with UNICEF Syria.
If successful, youll be part of a dynamic and passionate team in Syria that works together to improve the health, nutrition,
water, sanitation, hygiene, basic education and protection of Syrian girls and boys and protect them from violence,
exploitation and abuse.
The successful candidate will be offered a Fixed Term Appointment initially for one year. Further extensions will be
based on organizational needs, availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
Purpose of the Post
Under the general supervision of the Child Survival Programme Specialist, the Nutrition Officer will be Accountable for
professional technical contribution to project design, planning, administration, monitoring and evaluation of Nutrition
programme/project activities, data analysis and progress reporting, and commitment for enhancement of teamwork and
capacity building, in support of achievement of planned objectives of the work plan, aligned with country programme
goals and strategy. This includes all emergency nutrition projects and interventions related to the Syrian Humanitarian
Assistance Response Plan SHARP and any other relevant plans.
Major duties and responsibilities include:
1. Support efforts to ensure the availability of accurate, complete and up-to-date information required for effective
Nutrition programme and project design, implementation, management, monitoring and evaluation tacking into
consideration the current emergency situation in the country and the need for nutrition assessments for displaced
and vulnerable children. Draft sound Nutrition programme budgets for review by the supervisor.
2. Enhance project efficiency and effectiveness through implementation follow-on, including monitoring UNICEF
inputs, local conditions and resources, flow of supply and non-supply assistance and Nutrition project status. This
will include field visits to all the Syrian governorates.
3. Analyze collected data and information and prepare progress reports; assist in draft changes in Nutrition project
work plans considering the current emergency situations and assist in identification of required supplies and
equipment as well as in the drafting of Country Programme Recommendation and other project documentation,
assuring accuracy and consistency with established rules, regulations and plans of action.
4. Ensure the appropriateness of financial, administrative and supply documentation; verify that Nutrition project
expenditures are within allotments and that data is consistent with the project information and database (e.g.,
SAP). Follow up on queries or initiate corrective action on discrepancies.
5. Compile Nutrition project implementation training and orientation materials to promote knowledge sharing with
donors and media.

6. Ensure the effective communication and networking developed and maintained through partnership and
collaboration.

Collaborate with Operations staff to implement internal controls systems and resolve day-to-day issues or
discrepancies in financial or supply management.
Team with local Government counterparts to exchange information on Nutrition project implementation and
status as well as movement and distribution of supplies.
Help coordinate with members of the development community, including NGOs, UN and bilateral agencies in the
exchange of information relating to Nutrition sector.

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes

University degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Public Health & Nutrition, Health
Sciences, Public Health & Nutrition Policy and Management, Family and Community Health & Nutrition,
Nutritional Epidemiology, Health & Nutrition Education, Health & Nutrition Promotion and Disease Prevention,
Public Health Preparedness, Health Emergency Preparedness, or other relevant discipline(s).
Background/familiarity with Emergency.
Two years of relevant professional work experience. or field work experience (for NO).
Confirmed experience in project planning, management, monitoring and evaluation.
Work experience in any international organization is an asset.
Work experience in an emergency/humanitarian context is an asset.
Work experience in any international organization is an asset.
Good knowledge of computer systems and applications;
Good communication, analytical skills;
Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working
relationships, both within and outside the organization.
Fluency in Arabic and good command of English language both written and spoken are essential.
