City Architecture Program

Need: This STEM and Beginning Entrepreneur Program helps children and youth adapt to the changing
world of technology and see their ideas become reality. During this program children and youth will
learn what is necessary to build a city and create 3D models. These models will be printed using a 3D
printer and combined to create a 3D printed city.
Potential Community Partners: The surrounding schools of the Largo-Kettering Library: Phyllis E.
Williams Elementary, Kettering Elementary, and Largo Middle School. The Largo-Kettering Library
Friends Group, Prince Georges County Planning Department, and Maryland Parks and Planning.
Steps Necessary for setting up the event: Computer laptop lab, three weeks dedicated to the program,
3D printer, and a meeting room.
How you will evaluate it: The number of participants, assessment of resources used, and level of
continued interest in the community through surveys and statistics.
Librarys Mission: PGCMLS mission is to engage, enrich, and illuminate. We will engage the community
by offering a way for the children to learn how they can create 3D models for 3D printing. We will enrich
children, youth, and adults by showcasing the potential of using a 3D printer and the positive outcomes
that include our future entrepreneurs. We will illuminate our community by having a 3D printer in
various Branches to give the community an opportunity to see something they may not have seen,
heard of, or known about.
