25 March 2010

Dear Respectful Leaders,

Re: Please take action on Burma now!

First of all, I would like to thank you for given me the opportunity to
write to you. I am Daw San San, the member of the parliament elect in
1990 elections and vice president of “The Members of Parliament Union
Burma” (MPU)@.

I warmly welcome convening the “UNSC Briefing on Burma” and

scheduled meeting of “Group of Friends of Myanmar” which will be held
on 25 March 2010.

I write this letter to inform you my views on what is really happening in

Burma and what are true desire of Burmese people. I, honestly and with
clear vision, don’t believe the junta. Our experiences have taught us a lot
to be sceptical of the junta.

The Junta of Burma is the one and only one in the world who always
breaks his promises and keeps on giving promises.

The ruling junta came to power in 1988 after gunned down more than
3000 peaceful demonstrators, pledged to transfer power after the
election.

The very junta held the election in 1990 in which Daw Aung San Suu Kyi
led NLD party won the landslide victory, ignores to honour the election
results and planning to hold election this year in order to legitimise
military rule within Burma.

In 1996, the students led demonstrations were broke out and junta
unleashed its troops to attack peaceful demonstrators and imprisoned
student leaders. There are now thousands of political prisoners in
Burma.

In 2003 junta backed militia attacked the Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s
motorcade and hundreds of her supporters were beaten to death which is
known as “Depeyin massacre”. No action taken on state sponsored
culprits, instead junta placed Aung San Suu Kyi under house arrest.

In September 2007, the Buddhist Monks led peaceful demonstrations,

junta brutally crack down peaceful demonstrators by killing, arresting
and imprisoning dissidents of which the world shockingly witness via
media.

In May 2008, the Cyclone Nargis struck Burma leaving more than 200,
000 people died and 2.5 million homeless. Junta deliberately delay to
give humanitarian assistance to cyclone victims and prioritised to adopt
its sham constitution through sham referendum.

In May 2009, junta plotted the ploy on Daw Aung San Suu Kyi which is
the pre-text to extend her six years detention in order to exclude her in
Burma’s political process.

Before we could possible address the junta’s proposed 2010 election we

must address the validity of the recently adapted constitution and its so-
called electoral laws drafted by the junta which are far from credible or
constitutional and obviously not free, fair and all inclusive.

The military commander in chief was also given absolute authority to

dissolve the parliament at any time effectively neutralizing the voice of
the people and the military takes up 25% of the parliamentary seats
systematically entrenching military rule in Burma.

The essence of the 2008 Constitution is to guarantee impunity

indefinitely, the essence of electoral laws are eliminating democratic
principles and 2010 election will implement them.

Burma’s legitimate elected leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi said she would
not even think of registering under these unjust [election] laws.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and her party the National League for Democracy
(NLD), the unanimous victors of the 1990 election, which clearly stated
their position in “Shwe-Gone-Daing” declaration that need to place in
order to have true national reconciliation in Burma, i.e. to
1. Release all the political prisoners
2. Review 2008 Constitution
3. Recognise 1990 election result
4. Take place political dialogue

Burma’s democratic and ethnics organisations are united in one voice,

i.e.
1. to implement “Shwe-Gone-Dine” declaration
2. to void junta’s unilaterally adopted constitution
3. to void junta’s unjust electoral laws
4. to reject junta’s sham election and its results

Ultimately, Burmese people are now calling for “Interim Government”

led by Aung San Suu Kyi.

Burma crisis has been happening for decades and I sincerely call for
world leaders to take action on Burma practically especially we would
like to see UNSC binding resolution on Burma.

The people of Burma look to the world leaders in an effort to garner

support for a democratic Burma and thank you very much for your time.

Yours faithfully,

Daw San San
