LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS VII

GRADE VII
I.

Objectives
At the end of 60-minute session, the Grade VII students are expected to do the following with
at least 80% level of accuracy;
a. define polygon;
b. enumerate the classification of polygons; and
c. identify the line segments.

II.

Subject Matter
Classification of Polygons
a. Reference: Dynamic Math I by Priscilia C. De Sagun and Juela M. Naz-Ulpina
b. Materials: visual aids, behavioral chart and incentives

III.

Procedure
A. Preparation
Good morning class! (Good morning teacher.) I am Davissa Azarcon. I will be your
teacher in Mathematics. Today, we will have a new lesson. Are you ready class? (Yes
teacher!) Show me that youre ready. Pick up some pieces of trash and sit properly.
B. Motivation
I have here a chart. What can you see on the chart? (blank) Today, we will play a game. I
call this game as Build Your Own Shape. You will help me build your own shape. Group
one will build a triangle, group two will group build a square, group three will build a
rectangle and group four will build a circle. I have here on my hands fragments of different
shapes. Each fragment is equivalent to ten points. The first group to build their shapes by
participating and behaving will have a reward from me. But if you misbehave, points may be
deducted. So, are you ready to build? (Yes maam) But before anything else, counts off from
one to four and group yourself according to your number.
C. Presentation
Today, we will have an activity. I will give each group 10 popsicles sticks and a mini
board. Each group will arrange using popsicles as what is asked and place it on the mini
board. The first to make the said task will receive points. Is it clear class? (Yes maam!)
D. Discussion
Did you enjoy our activity? (Yes maam!) What you did has a connection to our new
lesson. Today, we will discuss about polygons. Let us first know what a polygon is.
POLYGON
Comes from the two Greek words

POLY
means
many

GON
means

is a closed figure formed by at least

three line segments.
The line segmenyts are the sides of
the polygon while points of
intersection of these segments are

Polygons are classified according to the number of their sides as shown in the table.

E. Generalization
Did you understand our lesson? (Yes maam!) For me to know if you really had
understood the lesson, we will have another activity. What can you see on the board?
(Strip of words, phrases) These words and phrases are key words to be remembered.
Today, we will make a concept map.

Now, we will have another activity. Each group will have an envelope. Inside are
directions to follow. You will only have 5 minutes to make the activity. Additional points to the
first group to finish.
