Faraz Anwar - Abstract Point of View

Online Album Release

by Rameez Asif (rameez@raw.com.pk)

Abstract Point Of View was Faraz Anwars debut Instrumental album. It was
released in 2001 by Gnarly Geezer records owned by Allan Holdsworth. This album
gave Faraz international recognition. Abstract Point of View generated outstanding
album reviews and this album was reviewed not only in English but also in French,
German, Spanish and Russian. Everyone who reviewed the album praised the music
of Faraz Anwar and mentioned his name with the best guitar players like Allan
Holdsworth, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, John Petrucci etc.

The best painted picture I can possibly give you is something along the lines of
taking Jason Becker, Alan Holdsworth, Steve Vai, Dave Uhrich, Ronnie Montrose and
John Petrucci, put all their songwriting and musicianship skills into one person and
you have this Faraz Anwar entity (www.guitar9.com)
A lot of critics were surprised to know that Pakistan has got such a great guitarist who
is as good if not better than any other guitarist around the world.

This may be a mistaken assumption, but one imagines that the yellow pages in
Pakistan do not contain a huge selection of guitar teachers specializing in rock, metal,
fusion and jazz. Apparently influenced by an early Malmsteen video, a young Faraz
Anwar honed his craft from the Paul Gilbert tutorials and has emerged as a guitar
virtuoso with a standard of musicianship and classical sensibility that stands shoulder
to shoulder with the Satriani / Vai / McAlpine / Johnson set (Sea Of Tranquility)

This is just a small example and you can read countless such reviews of Abstract
Point of View on different Jazz, Rock and Metal websites. The album was first
released in 2001. In 2003 it was re-released by Lion Music Records and now it is
available on www.guitar9.com this is the same label which had released albums of
Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert and different other well known
guitar players.
My biggest achievement so far is this album Faraz Anwar.

The album contains six different Rock, Metal and Jazz fusion instrumentals. Through
The Passage of Time and Why? is the longest track done so far by any artist/ guitarist
in Pakistan.
The album is all about me. Its basically like a journey, sometimes it takes you to an
unknown place, sometimes its like a labyrinth, sometimes it tells you not to stop trying
if you fail in succeeding something, sometimes it talks about the religion and
sometimes it asks you an unanswered question WHY?: Faraz Anwar

Allan Holdsworth who is considered to the most renowned and technical guitar player
in the world appreciated Faraz Anwars work and called him the King of Guitars in
Pakistan.
Faraz Anwar has surprised me by his unorthodox playing. I am glad to know a
guitar player like him Allan Holdsworth (2001 on Gnarly Geezers website)

Faraz Anwar has never performed this album live in Pakistan nor internationally. In
2001 Faraz Anwar was invited by Allan Holdsworth to come and perform his album
but due to the 9/11 incident Faraz Anwar did not get the chance to go and play in the
U.S.
I want to perform this album live but I need members who can play every track
exactly like it has been recorded in the studios Faraz Anwar
Raw is honoured to be the first site to release the whole album. I would like to thank
Faraz Anwar for his time and for believing in me. Thank you Faraz bhai you are no
doubt the best musician and the best human being Ill ever know.
