3. Site Planning & Preparation
As per the approved drawing and specifications involved the preparation and
site planning should be matching the methodology of works according to
prepare the suitable circumstance to work as per schedule and planning
Any necessary action could take place in the planning according to changing
in site condition.
Ensure all permission and consents are obtained.
Survey the work area for any pre existing safety hazards and render harmless
if possible.
Ensure all materials, tools and resources are available.
Ensure latest approved drawing s issued to the site team.
Ensure work will be carried out in accordance with the program.

4.

Method Statement for Erection

4.1 General Preparation

Erection process shall conform to the requirement of project specification
and/ or relevant standard specifications.
Precast concrete elements will be transported to site after the approval by
QA/QC Dept.
On site survey shall be carried out for all site dimensions, axes locations and
levels relative to site benchmark.
Safety requirements shall be arranged to suit site conditions, and to meet site
requirements.
Main gridline and bench mark will be marked by surveyor before starting the
erection.

Exeed Precast L.L.C

Site access road for the movement and parking of mobile cranes and trailers
will be arranged by the site construction team and safety Engineer.
4.2 Installation of Beam
Scaffolding shall be provided as per approved layout and calculations below
the beam.
Beam shall be provided with 4 anchors at the top for lifting and handling
purposes.
Beam shall be transported on flat bed trailers of adequate capacity secured to
the bead of the trailer with latching chains.
Beam shall be transported on flat bed trailers using crane of adequate
capacity, and to be stored in proper location. It is preferable to erect the
beam directly from the trailer.
Beam shall be lifted by two legged chain with the anchors cast in the beam
with the clutches engaged to the anchors. Two guide ropes shall be tied to
guide the beam.
Beam shall be lifted and moved to the required location and placed over
adequate and leveled scaffolding.
Beam shall be rested in the scaffolding and properly aligned prior to
receiving the Hollow core Slab.
The beam shall receive the hollow core slab with out resulting in overturning of the beam as per attached design check for the over turning of the
beam during erection.
The beam shall be connected to the column at the topping stage after
installation of Hollow core slabs.
Erection of columns should be to the tolerances specified in the PCI Manual
of tolerance for precast and prestressed concrete construction.

Exeed Precast L.L.C

4.3 Hollow Core Slabs
4.3.1 Transportation of Hollow Core Slabs
Hollow core slabs should be transported on flat bed trailers secured to the
trailer with the help of latching chains (and belts if required). Loads may be
governed by trailer capacity and/ or slab geometry.
Delivery of Hollow core slabs should be planned according to the general
erection sequence to minimize unnecessary site storage and handling.
Hollow core slabs should be loaded and delivered with proper supports,
cushioning and tie-downs (chains) to prevent in-transit damage. Adequate
packing or protection to the edges of hollow core slabs should also be
provided to minimize risk of damages during transit.
Tie-downs (chains) and minimum of 50 mm wide dunnage (for example
wood) to be located within 300 mm from the ends of hollow core slabs and
aligned vertically. Moving the load without proper tie down maybe cause
damage to the hollow core slab. Special procedures shall be done for
placement of dunnage on non- standard slabs
Visual inspection will be done by the Q.C Engineer for the hollow core slab
prior to off- loading for any damage and report immediately to the factory
/production manager.
4.3.2 Hoisting of Hollow core Slabs
Hollow Core slab shall be hoisted by using rigging clamps. When lifting
with clamps, lifting beam or spreader beam must be used to ensure only
vertical lifting in clamps. The rigging clamps are specially designed for
hoisting the hollow core slab and it should be provided with safety sling or
chain of adequate capacity to safety support the load that is or is likely to be
imposed.

Exeed Precast L.L.C

For hollow core slabs with long cutting, belts of adequate capacity (prior
inspection by engineer and safety officer is required) properly tightened
around the slabs can be used for lifting process.
4.3.3 Site Storage of Hollow Core Slabs
If required, Site storage of hollow core slabs shall conform to the following
requirements:
a.

Storage area to be firm, level and true. Bottom slam to be blocked a

minimum of 10 cm. above grade, full length and width as to prevent
settlement of hollow core slabs stack.

b.

Always handle hollow core slabs in the flat horizontal position. Never
turn Slab on edge or end unless approved by design engineer.
4.3.4 Installation of Hollow core Slabs

Hollow core slabs are installed on proper location on the precast beam,
which is loaded on the Formwork designed for its purpose.
Hollow core slabs are to be located as per design drawings in conjunction
with architectural and structural drawing s for connection details of other
building components and/ or structural system interacting with hollow core
slabs.
Minimum bearing distance should not be less than 100 mm as recommended
by designer and mentioned on the drawing.
All slabs with differential camber should not be leveled, adjusted, etc. to
within allowable tolerances prior to grouting.
Sequence of erection of hollow core slabs should be reviewed designer prior
to starting the work.

Exeed Precast L.L.C

Erection of hollow core slabs should be to the tolerances specified in the PCI
Manual for the design of Hollow core slabs- Second Edition
Continuous support is to be provided under bearing ends of all hollow core
slabs.
The erection engineer shall be required to reduce differential camber
between adjacent slabs to no greater than 1: 1000 cambers to span ratio or as
specified in the design drawings/ project specifications. The finished result
will only be as good as the planning and care taken.
Level slabs by jacking the low slab from blow (jack at slab joint only.)
4.3.5 Preparation and Casting for structural topping on the Hollow core
Slabs
After the installation for hollow core slabs all loose debris from joints will be
removed.
Placement of topping reinforcement shall commence after installation of
Hollow core slabs.
MEP works shall be done prior to concreting activity.
WIR will be raised for the slabs reinforcement, shuttering and pouring for
approval from consultant before starting concreting activity.
Approved concrete mix shall be used for topping.
4.3.6 Field Cut Openings of Hollow Core Slabs.
Procedure for cutting openings of any sizes shall be carried out under proper
supervision.

Exeed Precast L.L.C

4.3.7 Field Repair and Modification of Hollow Core slabs
Repair procedures are to be prepared by Q.C/ Design Engineer prior to
implementation at site. Method statement for repair of precast concrete elements
(Beams, slabs, etc) shall be prepared and submitted to the consultant after
receiving approval of repair material.
5. Supervision
