Precautions:
Avoid eye area and direct contact with eyes, lips, and nostrils. Do not work on irritated or damaged skin. If severe
irritation or rash appears during or after facial, discontinue use and if the condition persists for more than 24 hours,
consult a doctor. Keep all products out of the reach of children. Follow all instructions concerning frequency and
timing. Do not work on certain skin conditions or in conjunction with other exfoliating products (both physical and
chemical). Always perform a 24 hour patch test.
Sunburn Alert:
This product may increase the skins sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Apply a
sunscreen and advise your client to apply sunscreen daily and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a
minimum of two weeks afterwards.

Epicurens Beginning
The fundamental science behind the Epicuren Discovery enzyme technology is derived from
pharmaceutical enzyme research performed over 30 years ago on severely scarred burn victims. After
observing the results achieved on traumatized skin through this enzyme technology, Epicuren realized
its potential for achieving and maintaining healthy skin. We took the core theory behind its success and
created the Metadermabolic Enzyme Protein Complex.
Throughout our lives, the inside of our mouths never show signs of aging. This is made possible because
of a unique protein enzyme solution found in the cheeks lining. This enzyme solution allows the mouth
to heal rapidly when damaged and to resist the effects of aging. When microscopically analyzed, scientists
discovered these enzymes offered a natural and constant cellular regeneration: the ageless skin cell.

THE DIFFERENCE THE METADERMABOLIC ENZYME
Epicurens Metadermabolic Enzyme is the heart of the Epicuren line. This enzyme is a protein that is
combined with a waterborne solution of B Vitamins to create a protein with intelligence.
The geometric shape of an enzyme determines its function. This particular shape is important in that
enzymes can only combine with molecules of a complementary shape. The shape of Epicurens
Metadermabolic Enzyme is most similar to human enzymes. The skin recognizes it as friendly, or familiar,

Primary Skin Functions

Protection Fat cells found in the hypodermis guard the muscles, bones, ligaments, and vital organs from
injuries and trauma. Melanin is produced to protect the skin and body from UV radiation, and the stratum
corneum provides a barrier from harmful pathogens.
Heat Regulation The combination of constricted blood vessels, sweat, and fat cells control the body
temperature regardless of the outside climate.
Absorption Some water, fat, and oil based substances are able to penetrate the epidermis topically.
Excretion Salts and small amounts of waste are excreted through sweat.
Secretion Sebaceous glands secrete sebum which contains lipids and free fatty acids. Sebum plays an
imperative role in maintaining the health and moisture of the skin.
Sensation There are a variety of nerve endings in the dermis that allow us to feel pressure, heat, cold,
touch, and injury.
Water Resistance The skin provides a water resistant barrier to prevent the loss of essential nutrients.
Layers of the Epidermis

Stratum Germinativum (Basal Layer) Keratinocyte stem cells continually undergo cell division (mitosis)
creating daughter cells; these daughter cells travel through the layers of the epidermis, the cells that
remain will continue to replenish the basal layer. Melanocytes are produced to aid in preventing UV
radiation and guard against indirect DNA damage responsible for skin cancer.
Stratum Spinosum (Spiny Layer) Cells form desmosomes to bind adjacent cells together. Keratinization
(cellular death) begins in this layer.
Stratum Granulosum (Granular Layer) Keratin proteins are formed; lipids are produced to form a
hydrophobic barrier to prevent moisture loss.
Stratum Lucidum (Clear Layer) A thick layer of dead cells located only in areas that need more protection
(soles of feet and palms).
Stratum Corneum This layer resembles a brick wall, with stacked flat, dead protein or keratin filled
cells (corneocytes). Each of the cells are surrounded by hydrophobic lamellar lipids comprised mainly of
cholesterol and free fatty acids. Together, this forms the NMF (Natural Moisture Factor) which helps
prevent inflammation and loss of hydration. The Stratum Corneum is the first line of defense against UV
rays, filtering out 80% of UVB exposure.
The dermis is the layer just beneath the epidermis. Within the dermis are two layers the papillary layer
and the reticular layer. 10 40 times thicker than the epidermis, the dermis is primarily made up of collagen
(strengthening fibers), elastin (elasticity fibers), and fibroblasts (cells that produce connective fibers such
as collagen and elastin which make up the extracellular matrix). Also located in the dermis are the oil and
sweat glands, hair follicles, blood vessels, and nerves.
The epidermis is the outer, non-vascular layer of the skin that covers the dermis. It provides waterproofing
and serves as a barrier against inhospitable environments. Cells are formed through cell division (mitosis)
and travel through the epidermis as they fill with keratin and eventually die, a process called Keratinization.

