Overcoming Poor Black Health 3

Overcoming poor Black health requires communicating the following health issues to
African Americans:

 Energy and the Body

 Not All Nutritional Needs Are the Same
 What Hormones Do
 The Mighty Pineal Gland
 We Got Melanin
 Diet Guide
 An African Holistic Health System

Energy and the Body

Anthony Browder discusses energy and body relationships in Survival Strategies for
Africans in America, pp. 81, “The energy that flows into and though our body is
regarded as a gift from the Creator. When energy flowing through our bodies
moves with ease, we experience good health. If that energy flow is disrupted, we
experience dis-ease, and become ill. Illness can affect us physically, mentally,
socially, and spiritually. It must be understood if we are to attain optimal
performance from our bodies.

A mind that has been infused with creative energy is a powerful force. Its
influence on the body, on other minds, and external circumstances is unlimited.
Consciousness is one manifestation of the mind, and it represents a small fraction
of the awesome power that is contained within. A mind and body that work in
harmony with the spirit that directs them is capable of achieving infinite
possibilities.

The ancient traditions of meditation and yoga were designed to teach people how to
unite the energies within their mind and body so that they will come to know their
higher spiritual selves. The acknowledgement of a consciousness that transcends
physical consciousness opens a mind to limitless possibilities. These possibilities
then allow you to exercise many more options to successfully overcome and avoid
the difficulties in life”.

Not all Nutritional Needs Are the Same

What nourishes one body may be harmful to another. Groups of people with a non-
melanated physiology (Caucasians) have nutritional needs that are different from a
group with melanated physiology (Africans). When the specific needs of a group
are not met, they will be incapable of cultivating their divine talents and will engage
in a passionate dance with disaster. You must become aware of the needs of your
African body and the steps that must be taken in order for you to live a truly
meaningful life.

If Africans are to live more productive and meaningful lives, we must become
keenly aware of our strengths and weaknesses. There are certain substances that
can be consumed by Europeans but are detrimental to Africans. We must identify
such substances and avoid them. On the other hand, we must identify and consume
substances that optimize the performance of our African bodies.

What Hormones Do

Hormones act as a means of communication among various parts of an organism.

They act as chemical messengers that help these parts function together in a
coordinated way. Hormones control such body activities as growth development,
and reproduction . . . if an organism fails to produce the proper kind or amount of
hormones serious disturbances – or even death - may result.

Most hormones in the body are produced by organs called endocrine (ductless)
glands. They secrete hormones into the bloodstream, which distributes them
throughout the body. When a hormone arrives at the designation of the specific
organ or tissue it affects, it causes specific actions to occur.

Our thoughts trigger the release of hormones that flow into our blood system and
affect us in many different ways. In this way, our thoughts are capable of
affecting our internal organs, our behavior, and the behavior of others. When we
focus our thoughts, we gain power. That power can be used to enhance or worsen
our lives.

The Mighty Pineal Gland

The pineal gland, which was once considered a vestige organ, is now acknowledged as

the “master” gland” in the body – It secretes hormones that affect the secretion
of hormones in the other endocrine glands.

In, From the Browder File, pp. 95 – 95, Anthony Browder states, “How does one
communicate with the dead? It occurs naturally when you sleep. Every person alive
has had a dream, at some time or another, in which they have spoken with a
deceased relative or friend who offered them guidance or direction on problems
they were facing.

How is it possible to see in your dreams? How is it possible to see with your two
eyes closed? It is possible because when you sleep you see with your “inner eye”. In
some traditions, this “inner eye” is called the “third eye”, the eye of clairvoyance.
Other traditions refer to this eye as the pineal gland.

When you sleep the pineal gland secretes the hormone melatonin (primarily during
the hours of 2 a.m. to 6 p.m.) which literally bathes the brain, thus creating the
chemical condition necessary for “inner vision” to take place”.

Throughout the ages, the actions of the pineal gland have been associated with
being the main processing center that distributes information throughout the rest
of the body. The myths of Tehuti, Thoth, Hermes, and Mercury were all derived
from the actions of the Pineal gland in the body.

Within traditional African societies and in numerous cultures throughout the world,
people still celebrate adolescence – the transition of a child into adulthood that
begins at puberty. This period is marked by an onslaught of pineal gland hormonal
activity that produces dramatic physical changes in the bodies of males and
females. A rite of passage was usually initiated in the thirteenth year of life and
prepared youth for the beginning of a mental, physical, and spiritual metamorphosis
into adulthood.

A rite of passage was essential if youth were to learn how to function as adults and
sustain the harmony, integrity, and stability of the village. The idea of an entire
village raising a child is not a worn out cliché, it is a fact of life.”
Over the years, people have forgotten the connection between the Pineal gland,
Tehuti, Thoth, and Hermes, and rites of passage. Unfortunately, those who have
forgotten the importance of the rites of passage will produce children to whom life
has no value or meaning.

