The Dean of the Missouri School of Journalism on Tuesday lambasted an assistant communications professor and
lauded a photojournalism student for their roles in Monday's viral video showing a confrontation between that student
journalist and protesters attempting to block him from shooting photos on a public quad.

The video, showing University of Missouri protestors and Assistant Professor Melissa Click, was posted on YouTube
shortly after University of Missouri System President Tim Wolfe resigned following a week of protests over his perceived
lack of response to a series of racially charged incidents. The Los Angeles Times reported that Tim Tai, a 20-year-old
senior at the university working on a freelance assignment for ESPN, went to the protesters' tent encampment to
document their reaction to the news.
Shortly after Tai arrived and began to take photos, the protesters formed a ring around the encampment and began to
push away the assembled media. Tai refused to budge.
"The Missouri School of Journalism is proud of photojournalism senior Tim Tai for how he handled himself during a
protest on Carnahan Quad on the University of Missouri campus," Dean David Kurpius said in Tuesday's statement.

"The news media have First Amendment rights to cover public events," Kurpius said. "Tai handled himself professionally
and with poise."
In the video, Tai tells one demonstrator that he has "a job to do! I'm documenting this for a national news organization.
This is the First Amendment that protects your right to stand here and mine!"
One school administrator, identified as Janna Basler, the school's director of Greek life and leadership, is seen on the
video confronting Tai. When he asks her name, Basler says, "I am Concerned Student 1950," a reference to the name of
the African-American group leading the protests.
Near the end of the video, another adult, identified as Click, tells another reporter, "You need to get out," before asking
other protesters for help.
"Who wants to help me get this reporter out of here?" she asks, adding as the video ends, "I need some muscle over
here."
Kurpius said Click, who is a member of the MU Department of Communication in the College of Arts and Science, holds a

Very disappointed in these folks. You can't speak the truth, only what
is acceptable to the people that are upset. So the President of the
university is forced to resign. You demand protection of the 1st
amendment yet when others are owed the same respect you demand
you tell them no.

Are liberals and especially blacks at Missouri that stupid. A black calls
the university a white institution - hello - There are black universities
(black institutions) but I am not aware of a white university. These
liberals need to take a course on our Constitution and especially the
First Amendment.

It was a free speech area. Why was the journalist bullied? Looks like
free speech at this university isn't so free after all.

Fire the "Courtesy" associate Prof, unless you are running a street
gang calling for muscle. Do any of these students actually pay tuition?

"Who wants to help me get this reporter out of here? I need some

professes support for the 1st amendment. Hypocrite trying to be cool.
Forget principles, just try to impress and be cool. Kind of like some
students these days. (okay, like lots of students throughout history)

Time to end those ball players scholarships. They were only intended

What is this all about anyway? Black students getting a free ride on
full scholarships, getting easier grading because of their race, and
getting preference in admissions. What else do they want anyway?
Diplomas without going to the university, and a well paid job doing
nothing for the rest of their lives? This is so out of hand.

When will white males learn that not all, but many people of color, and
women, are angry at the fact they are people of color, and women.
They can't lash out at "God", or what ever was responsible for
"making them people of color, or female." so they take their frustration
out on those they wish to be.....white males. White males, stop
bending over a grabbing your ankles.....at some point, your're going to
have to end this nonsense. It's not your fault they are "people of
color, or female