Professional Peel Recommended Protocol Check List
Taking the following steps will ensure maximum results from your professional peel treatments. These
are suggested guidelines to protect your clients and your best interest.
In the rare event of a complication during the treatment, immediately neutralize the skin with the
Restore Peel Neutralizer and apply cool Epicuren Silver Ion Mask, or cool compress.
In the rare event of a post-treatment complication, discuss their symptoms; if their symptoms seem
severe, such as a chemical burn or allergic reaction, refer them to a medical professional immediately. If
their symptoms seem mild or slightly abnormal request the client come in to see you for a skin analysis.
Determine whether or not they are experiencing a normal response to a professional peel. If it is an
abnormal response find out exactly what happened between the treatment and the reaction. Ask what
products they are using on their skin, and if anything came into contact with their skin (i.e. too much
heat from shower or cooking, or a scratch from a baby or pet). It may be possible that the home-care
regime is too active and they may need to scale back on what they are using at home to include only the
Epicuren Aloe Vera Calming Gel and Epicuren Milk Cleanser. When in doubt, always refer the client
to a medical professional.

Perform a thorough skin analysis, after cleansing the skin.
Go over all Professional Peel Forms (Consultation Form, Consent Form, Contraindications, Peel
Preparation, and Post Care), explain the importance of discontinuing the use of certain medications,
avoiding UV rays, proper use of home-care products directly after treatment(s), the feelings and
sensations that may occur during and after the treatment(s), and answer all questions and concerns
they may have.
Always perform a 24 hour patch test for all products look for any type of abnormal reactions
including but not limited to, excessive redness, itching, blistering, or pain.
Every time a professional peel is performed, the client must sign and date the Consent Form. An oral
agreement is NOT sufficient for your protection.
Lay out a recommended customized treatment plan including professional treatment schedule, post
care, and recommended home-care regime to achieve the desired results.
Take photos of the clients skin to track results of improvement of skin condition(s); take photos in 3
month intervals.
During the treatment, very carefully monitor the clients skin on a second-by-second basis.
Do not perform overly aggressive treatments.
Document all steps performed during peel treatment (i.e. which professional peel was used, how
many layers, length of time the peel is left on the skin, all products used during treatment and all
recommended instructions and home-care products).
Send the client home with precise post-care instructions.
Book a follow-up appointment for 1 week after professional peel treatment.

9. Peel Removal
OPTION 1 - Neutralize - To neutralize, using a fan brush or cotton pad, apply a generous
(quarter-sized) amount of Restore Peel Neutralizer directly over all areas of the skin that peel was
applied, starting at the forehead and ending at the dcollet. Avoid the eye and lip areas. Once
neutral pH has been restored, remove using cool water and cotton pads or towels. For added
calming effects, leave Restore Peel Neutralizer on the skin as a mask for up to five minutes, then
remove as described above.

10. Escort the guest to the shower. Leave them a fresh robe and slippers. Let them know you will escort
them back to the treatment room when they are done with their ten minute shower.
11. While the guest is showering, dispose of any soiled towels. The table should be left with two clean
sheets, one on top of the other. Meet your guest and take them back to the treatment room. Ask them
to lie face up between the two sheets while you step out of the room.

