WATER SYSTEM
Potable Water System
The potable water system uses a water tank under the lavatory sink wash basin.
The potable water supplies water to the lavatory sink only. The lavatory wash
basin has a single faucet that provides warm water at approximately 98F. The
faucet is electrically operated and controls the electrically driven water pump.
Operation
The water tank, located under the basin, is connected to the system with a quick
disconnect. When the faucet lever is pressed, the electronic control box,
located under the basin, energizes the water pump. The water is pumped into
the in-line, 40-watt water heater. When the water leaves the heater, its
temperature is approximately 98F. The water drains from the basin into the
toilet waste manifold, upstream of the ball valve. When the faucet lever is
released, the electronic control box de-energizes the water pump.
Cleaning
If there area signs of contamination, or if a repair has been made to the system,
the system must be disinfected. The disinfectant is a combination of chlorine
dioxide and citric acid. After draining the water tank, approximately one-half
gallon of water is placed in the tank. The cleaning solution is then added before
the tank is filled with potable water. The faucet is opened until disinfectant flows
from the faucet, and then the solution is allowed to remain in the system for one
hour. The system is then drained and re-filled with potable water. If there is a
taste or smell of chlorine, re-service the potable water system until the taste or
smell is gone. Reference AMM 38-10-60 for more information about performing
this task.

WASTE SYSTEM COMPONENTS

Physical Description
The toilet assembly has these parts:

Toilet shroud
Flush handle
Toilet bowl
Toilet tank
Drain valve (inside tank)
Separator
Flush motor-pump-filter assembly
Fluid level sensor
Flush timer (not shown)
Drain valve control cable
Waste drain ball valve
Rinse/fill line check valve

Location
A toilet assembly is in the lavatory. It is under the toilet shroud.
Functional Description
When the flush handle is pushed, the flush motor turns on for 10 seconds. The
motor pulls fluid from the inside of the tank through a filter. The fluid discharges
around the upper rim of the toilet bowl to wash the sides of the bowl. It exits
through the a separator at the bottom of the bowl into the tank.
There is an overflow line installed on the toilet waste tank to drain fluid from the
toilet tank. The overflow line connects into the drain line between the toilet drain
valve and the waste drain ball valve.
All components can be removed and replaced from the exterior of the tank.

WASTE SYSTEM OPERATION

Toilet System Operation
When the flush handle is pushed, it connects 115v ac power to the motor. The
motor is mechanically connected to the flush pump which draws fluid from the
interior of the filter. This fluid goes to the toilet bowl through a supply line inside
the waste tank. The fluid is discharged around the upper rim of the toilet bowl.
It washes the sides of the bowl and goes out through the separator at the
bottom of the bowl.
Toilet System Servicing
Servicing of the system is from an exterior service panel. These components
are on the panel:
Service drain outlet
Drain valve control handle
Water supply fitting.
For servicing the system, do these steps:
Open the access panel
Open the cap on drain outlet
Connect the line from the service cart to the toilet drain outlet.
Note:

If the drain line adapter contains a safety plug removal tool, make
sure the tool is fully retracted.

Turn the OPEN/CLOSE lever 1/4 turn to open the flapper valve.
Pull the drain valve control handle (5 inches) and turn 90 degrees to lock it
in the extended position. This lifts the drain valve off its seat and let the
contents of the waste tank empty.
Attach a water supply line to the water supply fitting and supply water
under pressure (30 psig at a maximum flow of 10 GPM (38 LPM)). The
water goes through a check valve on the top of tank and into a spray
nozzle inside the filter basket which turns because of the water pressure.
The filter and inside walls of the tank are rinsed. The wash water drains
through the drain line into the service vehicle.
Unlock the drain

Precharge with valve control handle and release it. This lets the drain
valve reseat. 2-3 gallons (8-12L) of a water mixture that has a dye,
deodorant, and a disinfectant.
Disconnect and remove the drain line adapter.
Turn the OPEN/CLOSE lever 1/4 turn to close the flapper valve
Close cap on drain fitting
Remove the water supply line and install the dust cap
Close the access panel.

WASTE SYSTEM DRAIN

Waste Tank Servicing
The waste tank is serviced through the forward service panel. You must drain
rinse and add chemical precharge to the tank each time you service it. The
tasks are described in detail in AMM12-17-02/301.
Open the door for the toilet service panel
Open cap on waste tank drain connection
Note:

Fluid in the drain line is an indication that the drain valve may have
a leak.

During flushing and filling of toilet tank , 28 volt dc is available from ground
handling bus to power the tank fluid level sensor and energize one control relay.
Also, 115 volt ac is available from the ground handling bus to energize the other
control relay and open the rinse line shutoff valve in the tank rinse line. If the
fluid in the tank is allowed to rise to the set level, the sensor will de-energize a
control relay and close the shutoff valve in the rinse line.
The shutoff valve will automatically open when the fluid level is lowered.
The shutoff valve is driven closed when the ground handling bus is deenergized.
The shutoff valve can be manually opened to permit toilet tank servicing.
