The LG Optimus Black P970 is receiving official ICS update though it is too late for LG to roll out this update. It has been reported that these updates are rolling out in a few countries now
and there is no idea about when this update will be available in your region. To check if it is currently available for your region, go to Settings>About phone and tap Check for updates
an update is available for your device, you should see it as a notification. Just download the update and install it via WiFi. Installation of these updates will wipe all data on your device so
please make sure that you backup everything to your external memory.
In case you do not receive any notification of the OTA (Over The Air) update, well let you know how to install this update on your phone using a KDZ updater, thanks to the folks at XDA
for providing a flashable KDZ file and a zip file for this update.

Before you proceed with the installation, you need to backup all data.
[box_light]You will not be able to flash CWM after this update because the bootloader is locked. It may be possible in future though. To root the device after this update, read this
get CWM on your device and flash CyanogeMod 9 or CyanogenMod 10 by rolling back to Gingerbread using this guide.[/box_light]
Prerequisites
Back up all apps using ASTRO File Manager. You can get the APK files using ASTRO and later restore it. Rooted users can use Titanium Backup which also backs up data along with
the apps.
Back up all contacts to SD card.
Backup SMSonAndroid.
Backup call logonAndroid.
Have minimum 60% charge on your phone else you might get stuck while the update process is running on your device.
Remove any security or Anti-virus app if you have them installed.
Enable USB Debugging. This can be don by Settings>Applications>Development and making sure that USB Debugging is checked.

Steps To Install Official ICS on LG Optimus Black P970

[box_light]If you have recovery mode on your device, just flashthis zip filevia the recovery mode. Make sure you wipe data, cache and dalvik cache. If this doesnt work, follow the
procedure given below.[/box_light]
Flash Using SmartFlash Tool

Quite a lot of them are facing issues with the KDZ method, hence I recommend this method to get ICS on your phone. In this method you will be using SmartFlash Tool.
1. DownloadSmartFlash Tool(mirror)[password:radkor@XDA]andunzipthe files.
2. Download .bin and .fls files for the official ICS ROM from this linkandunzipthemtogetthetwo files.
3. RunB_SmartFlashTool_Extern.exe
4. In SmartFlash Tool (SFT) select ROM copy D/L
5. In select mode, choose Normal mode.
6. In CP bin, select the .fls file. In AP bin, select the .bin file

7. The next step is to put your phone into s/w update mode. To do this, remove the battery of your phone and re-insert it (dont turn it on). Press and hold Volume Up button and
connect the phone to PC via USB. It should now show S/W upgrade Please wait.
8. ChooseCOMport.
9. chooseLGE Mobile USB Serial PortinCommunication Driver.
The SmartFlashTool must look like this (Ignore the file names)
10. Click on Start button and wait for the firmware to be flashed. You should see the following screens:
Finally when the process is complete, you should see this:

If you face any issues with this, you can try the KDZ method given below. If both dont work, leave a comment below. (Source)
Flash Using KDZ Updater

1. DownloadKDZ updaterandinstallitonyourcomputer.Download this KDZ file.
2. The zip file has a Microsoft XML parser, make sure you run it and restart your PC. This will solve the wparam 100 and lparam 6 issue.
3. The next step is to put your phone into s/w update mode. To do this, remove the battery of your phone and re-insert it (dont turn it on). Press and hold Volume Up button and
connect the phone to PC via USB. It should now show S/W upgrade Please wait.
4. Run KDZ updater as Administrator.
5. Choose the following options in KDZ Updater: Type: 3GQCT Phone Mode: DIAG and KDZ file is the one you downloaded in step 1.
6. Click on Launch Software Update button.
7. This process is usually long. It take quite a long time for the firmware to be flashed on your phone.
8. If everything goes well, you will see Finished written in the log screen and your phone will change to switched off mode from Emergency mode.
9. The next time you turn it on, your phone will take a lot of time to reboot. This is normal!
10. The phone may start in Arabic language but do not do anything for a while after the phone boots up and then you will be able to select your desired language.

Flash Tool method is simply awesome!!! I've no words to describe how happy I'm!!!!!! Flash method works if it is done correctly,for me it worked seemless!!! Very
much thanks to uploader! EVERYTHING just works fine!!! I'm feeling like I've bought a new phone :-P

Hi , I started updating my Lg p970 using LG suite. It errored out in middle. Phone screen is " S/W Upgrade Please wait".
then I searched and tried your method, it is resulting in timeout error:

the kdz method didnt work for me because the "phone was not found" how do i fix this?
