CRITICAL
STUDIES on
SECURITY

Security is one of the defining features of our,

or any, time. Collectively we seek security, value
security, desire security, while at the same time often
being troubled by the actions that are taken in the
name of our security. Critical Studies on Security is an
international, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the study
of security in and through social critique. The journal aims
to publish theoretically informed scholarship, which engages
with the practice and politics of security.
We welcome research articles from or across the range
of disciplines, and from any of the critical social
theoretical positions.
In addition to general research articles the journal will
also house an innovative section within each issue titled
Interventions. This section will publish shorter pieces that
explore the practices, politics and pedagogy of security
from a range of theoretical perspectives.
Interventions pieces may take any of the following forms;
reviews or media analysis (book, tv series, films, art exhibitions,
photography etc.); engagements with pedagogy or learning
and teaching in security; comments on current events;
interviews (with academics, policy-makers, policy-advisors,
activists etc); fiction, poetry, or creative writing.

Submissions

Papers for consideration should be

submitted electronically as a Word
document to the editors at
csos@yorku.ca.
Interventions pieces should be
submitted electronically as a Word
document to the section editor at
L.J.Shepherd@unsw.edu.au.
Authors may also contact the editors
with proposals for special issues
and themed Interventions sections.
Research Articles should range
between 5,000 and 8,000 words
including references.
Interventions pieces should range
between 1,000 and 2,000 words.
