CALL TO WORSHIP
based on Psalm 100
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
We worship the Lord with gladness!
We come into Gods presence with singing!
We know this: you Most High are God.
You made us for yourself, and we are yours;
We are your people and the sheep of your pasture.
May we enter your gates with thanksgiving;
Let us come into your courts with praise;
let us give thanks to you and call upon your holy Name.
For you, O God, are good; your mercy is everlasting;
and your faithfulness endures from age to age.

King is your word, not mine;
Friend I am, and not very choosey,
pagans and prostitutes,
publicans and sinners,
grace is my kingdom.

King is your word, not mine;

Servant I am, no one beneath me,
feet washer and waiter,
serving the least,
love is my kingdom
King is your word, not mine;
Physician I am, all free of charge,

touching the leper,

expelling the demons,
wholeness is my kingdom.

King is your word, not mine;

A seer I am, seeing Gods word
in mustard seed and yeast,

wildflower and ravens,

truth is my kingdom.

King is your word, not mine;

Tradesman I am, honing my craft,
familiar with wood,
hammer and nails,
grace is my kingdom.

HEBREW SCRIPTURE
Jeremiah 23:5-6
The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will raise up for
David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely,
and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In his days
Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. And this is the name
by which he will be called: The Lord is our righteousness.
GOSPEL
John 18:33-40
So Pilate went back into the Praetorium and spoke to Jesus.
Are you the King of the Jews? he asked.
Was it your idea to ask that? asked Jesus. Or did other
people tell you about me?
Im not a Jew, am I? retorted Pilate. Your own people and
the chief priests have handed you over to me! Whatve you done?
My kingdom isnt the sort that grows in this world, replied
Jesus. If my Kingdom were from this world, my supporters would
have fought to stop me me being handed over to the authorities. So,
then, my kingdom is not the sort that comes from here.
So! said Pilate. You are a king, then?
Youre the one whos calling me a king. replied Jesus. I was
born for this; Ive come into the world for this: to give evidence to
the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.
Truth? said Pilate. What is truth?
With those words, he went back out to the hand-picked crowd.
I find no guilt in this man! he said to them. But look here:
youve got this custom that I should let someone free at Passovertime. So what about it? Would you like me to release your king of
the Jews?
No! they shouted. We dont want him! Give us Barabbas!
Now Barabbas was an insurrectionist.
