1. Define Characteristic impedance.
2. For a two port network the given Z-parameters are Z 11 = 3, Z12 = 1, Z21 =
2 and Z22=1.Find the admittance matrix.
3. How distortion is reduced in a transmission line?
4. What is skin effect?
5. State some applications of smith chart.
6. Define Reflection co-efficient and standing wave ratio.
7. Why rectangular waveguide is preferred over circular waveguide?
8. Distinguish TE and TM waves in guided wave.
9. What is dominant mode? Also state the dominant mode for TE &TM of
rectangular waveguide and find the cutoff frequency and wavelength for the
dominant TE mode with its sides as 2 cm in dimension.
10. List out the applications of resonators.

UNIT I
11. a) Derive the expressions for the hybrid parameters of a two port network and
explain it with its equivalent circuits.
b) Find the open circuit and short circuit parameters of a two terminal pair
network shown in figure below.

12. Design m-derived low pass filter, having a cut-off frequency of 5000 HZ and
a design impedance of 600 ohms. The frequency of infinite attenuation is 1.25
times of fc.

13. Derive the general equations of a transmission line. Also derive the condition
for distortion less transmission.

14. a) What is meant by loading? With the help of suitable expressions explain
the different types of loading. Also comment on its disadvantages.
b) A transmission line has the following constants:
R=10.4 ohms, L=3.66mH,C=0.00835 microfarad, G=0.08 micro mho.
Calculate Z0, , and Vp at = 5000 Radians per sec.

15. Define stub Matching. State the types of stub matching. Explain single stub
matching on a transmission line and derive the expressions for the location
and length of the stub used for matching on a line

16. a) Brief the applications of smith chart.
b) A transmission line 100 m long is terminated with a load of (100 j200) .
Determine the impedance at 25 m from the load end operating at the
frequency of 10 MHZ. Assume the line impedance is Z0 = 100 . Determine
the input impedance using smith chart. .

17. Discuss the transmission of TE waves in a guided wave between parallel
perfectly conducting planes with necessary expressions and diagrams for the
field components.
