Im going to compare two eponym characters : Alice who is the main

character of Alice in wonderland and robinson Crusoe who is the eponym

character of the novel writen by daniel Defoe.
The first element of comparison is the sex because contrary to Robinso
Crusoe, Alice is a girl. Moreover, Robinson Crusoe is older than Alice. In the
story, his age fluctuate between 18 and 56 years old whereas Alice is
probably a teenager. Nevertheless, both of the stories seem to begin in the
United-Kingdom even if Robinson goes to South Africa while Alice follows
the White Rabbit to a Wonderland.
And as it happens, this Wonderland give rise to an atemporal, an achronic
situation ut we can guess that the story is during the 19th century.. In
contrast, in the Robinson crusoes story, the temporal framework is clearly
defined.
Now Im going to talk about the activities and the temper of these two
characters. Certain qualities are similar. For example the curiosity makes
them the perfect explorers. They want to change their life. We can say
theyre audacious. Besides, by reading the stories, we can affirm that
Robinson is as patient as Alice because Robinson keeps calm on Despair
Island while Alice has a problem : shes too spontaneous and oblivious
when, for example, she follows the rabbit headlong.. In contrary, Robinson
always thinks because he wants to lead his plantation. This is why he
teaches English to Vendredi. He anticipates the future and this capacity
makes him rich thanks to his plantation.
At last but not least, the most important similarity between the characters
of Alice in Wonderland and Robinson Crusoe is that theyre typical
characters. In Alice in wonderland, At first, there is the white rabbit, whos
constantly looking at his clock, afraid of being late: he doesn't look very
healthy. There is also the Mad Hatter who appears as the typical
Englishman because he drinks tea all day, has a weird fashion sense and
seems totally crazy. And finally, Alice shows the politeness and the curtesy
of British people.
In Robinson Crusoe, the eponym character is the reflect of the British
ethnocentrism because he teaches English to Vendredi, converts him to
catholicism and he makes him a slave, which is common during this era.
To put in a nutshell, I think Alice and Robinson Crusoe are associated in the
same document because they reprensent the British Society in different
eras. Indeed, The way of life evolves. So Robinson Crusoe represents the
Britishness during the 17th century whereas Alice represents the
Britishness during the 19th century.
