No matter we like it or not, we have to admit that we are adopting

some of the European values which had been promoted by western European
countries for a long time now. Its obvious that it all started with the
enlargement of the European Union, whose founding members were already
interconnected through some ethics and have been trying to inspire other
countries to adhere to those values and get aligned to these new standards.
However it is still doubted if EUs motto, in varietate concordia, means
really what it wants to mean and does not make us forget about traditions,
customs and everything that makes us a part of a nation. Understandably,
elderly persons refuse to agree with the youth on some aspects for fear of
losing our identity. Here comes in the perspective from which we consider
things. Old persons who have lived throughout hard times have an insight to
the past whilst those younger were born during an era of change, being
molded by new standards and with an insight to the future, understanding
this change better than anybody else as a result of the information flow we
are used to nowadays.

The values Europeans are bound to promote not only among Europe
but also on all the other continents if possible are human dignity, equality,
democracy, respect for human rights which are warranted through laws and
freedom which could not be developing more because it is mainly alimented
by freedom of speech. Everyone has
the right to voice their opinion and be
supported by those with similar beliefs
and with the advent of technology its
never been simpler. Internet and other
networks are and will remain the
ultimate method of communication
and also our finest weapon. This is the
place where when a group of people who feel their rights were violated
gather and they really do in large numbers. As can be seen in the picture to
the right there is a huge involvement of young people as they are the main
user of this way of communicating.
Since we live in Europe, and our country adhered to the union more or
less time ago we are not only Romanian, Bulgarian, Spanish, German,
French, so on and so forth citizens anymore, but we also get European
citizenship which is by any means superior. This being said, you have the
option to live anywhere in Europe and be treated as a part of that community
and you are entitled to some rights some individuals can only dream of. As
we are taught in school about our own state, its high time we learn about
our greater mother land, about its most iconic personalities, about its all
spiritual and material values. The children in the picture to the left are
learning about Mozart, how could one dislike his compositions? A word can
define all those united and that is culture, apparently a simple short word but
with gargantuan significance. How else could we get thorough knowledge
about the place we live in other than spreading the information and getting
to communicate with those who live far from us but not far enough to be

radically different in matters of culture? It is true that some of the youngsters

have a negative attitude towards culture being biased by their own nation
but you cant just hate European
art,

masterpieces

and

other

interesting customs and those will

probably get accustomed to being
exposed to this culture that they will
reconsider in no time.
All in all, it seems there is a vast
majority of young people who are
going to assure the continuity of these values which were substantiated in
the past by visionaries with an unsuitable vision for the times they lived in.
Culture in Europe, similarly, is something well never forget about, with it
being presented in institutions, mainly schools and also the fact that
intellectuals, or persons of tomorrow who are interested in broadening their
knowledge are being born today. It is of the utmost importance that in the
distant future well keep what makes us be recognized with ease as a
continent and deny the worldwide uniformization.
