Course Objective:
Explain why the study of leadership is so complicated and identify some
of the various debates about the study of leadership.
Describe the different theories of leadership that have emerged from the
study of individuals and outline the ways in which individuals choose to
lead.
Describe how leaders are influenced by the followers and describe the
theories of leadership that have been derived from analyzing the leaderfollower dynamic.
Explain how situational theories of leadership combine elements of the
leader, follower, and situation and describe how leaders change their style
based on an analysis of the situation.

Prescribed text:
Pedagogy: Pedagogic mix includes Video Clippings, Powerpoint
Presentations to put forward teachable points, Class
Assignments, Standard Interactive Sessions, Quizzes if any,
Suggested Notes for Off Contact Assignments. Emphasis will be
on discussion and active exchange of ideas.

your leadership style. This
demands knowledge of ones

addition, the management of

Conflict and
Negotiation
(Module-5)

Conflict is an emotional or
cognitive response that occurs
when the interest, perspective
and behaviors of one person or
group differ from another
person or group. Although most
people dislike conflict, it can be
managed effectively. Conflict
management styles develop over
time based diverse factors such
as life experiences, values and
training.

Leading
Teams
(Module-6)

Teams have defined tasks that


demand people to work
together interdependently to
achieve a common goal. The
success of a team depends upon
members being motivated to
accomplish a goal through
collective actions, the ability to
learn from each other, and the
willingness to develop
constructive work relationships.
Although a team may have a
formal leaders, all members
should contribute their talents
and be accountable for the
teams effectiveness.

interpersonal conflict and intergroup
conflict and describe some of the theories
that help explain both forms of conflict.
2) Describe the most common source of
conflict.
3) Outline ways in which managers can
respond to or manage conflict.
4) Differentiate between distributive and
integrative negotiations and describe
situations in which these two approaches
are used.
5) Outline the steps involved in preparing to
negotiate, explain the difference between

Motivation
(Module-7)

Motivation is the desire,


incentive, or stimulus to pursue
a course of action. Individuals
can be motivated by many
different factors. Understanding
what motivates you can help
you with goal setting, career
choices, and performance
management.

1) Differentiate between intrinsic and


extrinsic rewards and describe how they
influence motivation.
2) Outline the 5 primary content theories
of motivation and describe how they
are similar or different.
3) Describe the primary process theories
of motivation and what each one
attempts to measure.
4) Explain the different ways in which
desired behavior is reinforced within an
organization and the role that job
design plays in channeling motivation.
5) Outline the similarities and differences
in motivation among different
generations of employees in the
workplace and describe how companies
attempt to address specific drivers of
motivation.

Communicating
(Module-8)

Communication is an
important managerial
task.
Successful managers use
communication as a
vehicle for planning,
inspiring, and deciding
behavior. Managerial work
involves communication
with members at all levels
of the organization, as
well as with external
stakeholders. How
effective are you in
communication skills?

1) Describe how effective and ineffective


communication can influence an
organization.

communication and describe different

organization and how communication is
used to persuade teams.

Networking
(Module-9)

Networks are webs of relationships


that individuals can use to
accomplish task and goals and to
develop personally and
professionally .Key activities of
network may include exchanging
information, sharing resources,
and creating new relationships.
Networks can positively contribute
to a persons productivity, learning
and career success.

Ethics and
CSR
(Module-10)

Ethics is the study of


morality, and morality is
defined as the standards
used to judge what is right
or wrong, good or evil. Our
ethical beliefs are influenced
by life experiences, cultural
heritage & personal values.

interpersonal networks and the benefits
associated with each type.
3) Explain how centrality and brokerage
impact the breadth of a network.
4) Differentiate between strong and weak
ties in networks and explain the
