Airfield Engineer (Civil )

Qualifications and Education:
The jobholder must be Bachelors in Engineering (Civil) or will have an equivalent professional
qualification in an engineering related discipline. Five years related experience and/or training or an
equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a formal qualification.
Experience:
At least 5 years experience in a similar environment and job role preferably related to Airfield
Infrastructure and Civil Works.
Training:
Certification required in any area for professional on-going development or for mandatory purposes.
Knowledge:

Knowledge of Engineering Maintenance in infrastructure and more specifically in the manoeuvring /

non- manoeuvring area of the Airport.
Knowledge of comprehensive Civil Engineering experience both within the conceptual engineering
and detailed design, construction and maintenance of heavy industrial structures like buildings,
highways, airfield and underground utilities. Management/leadership and administrative acumen to
execute multinational and multicultural resources.
Knowledge of AutoCAD, Micro Station, Path planner & MS office
Knowledge of using topography survey equipment.
Knowledge of local and international regulations and safety procedures.
Good oral and written communication skills

Job Description

1.

Assist the Organization in the evaluation and approval of the design reviews prepared by

consultants, cross-checking against operational requirements.

2. Review the work of contractors/consultants to ensure compliance with the contract requirements and
assist them the coordinated execution of the works.
3. Supervise the execution of foundation works for the runway/taxiways and Pavements
4. Follow up and monitor the execution of the construction work against the planned schedule to cover
timely execution and adherence to the schedule, and effective implementation of contract agreements.
5. Advise and assist Organization in ensuring proper quality time and cost control in respect to the above
work elements, and assist in the contract administration.

6. Organize work in the laboratory to ensure proper evaluation of soils, materials, and conformity with
provisions in contracts.
7. Supervise collection and testing of all soil/material samples and cross-check test results prepared by
contractors/consultants, and advise possible technical recommendations in works on expansive soils.
8. Oversee the maintenance and engineering of all equipment, facilities within Airfield Civil Works section
and the specific assigned area.
9. Develop and train the national counterpart in the project activities, the design of review work, the
supervision and the contractors administration works.
10. Develop formats for regular reporting on all activities of the project work, and the effective control of
laboratory results.
11. Prepare reports which will serve as basis for a proposal for rehabilitation and future development of
the airports.
13. Runway friction management by evaluation of pavements conditions index (PCI), surface integrity
index (SII), riding comfort index (RCI).
14. Conducting daily Runway, Taxiway& Apron Inspections
15. Maintaining Visual Aids and Surface marking as per statutory requirement for the flawless navigation
of aircraft and vehicles
16.Supervise the operation and maintenance of Civil installation including Runways ,Taxiways ,Apron, Service
roads , Runway& Taxiway strips ,Airside building ,drainage system etc.to ensure legal compliance with national
regulations and safety standards.
17.Managing Preventive ,Corrective & Emergency maintenance of all civil facilities
18. Attend and co-ordinate on regulators instructions , inspections & Audit s and act on maintaining Aerodrome
certification and other statutory requirements
18.Keeping abreast of legal issues involved in height restrictions within the airfield and surrounding airport , bird
striking and environmental regulation
19. Calculate declared distances for usable runway length during any emergency or maintenance work on
runway,
20. Conduct and supervise site surveys and record ,validate geographical co-ordinates
20.Attend any Emergencies ,training seminars, conferences, road shows and liaise with manufacturers and
suppliers in order to broaden current and future technical/engineering maintenance knowledge
21.Interact and coordinate with other operational departments, and contractors in the assigned area of work.
22. Perform other related duties as may be required.
