reccreationofit.Bothderivefromtheintrinsicallycreativeworkingsofthebrain.Theroleofcreativityintheartist
andinthebeholderisnowbeingactivelyexploredincognitivepsychologicaltermsbybrainscientists.For
biologists,thestudyofcreativityrankswiththestudyofconsciousnessasbeingontheedgeoftheunknown.
Fromthepointofviewofcognitivepsychology,theartistdepictstheworldandthepeopleinitbytargetingand
manipulatingthebrainsabilitytomakemodelsofemotionalandperceptualreality.Todothis,theartisthasto
understandintuitivelythebrainsrulesforperception,color,emotion,andempathy.Inturn,thebrainscapability
forimitationandempathygivesbothartistandbeholderaccesstotheprivatementalworldofothers(Kandel450).

Whattypesofpeoplearemostlikelytobecreative?Historically,creativepeoplewereoftenviewedas
touchedbydivineinspiration.Withtheadventofpsychologyasanacademicdisciplineatthebeginningofthe
twentiethcentury,attemptsweremadetomeasurecreativity,muchasintelligencequotients(IQs)wereusedto
measureintelligence.Thisledtotheconclusionthatcreativityisbasedonintelligenceandthatitisasingletraitthat
acreativepersoncanmanifestandapplytoanydomainofknowledge.Thus,tobecreativeatonethingmeanta
