INTRODUCTION
A. BACKGROUND OF STUDY
Language was one of important thing in human life to
communicate. In communication, this language has its own rule. A rule in a
language was call grammar. Grammar was a theory of language of how
language was put together and how it works. Those were traditional grammar,
formal grammar, and functional grammar. The unit of analyzed of traditional
grammar and formal grammar was the sentence. While, the unit of analyzed
functional grammar was the whole texts. Language was something people do,
not something people know. This grammar attempts to describe language in
actual used and it focus on text and its context. They concern not only with
the structure but also how those structure construct meaning. Systemic
Functional grammar was a multifunctional view of language in which each
metafunction assign a structure to the clause. It was one several functional
theories in the current discipline of linguistics which conceives of text as
social interaction.
Language refers two kinds of language, written and spoken
language. Everyday human communicate use language both spoken and
written language. Spoken language sometimes called oral language. It was
produced in spontaneous form, as opposed to written language. There were
two kinds of context: context of situation and context of culture.
Context of situation can be specific through register. Register was a
variation of language that occurs in society. Register has three variables that
were usually called as field, tenor, and mode. Field refers to what is going

on, tenor refers to who is taking part, and mode refers to how language is
being used. It can be concluded that through field, tenor, and mode people
were able know with whom people were talking to, what topic people were
talking about, and what channel or kind of language people use when people
were talking to. The research chooses to analyze childrens story used
systemic functional grammar.
Based on the theory above systemic functional grammar, the writer
interested study on REGISTER FOUND IN THE TEXT CHILDRENS
STORIES (A beautiful morning in the forest, the Sunday morning, and
the
clever
rabbit)

B. IDENTIFICATION OF THE PROBLEM
Based on background of the study, identification of the problem was
to analyzed the register in three childrens stories in a beautiful morning in the
forest, the Sunday morning, and the clever rabbit.
C. LIMITATION OF THE PROBLEM
The limitation this problem, the writer discuss childrens stories in
three titles to found register field, register tenor, and register mode in
childrens stories.
D. PROBLEM STATEMENT
The objectives of this study were :
1. How was the field of childrens stories in a beautiful morning in the
forest, the sunday morning, and the clever rabbit through systemic
functional linguistic perspectives?