In terms of family health, we must raise our children thoughtfully, protect them in
their youth, and prepare them for adulthood. As Browder says, in Survival
Strategies for Africans in America, pp. 73, “If it takes a village to raise a child, it
takes culture to sustain a village. Where there is no culture, there is no village, and
the people will perish”.

We Got Melanin
Research now shows that melanin is more than just a pigment that gives color to our
hair, skin, and eyes. It is also found in our heart, liver, nerves, muscles, intestines
and in 12 locations of our brain. Derivatives of melanin can also be found in our
blood, our hormones, and our cerebral spinal fluid.

Melanin is a total system unto itself. It is the substance responsible for our very
existence. It is a healer, a drug, an energy absorber, and an organizer of major
body functions.

Undeniably, melanin is viewed as the “giver of life”. Melaninated cells formed the
brain and spinal cord in every person alive. It is present and supervises the growth
of both sperm and egg during fetus development.

Although every person on earth has varying amount of melanin in their bodies, the
key is that some have more than others do. African Americans have greater
melanin concentrations at more sites in their bodies than any other race of people
on earth.

The darker the skin, the more melanin is present and the less it ages from sunlight
exposure. Scientifically speaking Black skin is more efficient in screening out
harmful ultraviolet light than White skin.

The black, light-absorbing molecule called melanin is recognized as one of the

primary keys of life. Melanin is what makes people human. Melanin connects people

to the creative forces of the universe. It is ironic: the sun is life-giver, but for
people who lack melanin, the sun means death.

Although melanin remains a mystery to scientists, we know that it is influenced by

the electro-magnetic field of the earth, by light waves and sound vibrations. Darker
people, with higher concentrations of melanin in their bodies and melanin’s magnetic
properties are more in tune with nature.

Melanin has numerous physiological influences on the body. Furthermore, it has

been found to be the primary component in the creation and maintenance of the
human race.

Diet Guide

Dr. Lliaia Afrika describes a Diet Guide in, African Holistic Health, pp.85:

“Human nutrition is often put into the relationships of acids and akalines. Acid
foods usually have a sour after-taste. They cause deterioration or are corrosive by
nature. Alkalines are non-acid and make an acid solution weak. The acid-alkaline
ration in the body is usually measured in terms of PH. A PH scale of (1 – 14)
indicated that 1 – 7 is acidic, 7 is neutral, and 7 – 14 is alkaline. Every body part has
its own PH, such as the vagina, stomach, skin, feet and mouth.

Foods are oxidized (burned) in the body. Digested (burned) foods leave a waste
matter called ash. Further, the ash can be neutral (7.0), acid (1 to 7) or alkaline (7
to 14). The objective of nutrition is to keep the acids and alkalines in balance
(proper ratio) and avoid acid ash.

The normal ratio for acid-alkaline varies with the type of diet. The junk food,
animal flesh eater’s diet is the highest acid diet. It is the most destructive and
creates numerous dis-eases.

The flesh eater’s and health food diet is the second highest with the vegetarian
diet having the lowest acid levels. . . . However, the healthiest acid-alkaline levels
for the human are 4 to 1 or 80% alkaline and 20% acid. Conforming to an alkaline –
acid diet close to this ratio gives optimal health”.

Acidic foods consist of poultry, seafood, eggs, most nuts, legumes alcohol, nicotine
and all synthetic foods are acid. All fresh fruits and vegetables are alkaline. They
have a high content of magnesium, sodium, calcium and potassium.

An African Holistic Health System

Anthony Browder in, Survival Strategies for Africans in America, points out, “Our
bodies comprise many systems: reproductive, circulatory, digestive, and others,
that must all work individually and collectively to achieve the state of wholeness we
call health. Many Western –trained healers, physicians, psychiatrists, dentists, and
others, are just beginning to acknowledge holistic approaches to health that have
been practiced in other cultures for thousands of years.

Traditional African healing is holistic and is based on the healers’ understanding of

the interrelationship of a person’s mind, body, and spirit, and how they interact
with nature and the universe. The Europeans, or Western approach of health, is
predicated on the belief that the mind is separate from the body, and the soul is
nonexistent because it cannot be seen, weighed, or measured. Such an approach to
medicine considers that body to be unaffected by universal forces.”

In Nutricide: The Nutritional Destruction of the Black Race, pp. 57, Dr. Liaila
Afrika says, “An African holistic health system has the following principles and
requirements:

 Spiritual rejuvenation
 Disease and death are abnormal
 The body is self-healing
 Live foods (uncooked) for live people, herbs for medicine
 Sunshine daily, deep breathing, exercise, trance (meditation)
 Cyclic laws must be followed (i.e. eating, birth, exercise, male/female
principles, etc.)
 Communal life
 Clean (unpolluted) air, water, soil, food, people (vaccinations) etc.
 Maat (means living according to Truth, Justice, Propriety, harmony, Balance,
Reciprocity and Order) in relationships with nature and people.
 [Keep] African focus