The following conditions are considered to be contraindications for chemical peel procedures. Please
circle any conditions that you are currently or have previously experienced and list any additional health
concerns in the area below.
Use of Accutane, Retin-A, or other medications that exfoliate or thin the skin within 6 months
Recent cosmetic surgery, laser resurfacing, deep or medium depth chemical peels or dermabrasion
Severe rosacea or acne
Easily scars or has hyper-pigmentation tendencies
Pregnancy always consult with your obstetrician prior to receiving chemical peels

Professional Peel Preparation Instructions

In order to receive maximum results from your peel, please follow the guidelines listed below:

Refrain from any type of UV exposure (tanning booth or direct sun exposure) for 10 days prior to
your peel.
Do not wax or have any type of hair removal treatment for 1 week before your peel.
Allow 2-5 days after any type of injectable such as Botox, collagen, or other dermal fillers.
Do not have any form of chemical peel, microdermabrasion, or laser treatment for 2-4 weeks prior
to your appointment.
Stop using medications such as Retin-A, Tazorac, Renova, Accutane, Differin, Avage, or
any high percentage glycolic acid products for 1 week prior to your peel (always consult with your
prescribing doctor prior to temporarily discontinuing the use of prescription medication).
Discontinue the use of aggressive scrubs and exfoliating products 1 week prior to your peel.
If you are pregnant, lactating or think you may be pregnant, always consult with your obstetrician
prior to receiving professional treatments.
Use your Epicuren home-care products as recommended by your doctor or aesthetician to properly
prepare your skin.
This effective professional peel is intended to result in little or no downtime. Slight redness, tightness,
peeling, flaking and/or dryness are normal and temporary.

disclosing any medical conditions I have that may affect my treatment, including, but
not limited to: pregnancy, recent facial surgery or injectables, allergies, tendency to
cold sores and/or fever blisters, and/or use of prescription products including, but not

and lifestyle will affect the outcome of my treatment, and that it may be necessary

particularly the possibility of sunburn. I will apply a sunscreen with a minimum of
SPF 20 daily, and avoid sun exposure and/or tanning booths immediately following

performed the treatment for guidance.
I understand that I may or may not experience slight or noticeable peeling of the

I have not had and will not have any other chemical peel, microdermabrasion, or
laser treatment of any kind within 14 days BEFORE OR AFTER this treatment.
I have received a 24 hour patch test and the result is negative, or my clinician has
suggested a 24 hour patch test and I have declined.

It is recommended to allow the skin to rest and normalize overnight after a professional peel.
However, if it is absolutely necessary, you may apply make up after a 15 minute period.
If the skin begins to peel or flake, do not pull or pick at the skin, this may cause trauma or
hyperpigmentation.
Do not apply ice or ice cold water directly to the treated areas.
Do not exercise or participate in activities that will cause perspiration.
Avoid excessive heat including: baths, showers, hot tubs, steam rooms, and saunas.
Do not use abrasive scrubs or exfoliation of any kind.
Post Treatment Suggestions 1-14 days
Avoid all forms of direct UV exposure and excessive heat for at least 2 weeks. Apply sun protection
with a minimum of SPF 15 every 2 hours
Do not go to a tanning booth for at least 3 weeks.
Discontinue the use of Retin-A, Accutane, Differin, Tazorac, or Avage for at least 5 7
days post treatment (always consult with your prescribing doctor prior to temporarily discontinuing
the use of prescription medications).
Do not have any form of microdermabrasion, chemical peel, or laser treatment for a minimum of
14 days.
Do not have injectables, waxing, electrolysis, and/or use depilatories for a minimum of 2 5 days.
Maintenance
At this time you may begin using a customized skin care regime of Epicuren products that your clinician
determines are indicated for achieving your desired result.
Epicuren Professional Peels are not recommended to be applied more than every 7-14 days (depending
on sensitivity and skin condition).
I understand that after receiving this professional peel, my skin may be more sensitive than normal. I agree
to follow the instructions provided by my clinician.
