GPS Tracker Quick Start Guide

Steps to get your tracker working out of the box:

1. Place a GSM SIM card in the tray provided in the tracker. Make sure that the SIM card
has credit (its going to need to be able to send you SMS text messages), and make sure
youve turned off voicemail on that account.

2. Create a contact in your mobile phone with the number of the GSM SIM card thats in
your tracker. This will make it easy to send commands to the tracker.

3. Mount the tracker where it wont be easy for someone to find.

4. Before connecting external power, slide the battery switch over so that the unit powers
up without external power. This is so that it will continue to operate from the internal
rechargeable battery even if the external power is disconnected.

5. Connect the black cable to battery ve, either directly or through the vehicle earth.

6. Connect the red cable (with its in-line fuse) to battery +ve, either directly or by
connecting into another circuit. It should be an always on circuit, and its up to you
whether you connect to the main starter battery or the leisure battery, but note that
the tracker will drain the battery after a long period without charging.

7. Mount the GPS antenna where it will get a good view of the sky, so it can see enough
of the GPS satellites, and route the antenna cable to the tracker. The antenna can see
through glass and fibreglass, but not so well through a metal roof.

8. Mount the GSM antenna where it will get a good GSM signal, and route the antenna
cable to the tracker. Positioning for this is less critical than for the GPS antenna, as it
will generally work anywhere inside the vehicle.

9. Go through the following sequence of commands to set up the tracker. Note that all
commands need to include the device password. This is set to 123456 by default, and
youll probably want to change this. Lets assume youll change it to 888888 as per
the example in the supplied instruction booklet.

i.
Initialisation
Send the following SMS to the tracker:
begin123456
The tracker should send the reply begin ok

ii.

Authorise your phone (to make yours the only phone that can issue
commands to the tracker)
Send the following SMS to the tracker:
admin888888 <your phone number>
The tracker should send the reply admin ok

Set the time zone
Send the following SMS to the tracker:
time zone888888 0
The tracker should send the reply time ok
The number at the end of the above command indicates the difference between
local time and GMT. In the UK this is 0 in the winter and 1 in summer.

Check the status of your tracker
Send the following SMS to the tracker:
check888888
The tracker should send a reply including information about external power,
the internal battery, GPRS, GSM and GPS signal status, and the ACC and Door
circuit status.

If you want to just see where the tracker is, you can do this in two different
ways:
i. Call the tracker from your mobile phone. After two or three rings the
tracker will answer and then immediately hang up, and will then send
you an SMS with the trackers coordinates and a link to a Google maps
page.
ii. Send the following SMS to the tracker:
fix010s001n888888
The tracker will reply with an SMS with the trackers coordinates and a
link to a Google maps page.

The above steps will get a basic installation working, and should be considered the minimum
you need to go through. There are various other commands that make use of additional
features of the tracker. These are all covered in the supplied booklet, and once you have the
basic install working they are easy enough to experiment with.

Some notes:
- The tracker will not send useful position fixes until it is successfully tracking enough
GPS satellites. This may take a few minutes after it is initially switched on, and it may
lose track of the satellites if you are in a tunnel or garage, or under dense tree cover
etc. If you have mounted your GPS antenna near a window, then note that this will
normally mean that it will only see half the sky. In the UK, the northern half of the sky
is less well covered with GPS satellites than the southern half.
- The tracker wont do anything useful if it doesnt have GSM coverage for your selected
provider. There will likely be some remote areas where this is the case. If youre
taking the vehicle abroad, remember to make sure that roaming is enabled on that
account.
- Its useful to get a SIM card that allows you to top it up without having to remove it
from the tracker and put it in a phone handset.
