Topic: A visit to London
Type of lesson: mixed lesson
Vocabulary: used in every-day conversation
Aims:
- To develop students listening and speaking skills in a creative way
- To build on studentscultural knowledge
Lesson aims:
- SWBAT practise speaking fluently on the given topic
-SWBAT use their knowledge about the other cultures
-SWBAT use the vocabulary in new contexts
Skills: reading, listening, speaking, writing
Audio-visuals: pictures, blackboard and chalk, studentsnotebooks, whorksheets, flipchart,
role-play handouts, overhead projector, laptop, dictionary
Classroom interactions: whole class, individual work, pair work, group work
Assumptions: the students are familiar with most of the lexic involved
Possible problems: - the students may not know how to ask correct questions; pair-work can
solve this problem, or the teacher may have to help
- some of the students may have problems in solving the tasks

Activity 1 : Warm-up
Aims: - to introduce the students into the atmosphere of the lesson

- to attract students attention on the topic


The teacher greets the class and the students greet back. The teacher asks if anyone is missing
and the student on duty name them if it is necessary.
Homework verification.
Procedure
The teacher will ask the students if they know what famous places they can visit in London.
The students will see some pictures of famous places from London. T asks students to work
in pairs to match the place names and the picture of famous places (Big Ben, London Eye,
Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Buckingam Palace, Houses of Parliament, Oxford Street,
Madame Tussauds)
After they will finish, they will get the answers and correct themselves if it is necessary.

Activity 2
Aim: - to develop students ability to listen to and extract information from an authentic
listening
The teacher asks the students how tourists usually visit these famous places. T elicits from Ss
answers like They usually go by train, taxi or tourist bus. T asks who usually talks to the
tourists about the famous places during a tour on a bus. ( A tour guide.)
The teacher writes A visit to London on the board and asks students to write the topic in
their notbooks. T tells the Ss that they are going to listen to a guided tour on a bus in London.
They will get workseets with a reordering task. While the students will listening the
conversation, they have to put the places in the order that the tour bus will visit them. Then
will hear again the conversation for checking and correcting if it is necessary.

Activity 3
Aim: - to develop students ability to listen to and extract information from an authentic
listening
The students will get worksheets with a multiple choice task. They will hear the audio again
and select the correct answers. Ss compare in pairs before checking answers as a class.

Activity 4

Aim: - to develop students ability to listen to and extract information from an authentic
listening
The class will be divided in 4 groups. The students must choose 4 leaders (runners). Leaders
must run in a corner of the class where is located a paper sheet with a list of few word. They
read it, run back and dictate it word by word to the scribes who will write it down. Even the
runners write the following list in their notebooks (question, history, umbrellas, famous people,
the queen, shopping, money). Now they are going to listen carefully to the tourists rather than
the tour guide. The audio will be played a final time and the students (individually) must
underline the topics that the tourists mentions in their notebooks.

Activity 5 role play
Aim: - to practise writing and speaking skills
The teacher hands out the last task. She tells the class to imagine that they are on a guided
tour visiting the places listed on the board (The Village Museum, The Parliament Palace, The
House of the Free Press, Victory Avenue, The Arch of Triumph). Using the didactic method
Stellar explosion, the teacher will divide the class into small groups of 2 or 3 pupils. Will be
6 groups, each group will receive a star with a word written on (A BUCHAREST TOUR,
WHAT?, WHY?, WHERE?, WHEN?, WHO?). Ask for volunteers (2 students in class) to be
tour guides. The rest of the class are tourists. Tour guides group prepare their speech and
tourists prepare their questions in small groups. If tour guides finish their preparation
quickly, the teacher asks them to memorise their speech. The teacher will monitor the groups
and help them if it is necessary. They have 10 to solve the task. After they will finish, they
will act out the role-play and will arrrange the stars on flipchart. The teacher gives awards to
the students who have done well and encourage the others (common errors, good language
or pronunciation).

Activity 6: Fallow-up - writing
Aim: - to encourage Ss to use their imagination, creativity and knowledge about the topic
The teacher gives instructions for the homework assignment: Plan a holiday They must
plan a 3 days holiday in a foreign country and think about the places they would go and the
things they would do.
