Income Statement

Income statement provided is in the MIS format.

MIS format is different from the income statement published as part of financial results in
terms of grouping of cost elements.
Key differences to be noted are as follows:
1. MIS format breaks-up operating costs as COR, S&M and G&A
2. Depreciation line item in MIS format also includes the lease rentals for computing
hardware (CAPEX equivalent) and excludes software depreciation which is clubbed
under software expenses in COR
3. FX gain/(loss) is grouped under Other Income in MIS format as against operating cost
in financials.
For EBITDA calculation, amortization software has been added and lease rentals
have been reduced in depreciation

Note from the MDs Desk

We have had an exceptional quarter with significant improvements in margins and
profitability for Geometric, excluding our joint venture. As I will explain below, the
results are not a flash in the pan, but the outcome of a planned journey to build a
sustainable enterprise.
Our contribution margin (excluding our joint venture) grew 5.4% in constant currency
terms, and 5.3% as reported. Our consolidated EPS grew from 2.97 to 3.57, a
growth of 20% Q-on-Q, the EPS represents the highest profit ever reported by
Geometric in a quarter. While our revenues grew about 1.7% Q-on-Q in US dollar
terms, our pipeline climbed by 23% over the last quarter.
At the beginning of the financial year, we were faced with a situation of high costs and
sluggish growth, leading to low profitability. As a management team, we were
determined to change the situation and took strong actions to restructure and
transform the Company. While we did not delay annual salary increases, we used the
opportunity to create a performance culture, and eliminating roles, which did not
justify costs. In doing so, we took help from external consultants, whose participation
is now more or less over. We have now set in place mechanisms to not only sustain,
but improve these margins in the quarters to come. I must, however, mention that
beyond a stage, we cannot keep increasing margins as the market place demands we
change our approach, requiring an investment in people and solutions.
The changes in demand represent an opportunity that can transform the Company.
Our customers are driving us to help them find innovative solutions to their problems.
This will require us to build stronger front ends and improve our project management
capability. We will also need to partner with companies to fill gaps in competence, as
some of the needs are very specialized. To address these challenges will require
investments, which I am pleased to say we can now make, given the improvement in
our financial outlook.
As I mentioned earlier, our pipeline has significantly improved. While we did lose some
deals, we have had many important wins. In early October, our Consulting team won
a major assignment in the automotive sector, our largest consulting win to date. We
also won other major projects in almost all our verticals, although most of our wins
were in the PLM software space.
I am also pleased to report our finance and support teams efforts are bearing fruit in
that we have now stabilized our ERP. With better control of data, we were able to
more accurately measure utilization in line with industry best practice. Between the
two-quarters, our utilization (excluding our joint venture) went up from 72.7% to
74.1%, which in turn contributed significantly to the improvement in margins.

Our efforts are now concentrated on two aspects, viz. improve our margins to sustain
the momentum we have built, and to enhance the growth in revenue, both in terms
of dollars and in terms of quality, by increasing the value add component. With that
background I can confirm that we should see continued improvement in margins for
the next two quarters, coupled with a modest revenue growth in US dollars.

Sincerely,

Manu Parpia
Managing Director & CEO
