom
The New Muslim Course 50

The following of the Messenger is compulsory and an

individual duty for everyone of the Islamic Ummah
(Nation); in times of hardships or of leniency , in happy
times or in distress. And the Muslim will not become a
true one until he follow the Messenger in his sayings
and his deeds according to one's knowledge and ability.
1- To take a good example in the (guidance of the)
Prophet to follow.
2- To take the Sunnah (the traditions of the Prophet)
as a judge and accept its judgment .
3- To accept, with full submission, the judgment of
the Messenger of Allah and his teachings.
4- To stop at (i.e. to be aware of) the limits of the
Islamic laws ( jurisprudence ).

Fraternity (Brotherhood) in Islamic Faith:-

Brotherhood in religion is the highest, largest and
greatest level of brotherhood. And it is a social bond
unlike any other bonds; not even the one between a father
and his son, a person and his own brother. And the bond
between a man and his wife, without conformity in Islam,
is considered unsubstantial if compared with a religious
bond.
So, the Holy Qur'an mentioned the brotherhood between
the believers as (being) a natural matter from among the
requirements of Faith. And there is no direct order in the
Holy Qur'an of brotherhood between the believers;

M. Al-Toom
51 The New Muslim Course
because the order implies that Faith alone is not enough to
create the bond of brotherhood between them and that is
not true.
Allah, the Almighty says:-
. ’ Qv & : ™_ .Ĩi {]m k1 $p €rV 4q‘ b:g f , a
The believers are nothing else than brothers (in Islamic
Religion). Q. 49: 10.
The Arabic word ( 4q‘ ) Innama' is a limiting article, so the
meaning will be: The believer shall not be but a brother to
another believer. So if the brotherhood became weak, this
(weakness) will be from the weakness of Faith; and its
strength will be from the strength of Faith as well.
And he said:-
.[ 5V ] 5V ] : a (
[ The Muslim is (just like) a brother to another Muslim.]
But his saying:-
[.‘ ] , ‘ <(]: / (
[ And be nothing else, O slaves of Allah! But brothers (to
each other).]
The meaning of the above hadeeth can be as such: O
slaves of Allah! Adhere to your brotherhood by purifying
yourselves (i.e. from hatred), by purifying your hearts and
by strengthening your Faith.
Verily, from among the requirements for that (mentioned
above) is: to love for your brother what you love for
yourself; and to hate (for him) what you hate for yourself.

M. Al-Toom
The New Muslim Course 52

And to do or give him all the rights imposed on you by

Islam.
The true brotherhood in Faith - when a family, a society or
a nation is saturated (i.e. satisfied) with it - will cause a
social change with a deep effect, great danger and
extended range in its effects and its results. Allah the
Almighty said:-
{ s#*{$r< |‹m { r {*ki œ, k i4{ m‘ (s r<|‹ ( rq ;k f . ( h p4i9 œ, mH i8m s4pCi#{ ( :g f a

And hold fast, all of you together, to the rope of Allah
(i.e. this Qur'an), and be not divided among yourselves,
and remember Allah's Favour on you, for you were
enemies one to another but He joined your hearts together,
so that, by His Grace, you became brethren (in Islamic
Faith), and you were on the brink of a pit of fire, and He
saved you from it. Thus Allah makes His Ayat (proofs,
evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) clear to
you, that you may be guided. Q. 3: 103.
The Qur'an gave evidence that enmity was originally
existing in the Arabian society, an evil spirit ruling them.
So, when the Qur'an was revealed; and believed in Allah
and His Messenger and the Last Day, whomsoever Allah
wanted him to believe; the enemies became beloved ones,
and those fighting each other turned into brethren, and the
misers and the greedy turned into people who give (the

M. Al-Toom

others) preference over themselves even though they were
in need of that (i.e. which they had given).

Good Manners in Islam: As-Salam (Islamic Greeting):-

As-Salam is the greeting which Allah has legislated (i.e.
made lawful) for His Believing Slaves since Adam and
until the Day of Judgment . Allah The Almighty said:

There are many cases during which the peace 'greeting'
(saying: As-Salamu Alaikum) is hated. From among them
is that: If the one who is greeted is occupied by answering
the call of nature, or indulged in having sexual intercourse
or any privacy of the like with his wife. And one should
not greet anyone who is fast asleep, or who is in the
bathroom, the lavatory or any other place where there is

impurity. And the rule for a woman to another woman (in
greeting), is just the same as that of a man to another (i.e.
holds the same rules as a man).
Asking Permission (to enter houses):-
Islam has always taken great care of all the affairs of the
human being; and of all his matters, the small ones as well
as the great ones. And its concern increases for making
various types of correlations between Muslims; and to
create the causes for being merciful to each other and for
getting along with each other harmoniously, until a society
cooperating to do pious good deeds is constituted . Allah
the Almighty said:-
s4Ÿ*i5sfi( s5m‘c#{5if `q#iB { r pf ss i {k• hf ss rs]{Kif . s$i ) i&Qpyz 6uQ Q :g f , a

O you who believe! Enter not houses other than your
own, until you have asked permission and greeted those in
them; that is better for you, in order that you may
remember. Q. 24: 27.
The meaning is: do not enter other people's houses until
you have asked permission and it has been given to you;
hence greet those therein and enter. These verses showed
clearly the rules and the religious manners required of a
Muslim when entering someone else's private place, and
not a common place. These rules and manners can be
summarized as follows:-
1- It is strictly forbidden for anyone to enter someone
else's house without his permission.

M. Al-Toom
The New Muslim Course 56

2- A person should ask permission three consecutive

times; so, if he is given permission, he enters;
otherwise, he ought to get back. He said:-
./ M;# {.?9: 3 . ( • 1‹ 123 !« % 1 yŠ#D. } : / A
{ Asking permission is for three (times); so if permission
has been given you enter. Otherwise you go back.
3-He should not look at someone else's house until
permission has been given to him; and he is not to stand
facing the door, but he should stand either to the right or to
the left of the door; according to the Hadeeth related in the
Two Authentic Collections of Hadeeth (by Al-Bukhari and
Muslim) : { Surely, asking permission is only made for the
( lowering of the) sight.}
4- It is hateful of someone when he asks permission (to
enter a house) and being asked, "Who is it?" to say, "It's
me!" Because the word: 'me' does not show exactly who
said it. Rather, he should say, " So and so! " Mentioning
his name, or even his surname if he is well known with it.
5-Asking permission when entering the place of a mother,
a sister or anyone with whom marriage is forbidden ( by
Islamic Laws); so that he may not see her naked, or in a
condition that she does not want anyone to see her in it.
So, when the children reaches the stage of puberty, they
will be obliged to ask permission in any case.

And if someone is praying and hears another praising

sneezing is repeated continuously from a person, then it is
prescribed as Sunnah to respond to him every time until

except that the pronoun (you) is used for
the plural. The sneezer himself answers by saying, "

Home of Peace. Paradise is the great recompense and the
abundant reward which Allah Has prepared for His Aulia'

is the Complete Delight which is not spoiled by any
decrease; and its Serenity will not be disturbed. And what
Allah the Almighty has revealed to us about it, and what
He has told His Messenger about it is very wonderful
and bewildering to the mind. Because it is beyond the
power of the mind to imagine or understand the greatness
of that Delight. Allah the Almighty said in the Holy
