Pottasium cloride is a metal halida salt composed of pottasium and chloride. It is
odorless and has a white crystal appearance. It is not corrosive and flammable too. The
chemical formula of pottasium chloride is KCl. The pottasium chloride has molecular weight
of 74,55 g/mole, the boiling point of pottasium chloride is 1420 oC and for melting point is
770 oC, the pottasium chloride has density of 1,984 g/cm3. Pottasium chloride is soluble in a
variety of polar solvent for example in water, pottasium chloride had solubility 360 g/kg of
solvent at 25 oC.
The majority of pottasium chloride is used for making fertilizer, it is the most widely
used K fertilizer due to its relatively low cost and because it includes more K than most other
sources. Pottasium chloride also used in medicine, Potassium is a mineral that is found in
many foods and is needed for several functions of body, especially the beating of our heart.
Potassium chloride is used to prevent or to treat low blood levels of potassium
(hypokalemia). Potassium levels can be low as a result of a disease or from taking certain
medicines, or after a prolonged illness with diarrhea or vomiting.

What Is Potassium Chloride?

Potassium chloride is a mineral supplement used to treat or prevent low levels of

potassium in the blood. The supplement, often referred to as the formula KCl, is available
from dozens of manufacturers. Potassium is essential for the function of the heart, muscles,
kidneys, nerves, and digestive system. Typically, a well-balanced diet supplies all the
potassium you need. However, certain diseases, conditions, or drugs can remove potassium
from the body. Potassium depletion may be caused by:

Excessive vomiting or diarrhea

Diuretic drugs

Diabetic ketoacidosis caused by extremely high blood sugar

Kidney disease

Adrenal gland disorders

Certain gastrointestinal conditions

Potassium Chloride Warnings

Before taking potassium chloride, you should tell your doctor if you have or have ever had:

Kidney disease

Heart disease

An adrenal problem, such as Addison's disease

Throat problems

Stomach or intestinal issues

You should also tell your doctor that you are taking potassium chloride before surgery,
including dental procedures. There have been rare reports of stomach ulcers and bleeding
with the sustained-release potassium products, so it's best to take the liquid form of the
supplement. Tell your doctor if you are using a salt substitute before taking potassium
chloride. Many of these contain potassium, so your doctor may alter your dose. It's important
to keep all doctor and laboratory appointments while taking potassium chloride. Your
physician may order certain tests to check your body's response to potassium.
