Introduction
This is an individual assignment designed to provide opportunity for independent
research into sustainable construction.
Tasks
Prepare a 7-minute Presentation demonstrating best practice in construction
relating to Environmental Management.
Students will prepare an A3 Poster to support their Powerpoint (or other means of
oral presentation), NOTE: The written submission may be as a PDF, DOC or PPT
format. Typically this should be between 1,000 and 2,000 words supported with
diagrams, charts, etc, as appropriate.
Use a current example and demonstrate understanding of the application of sustainability in
construction.
Students will be awarded marks for their originality, critical appraisal and the use of
academic language.
NOTE: Your Module Tutor may help to provide examples of projects that can
be examined to demonstrate best practice in construction.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this assessment exercise students will:
- Possess an understanding of the requirement for engineering activities to
promote sustainable development.
- Have a thorough awareness of current legislatory and governing guidelines in the
context of civil engineering projects including health and safety, quality
assurance, and environmental issues.
