Theformofaworkisitsshape,includingitsvolumeorperceivedvolume.Athreedimensionalartworkhas
depthaswellaswidthandheight.Threedimensionalformisthebasisofsculpture.[1]However,two
dimensionalartworkcanachievetheillusionofformwiththeuseofperspectiveand/orshadingor
modellingtechniques.[2][3]Formalismistheanalysisofworksbytheirformorshapesinarthistoryor
archeology.
Line
Linesandcurvesaremarksthatspanadistancebetweentwopoints(orthepathofamovingpoint).Asan
elementofart,lineistheuseofvariousmarks,outlinesandimpliedlinesinartworkanddesign.Alinehas
awidth,direction,andlength.[1]Aline'swidthissometimescalledits"thickness".Linesaresometimes
called"strokes",especiallywhenreferringtolinesindigitalartwork.
Color
Coloristheelementofartthatisproducedwhenlight,strikinganobject,isreflectedbacktotheeye.[1]
Therearethreepropertiestocolor.Thefirstishue,whichsimplymeansthenamewegivetoacolor(red,
yellow,blue,green,etc.).Thesecondpropertyisintensity,whichreferstothevividnessofthecolor.A
color'sintensityissometimesreferredtoasits"colorfulness",its"saturation",its"purity"orits
"strength".Thethirdandfinalpropertyofcolourisitsvalue,meaninghowlightordarkitis.[4]Theterms
shadeandtintrefertovaluechangesincolors.Inpainting,shadesarecreatedbyaddingblacktoacolor,
whiletintsarecreatedbyaddingwhitetoacolor.[2]

Space
Spaceisanareathatanartistprovidesforaparticularpurpose.[1]Spaceincludesthebackground,
foregroundandmiddleground,andreferstothedistancesorarea(s)around,between,andwithinthings.
Therearetwokindsofspace:negativespaceandpositivespace.[5]Negativespaceistheareainbetween,
around,throughorwithinanobject.Positivespacesaretheareasthatareoccupiedbyanobjectand/or
form.
Texture
Texture,anotherelementofart,isusedtodescribeeitherthewayaworkactuallyfeelswhentouched,or
thedepictionoftexturesinworks,asforexampleinapainter'srenderingoffur.
