Also check whether data is expected to be from normal distribution.
Experiment 3: Some people were surveyed to find their attitude towards physical exercise. They
were also asked their age, number of hours per week in physical exercise and whether they
participated in team sports
(i) Find whether all the data is correctly saved or not.
(ii) Determine whether the continuous variables are normal or not.
(iii) Is the variable hour of exercise normally distributed? Transform this variable in such a
way that the transformed variable is normally distributed.
(iv)Record variable age in such a way that we are able to know the number of persons with
age less than 40 and number of persons with age greater than 40.
(v) Insert a variable in the .sav file containing sum of all non-continuous variables.
(vi)Insert a variable in .sav file demonstrating the use of if condition selecting or suitable
existing variable.
Experiment 4: A coin is tossed 10 times. Find the probability distribution of numbers of
heads obtained. Try it with cdf also.
Experiment 5: I A manufacturer knows that 5% of his products are defective if he sells items in
box of 100 and guaranties that not more than 10 items will be defective, what is the approximate
probability that a box will fail to meet the guaranteed quantity.
II Products produced by a machine has a 3% defective rate. What is the probability that the first
defect occurs in the 5th item inspected?
Experiment 6: One hundred tennis players were participated in a serving competition. Gender
and number of aces were recorded for each player.

Experiment 8: Generate 20 random numbers from N (5,900) and from N (0,900), Check
whether the Means of two populations are same or not?
Experiment 9: The journal human factors (196, pp 315-380) reported a study in which n=12
subjects were asked to parallel park two cars having different wheel bases and turning radii. The
time in seconds for each subject was recorded

Experiment 10: A manufacturing company produces three machines of different make and
wishes to determine whether one of them is faster than the others in producing a certain output,
five hourly production figures are observed at random from each machine. Use ANNOVA
technique and determine whether the machines are different in their make.

Experiment 11: An oil company has developed a petrol additive that is supposed to increase the
engine efficiency. Twenty-two cars were test driven with and without the additive and the
number of kilometers per liter was recorded. This was also recorded whether the car is automatic
or manual, 1 = manual and 2 = Automatic. During an earlier trial, 22 cars were test driven using
the additive. The mean number of kilometers per liter was 10.5.

(i)
(ii)
(iii)

Are the cars in the present trial not running equally efficiently than those in the earlier
trial?
Does engine efficiency increase when the additive is used?
Does engine efficiency with and without the additive differ between manual and
automatic cars?
Experiment 12: An economist wished to compare the household expenditure on
electricity and gas in four major cities. She obtained random samples of 25 two
persons household from each city (making these as independent groups) and asked
them to keep the record of their energy expenditure over a period of six months.
Perform a one way ANOVA on this data and interpret the results.

Experiment: 13 An experiment was conducted to determine the effects of different dates of
