Course Implementation: (Day 4 November 5, 2015 Thursday)

Day 4 of the course CILC participants, I was at the venue (BPC school) 30 minutes before the
start time. The computer laboratory was opened at exactly 8:00 AM and participants are
coming from different places, we have two representatives from DOST ICT that checks the
attendance and prepares the materials and foods for the event.
I have started my discussion before 9:00 AM since all the participants are already there. I ask
the participants about previous topics they have discussed just to review them since it was
the prerequisite of the topic I will be discussing. I started discussing Topic 1 (See Attached
Topic Outline) and allowing the participants to open their computers and test each
instruction I am referring to in the software Microsoft Excel.
We have finished discussing Topics 1 and 2 and I have given them an Exercise / Activity 1
(Grading System) to be completed using the Excel software. Morning Snacks were served at
10:00 AM but since the participants are interested and willing to learn the Excel, we are still
doing the activity while having break. After completing the Activity 1, I have started
discussing Topics 3 and 4 and stopped at past 12:00 NN to have the Lunch Break.
We started afternoon session at 1:00 PM, Topic 5 was discussed and I have given them
Exercise / Activity 2 (Payroll System), since the activity deals more of computations using
Formula and Functions, participants were not able to finish it on time.

Past 3:00 PM the Afternoon Snack was given to the participants, they were still completing
the activity. We started to discuss Topic 6 so that their output will be enhanced or improved
using the different styles or formats in Excel. I have instructed the participants to review all our
discussions since I have prepared an Exam / Test (in PDF format) and Answer Sheet (in Excel
format) that will automatically check their answers and what scores or grade they got.
We were lucky to be visited by our Cluster Director, Madam Cheryl C. Ortega just to see if the
participants were doing fine and how the training was conducted so far. We wrap up or end
the discussion past 5:00 PM and I have told the participants that I am quite surprise because
they were all eager to learn despite of age is concern. We were not able to finish all the
topics because 1 day is not enough to cover all the topics and contents of Excel. I would
suggest that it could be 2 to 3 days for them to learn the basic of Microsoft Excel.
Activities and Results:
Activities were completed only by 90% of the participants, because some have difficulties in
using the Keyboard and Mouse, difficulty in looking at the Screen / Monitor. Out of 30
participants 5 of them were fast enough to do the exercise and shows previous knowledge
about Microsoft Excel.
Lessons Learned / Suggestions:
I would like to suggest if the number of days for Microsoft Excel could be made 2 to 3 days.
Perhaps also we could include modules or topics about Basic Computer Keyboarding or
Typing so that participants are equipped enough for the next topics. Next time, I will make
sure to get information of the participants (age) in advance. I will prepare and print several
activities / handouts for the participants.
Conclusions / Recommendations:
Overall the activity and discussions in Day 4 were success, participants shows much interest in
the topic and learn basic of the Microsoft Excel. There might not be enough time or day but
still they were able to learn and equip themselves with new knowledge.
I would like to take this opportunity to give thanks to DOST ICT and the organizers of Digital
Literacy Cluster 2 and to our Cluster Director for inviting me and giving me chance and be
part of your project Spreading Digital Literacy the Filipinos. I strongly believe that
Everything in this World Can Be Learned, regardless of the age and status in life we will be
able to do something and make difference. My congratulations to all the participants that
finished the Module or Course CILC and get their Certificates, God Speed!
