Howl.ween Parties a Howling Success!

Over 40 children attended the Childrens party held on
Saturday, October 31st at La Cabana where there were
games, activities and treats. Later that evening a high
spirited group of 60 or more costumed adults partied
and danced to the live music. The Adults party was a
fundraiser which covered the cost of the childrens
party which was free to all participants.
Join us next year for the Howl.ween fun!

Fleischmanns Then
Making a Living in Fleischmanns
As the nineteenth century waned, and the twentieth century dawned and advanced, the advent of machinery meant people had more leisure time. A vast
array of entertainment options, both for local residents in Fleischmanns and
for the guests at the many hotels here, grew. The New Mountain Casino was
built and although the name implies gambling, it was an amusement hall.
The Maxbilt Theatre, built in 1929, replaced an earlier building that burned
in 1928. Later known as Whipple's, first-run movies were shown there for
many years. Efforts are currently underway to restore that structure, and
new windows have recently been installed. The marquee is in storage but
will be brought back after the current work is completed. Planning for new
uses for the building will be underway soon so that it meets the different
entertainment and amusement needs of the twenty-first century.

Fleischmanns Maple Festival to be First Scenic Byway Designated event!

We are adding new events and activities to celebrate the great tradition of maple tapping and making Maple
Syrup in the Fleischmanns area. Fleischmanns First in conjunction with Skene Memorial Library and the
Fleischmanns Museum of Memories are planning a day of programming for kids and adults as part of the new
augmented Maple Festival which will be held Saturday, April 2nd and Sunday, April 3rd.
Do you have any images of tapping and information on Maple Tapping and Sugar-making both in the past
and now, both commercial and for home use? Have any old brochures for the past Maple Festivals of the mid
20th century? We will copy them and return them to you.
Those with images and information to share are encouraged to contact John Duda. royalzrus@aol,com or 2544104.
