Network Equipment Rack

This diagram shows the layout of a network server room and a detailed view of six of the
network equipment racks.

Diagram Layout
The first page of the diagram is a floor plan of the server room showing the location of
the equipment racks and location of the computer equipment in the room. Pages two
through seven show a front view of the network equipment racks and the details of the
computers on the racks.

Data
There are two levels of data being displayed in this diagram, rack level detail and
equipment level detail.
The data resides in an Excel file named Network Equipment Rack Data.xls. The data is
stored in two tables.
Rack Data is stored in the table named WA_Office. The data table has the following
columns:
RackName
TotalRU The total number of RU in the rack
UsedRU
BTULimit
Heat
CurrentLimit
Current
MaxTemperature
Temperature
Weight
Status
Equipment Data is stored in the table named WA-F04-Equip. The data table has the
following columns:
Network Name
Product Description
IP Address
Location
Administrator
Operating System
CPU (MHz)
Memory (MB)
Manufacturer

Status

Data Graphics
There are four data graphics used in this diagram.

Data - Rack Floor plan


This data graphic is made up of one element and is applied to the rack shapes on the floor
plan.
Temperature This is a color by value element that displays one of three colors
depending on the temperature of the rack enclosure.

Data - Rack Detail


This data graphic is made up of seven elements and is applied to the racks on the detailed
rack view pages.
Temperature This is a color by value element that displays one of three colors
depending on the temperature of the rack enclosure.
RackName A text element.
Current A text element.
Weight A text element.
Heat A text element.
Temperature This is a data bar element that displays the temperature of the rack
enclosure on a speedometer, with a minimum value of 32 and a max of 100.
UsedRU This is a data bar element that gives a visual indication of the amount
of Rack Units used in the rack. Values range form 0 to 42.

Data - Equipment 1
This data graphic is made up of two elements and is applied to the equipment in the racks
on the details pages.
Network Name A text element.
IP Address A text element.

Data - Equipment 2
This data graphic is made up of two elements and is applied to the servers in the racks on
the details pages.
Network Name A text element.
Product Description A text element.
Status An icon set that displays warnings when the status is something other
than OK.
CPU A data bar element that shows a graph representing the MHz of the CPU.
Memory A data bar element that shows a graph representing the amount of
memory in the server.
Operating system A text element.

Refreshing Data
Originally the Visio Drawing and Data files were placed in the following directory C:\
Professional Services. To refresh the data when the data file resides in a different
location use the following steps:
1. Right Click on the External Data window and choose Configure Refresh
2. Click Change Data Source
3. Choose Microsoft Office Excel workbook, then click Next >
4. Click Browse, navigate to and select Network Equipment Rack Data.xls,
then click Open
5. Click Next >
6. Click Ok to select a new data source
7. With WA_Office$ as the range you want to use, and First row of data contains
column headings checked, Click Next >
8. Click Next > to include all columns and all data
9. Click Finish to exit the Data Selector
10. Click Ok to exit the Refresh Data dialog
11. Repeat for the WA-F04-Equip$ data table.
12. Right Click on the External Data window and choose Refresh Data to refresh
the data in the drawing.
