Exercise 1
6.1 What is understood with the term NO CURE NO PAY
The term NO CURE NO PAY is a salvage contract which a salver receives a proportion of
the salved value but if there is no recovery there will be no payment.
6.2 Give an answer to the following questions:
1.Box 1 (in LOF 2011) What is meant with the concept Salvage Contractors and
which are their fundamental responsibilities according to the contract LOF 2011.
Salvage Contractors are the contractors who carry out the salvage with the
agreed party.
The contractors identified in Box 1 are agree to use their best effort to save the
property specified in Box 2
2.Box 2 What is meant with Agreed place of safety and what shall be done if this
item is left open.
Agreed place of safety:- means the place where the owner wants his property moved
after the contractors salvaged it.If item left empty then the contractors shall take the
property to a place of safety.
3 Item F Explain what is stipulated in the item F of the salvage contract regarding
Duties of property owners in the paragraphs (i), (ii) and (iii).
i. the contractors may use the machineries and gears on-board for the salvage
process.
ii. the contractors shall be entitled to or may need the vessel or/and the remainder
of the property.
iii. the owner of the property shall cooperate fully with the contractors about
agreed safe place.
4.Which legalization shall be valid if there arises disputes between the salvor and the
ship owner. Where in the contract will you find an answer to this problem?
By the English Law and it is stipulated in the item J of LOF

Exercise 2
1. Explain how a towcabel should be connected to a disable vessel from an oceangoing
tug in accordance to what is written in the book in the chapter 7.3 CONNECTING
THE TOW and how the towcable should be make fast on the disable vessel.
Connection will normally be made by passing a light line like heaving line using this
to take on board a messenger , which in turn will be used to pass a tow line between
the ships.
2. Draw a sketch ofFIGURE 3 and insert in this sketch the corresponding parts.

3. What is told in chapter 7.4 COMMENCING TOWING on how to begin the towing
operation and in which direction the tug should pull?
Commencing towing begin with a continuous radio communication between the ships
and a towing ship should start under a control by beginning the tow into the wind.
Exercise 4
How much water (m 3 /hour) will flow into the ships hull through a broken welding
seam (rupture) which according to the divers report is 3 meters long and 6
millimetres wide. The hole or rupture is situated 6 meters below the water level.
