Curriculum Plan: ACTIVITY

(Non-Implemented)

ECDE Course _ED Tech_

Student Name Larry McNutt Developmental Area (5b) Technology
Activity Title (1a) Technology and Computers Number of children participating at one time 3-4
Ages 3-5
Note: This assignment is aligned with the current NAEYC 2010 Standards, notated by standard / section
number.
Consult the ECDE Curriculum Planning Manual for procedure and expectations in completing this
form. Activities written for previous classes cannot be re-used and must be the original work of
the student.
Observational
cues (3b):
What might be
observed that
indicates this
would be an
appropriate and
interesting
experience for
these children at
this time?

We are very interested in technology as a class. We have decided that we want

to spend some time learning about computers and technology. We understand
that these are not to be misused and abused and are ready to for the
responsibility.

Concepts (5b): 1.Computers are machines that follow our directions to do work, solve
(include two
problems, communicate with other people, and play games.
correspond to
objectives)

2. The memory is like a book and can hold pictures, words, videos, and games.

Objectives
(5b):
(include two
correspond to
concepts)
By participating
in this activity,
the child may
begin to:

Preparation of
materials and
environment

1. By participating in this activity the child may begin to identify that computers
can be used for multiple purposes in school and life.

2.By participating in this activity the child may begin to identify what the
computer memory stores.

What preparation is needed? We have begun by discussing computers and

Ipads in circle time and as a class we have a lot of questions. We have also
discussed the importance of how we should care for our technology and feel

(1a), (1c), (6b):

that we are ready for this big responsibility.

What materials will be used? The class has multiple computers and Ipads
available for our use at all times.

How will the learning environment be set up? I will first have a computer set up
in our group time area for examination and questions. Then throughout the
classroom over the next few weeks we will be incorporating more computers
and I pads into our classroom and daily routines.

Preparation of safe environment (1a), (1c):

Preventing problems and guidance concerns: The first concern is that the students understand
how to care for the technology responsibly. The next concern is informing our parents about what
we are going to learn about prior to our discussion. this is important so I can field any questions
they may have about ur learning objective.
Safety considerations:Normal classroom safety issues will be considered such as sharing and
taking turns. I will also be monitoring that we are using our computers correctly and not abusing
them.
How these will be addressed: I will address these issues prior to our beginning the computer
project as a class and then on an individual basis as needed.

Procedure (1c), (SS123):

Introduction/motivator (What you will actually say/do with to encourage childrens participation? Be
specific.) I know we all have seen computers in our lives and at home. Maybe some of us have already
used a computer at home and some have not. I know that we all have questions about this technology
and we should explore these question and get some answers. Lets see what we can learn over the
next few weeks about how we can use computers in our classroom.

Steps:
What will the teacher do/say? What will the children do during the activity? In the beginning I will
encourage questions and provide answers for exploring our new technology. This is where we will be
engaging in our simple investigation and then we will begin to share our ideas and I will help chart and
document our learning process and what new information we have learned about our computers. At this
time we will also be working as a class in groups to thinks about ways we can use computers in our
classroom to help us learn.
(Be sure to acknowledge how/when the concepts and objectives come to fruition in these steps.)

Open-ended Questions (Descriptive language statements for Infant/Toddler Plan):

Where else do we use computers? Have you used a computer before? Where? Can we use
computers in different ways? What ways can we use computers? How many computers can you cpount
at your house?
Scaffolding Comments: Lets look around today when we leave class and see if we can find
more computers outside of school. We can talk about these different computers next class.
What do computers do for us for fun?

Vocabulary: Technology, keyboard, program, CD/DVD, monitor, program, mouse, information,

graphics

Closing (1c):
Statement that
summarizes childrens
experience

Transition:
What will you do/say to
support children as they
finish this experience?

End of activity and

individual clean up:
What will you and/or the
children need to do to
clean up?

Ohio Early Learning

& Development
Standards (backmap)
(5c):

Now that we have begun to learn about computers I feel that we should be
using them more in our class to help us learn more. Lets continue using
computers and we can think of ways to use them daily in school.
For the rest of the year we will using our new technology to help us
learn in many different ways and with many different subjects. I am very
excited to learn about a lot of the new ways we can use this information
to help us learn and have fun.
There really is no clean-up for this project. I plan on introducing the
computers and then we will use them continuously in class as needed.
The students should understand the responsibility, how to care for and
put away our new technology correctly.
