INTRODUCTION
The Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (Malaysian Health Ministry) has asked us to
conduct a survey about the understanding level of female and male student in
Taylors University on one of the common chronic diseases in Malaysia. We decided
to choose Tuberculosis, which known as TB in short, as our topic in this project due
as it is common in the world as well as in Malaysia with average of 20,000 case
reported every year. This is also one of the ways to get the public some awareness
about such diseases.
Tuberculosis, a disease which is developed due to a bacterium called
Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This bacteria usually attack the lungs, but also can
attack any part of the body such as the kidney, spine, and brain. This reason made
TB disease fatal if not medication attention is not given. Its spread from one person
to another through tiny droplets released into the air via coughs and sneezes
however it does not spread through physical contact or sharing items and food.
General signs and symptoms of TB disease include fever, chills, night sweats, loss of
appetite, weight loss, and fatigue. People who was infected will feel some negative
psychological effect such as depression of life. Even though the success rate for
curing this disease was over 80%, but we cannot take it lightly because the death
rate of this disease is around 50% if leaving untreated and this is especially true in
rural areas where it is difficult to get appropriate medical attention. Tuberculosis can
even come in a latent form (inactive state) and this will always give out no signs of
the infections such as symptoms and effects.
OBJECTIVES
The objective of this survey was to study the understanding level of female and
male students in Taylors University on tuberculosis. In our survey, we will focus on
asking simple general questions as well as questions regarding figures. The
common questions given are related to the symptoms, psychological effect,
transmission method as well as stages of tuberculosis. In addition to this, we will also
focus on Malaysia in few of our questions as this is related to the context of doing the
survey for Malaysian Health Ministry. Our last question will be personal opinion
which ask how important is tuberculosis issue.
The survey will be conducted in a simple surveying form consisting of multiple
choices. Our surveying target will be 250 Taylors student with 125 male and 125
female. Furthermore, after the survey is done, we will apply knowledge on analysing
statistical data and draw conclusion from the data.

METHODOLOGY
The very first part of our process is choosing appropriate questions and designing
the survey form which we proceed with printing 250 copies. After this is done, we
proceed to data collection which cost us 4 days, from 20 th October to 23th October
2015. Since there is 5 of us in the group, each of us are assigned to survey 50
people with 25 female and 25 male. Our survey target was mainly focus on student
of Taylors University as this is the requirement needed by the Health Ministry.
Analysation process begins shortly after 23 rd of October which is done in table format
in Excel. This way it is easier to calculate the percentage and amount of figures of all
the required data such as the percentage of those who answered correctly, their total
scores, average and standard deviation of their overall total scores (all of this is
calculated automatically). This data will allow as to make a fairly in-depth conclusion
and evaluation.
With the report done, the process continues with the creation of the infographic A2
posters about our whole survey and analysis which is done in Adobe Illustrator in a
day. The finished design is then printed and the whole report is compiled.

CONCLUSION
To summarize our survey, the main reason we carry out this survey is to find out the
understanding level of female and male students in Taylors University towards
tuberculosis. We have analyse and gather all the information into a complete table.
Based on the data that we have collected, we found out that the average
understanding level of the male students on TB disease is higher than the female
students.
For the female students that we have surveyed, 49.6% of them know that there are
total of 4 stages in the TB disease. There is a only a few of them know that the TB
disease is transmitted through air. Moreover, there is 47.2%, which is a total of 59
female students strongly agree that Tuberculosis is a very important issue. All of the
respond result in an average percentage of understanding level of female students
towards TB disease, which is 31.6%.
And for the male students, most of them, which is 80.8% successfully answer that
Tuberculosis is highest among the adult aged 18-49. However, there is only 8.8% of
them knew that the death rate of the Tuberculosis which is between 50% to 70%.
There is a total of 76.8% of male agree that Tuberculosis is a very important issue.
An average percentage, which is 33.3% of male who understand about the TB
disease make the male understand the TB disease better than the female.
FNBE0115 Mathematics
Although the female students understand the TB disease better than the male, the
lower average percentage we analysed proof that there is not even half of the
participants understand about the disease. Therefore, Kementerian Kesihatan
Malaysia (Malaysian Heath Ministry) should organize more campaigns through
events and also media to help people to aware of TB disease. Also, hanging this
infographic poster around the university is an ideal way to sharpen the knowledge of
students towards this disease.
