Every
fall
at
the
Frostburg
branch,
we
are
visited
by
incoming
Frostburg
State
students
who
are
interested
in
using
the
services
of
the
ACLS.
The
relationship
most
of
these
students
have
with
our
library
exists
solely
to
fulfill
the
needs
of
a
class
in
which
they
are
enrolled.
My
proposal
is
to
change
this
relationship
to
one
not
defined
by
academic
necessity
but
to
one
of
voluntary
patronization
of
our
branches
by
the
student.
I
believe
the
best
way
to
accomplish
this
is
by
introducing
the
students
to
the
ACLS
at
the
annual
Back
to
School
Picnic
at
the
beginning
of
the
semester.
I
feel
this
would
be
consistent
with
the
mission
statement
of
Allegany
County
Library
System
to
enrich
peoples
lives
by
providing
information,
materials,
services,
and
entertaining
programs
to
promote
our
community,
lifelong
learning,
and
opportunity
for
all.
Working
with
the
events
coordinator
at
Frostburg
State,
a
booth
manned
by
two
librarians
could
be
set
up
at
the
picnic.
The
booth
would
contain
welcome
brochures,
program
listings,
sample
materials
and
library
applications
for
students
to
complete.
This
would
allow
for
the
librarians
at
the
booth
to
showcase
our
system
and
give
a
tutorial
of
the
ACLS
website
while
registering
students
for
a
library
account.
My
proposal
would
also
include
repurposing
the
FSU
student
ID
as
a
library
card
rather
than
giving
students
a
new
card.
This
could
be
an
annual
event
which
would
not
require
additional
staffing
to
accomplish.
I
believe
this
would
greatly
increase
the
awareness
of
our
library
system
and
engender
an
improved
relationship
with
the
students
at
Frostburg
State
University.
