The Goal
This is a theoretical advanced prosthodontics course where students are provided with
extensive theoretical background in the form of 2 hours seminar once a week. Evidence
based information will be provided in different fields of removable prosthodontics to
ensure that all students acquire the knowledge necessary to be competent for the
practical work.
Under strict supervision, students will be engaged in this process and will provide
abstracts of evidence based related literature in each seminar. Discussions will be
allowed during each seminar in order to maximize the efficiency of gaining the optimum
knowledge in this regard taking into account the variations in the students' levels.

Course Objectives
1. Provide the student with theoretical background needed to understand the
concepts and principles of construction and planning of the removable partial
and complete denture treatment, Maxillofacial prosthesis, occlusal splints,
and other removable devices.
2. Explain concepts and principles of removable prosthodontics as they relate
to management of patient.
3. Build up students knowledge and prepare them to utilize this knowledge to
treat patients later on.
4. Allow the student to understand and practice the evidence based dentistry
and extract the knowledge from the literature.
5. Display an awareness of the influence that the artificial appliance has on
environment and health.
6. Understand various stages necessary to complete treatment plan.
7. Communicate with the dental technicians and provide accurate laboratory
prescriptions. Also, integrate with dental teams including other
specialists, assistants, hygienists and technicians.
8. Understand ongoing care and maintenance of any provided prosthesis.
9. Display an understanding of the psychological and behavioural
implications of tooth loss on patients and relate it to the treatment plan.
10. Manage the concept of total patient care (full mouth rehabilitation) with
respect to partially edentulous patients.

The Lecture Series


o All lectures to be held on Monday (2pm-4pm) at the dental hospital and clinics-JUST.

Teaching Methods
Class lectures, lecture notes, homework assignments and abstract preparations are designed to achieve
the course objectives.
Data show and computer presentations will be displayed. Articles, book chapters and teaching
material will be provided in advance.
Students will be required to prepare assignments and summaries of related articles and literature
Students should read the assigned chapters and references before class, complete assignments on time,
participate in class and do their best efforts to grasp this material.
Discussions will be held at the end of each lecture and students are encouraged to ask many questions
and ask for any clarifications.
Students are responsible for all material covered in the lecture.
Please communicate any concerns or issues as soon as practical either in class, by phone, e-mail, or
contacting the coordinator.
Study guides, references, assignments and instructions will be available to the students in advance.

Additional Notes
Exams

- Will cover the course and the teaching material.


- Exams will be in one of the following forms: Essay questions (short and/or long), multiple
choice questions, and/or design treatment planning for clinical cases.

Makeup
Exams

- You should do the assignments your self in order to pass exams.


- Only given if there is valid excuse and according to the regulations by JUST.

Cheating

- Cheating is illegal and unethical activity and is not allowed by any means and anyone who is
involved in such act will be exposed to the disciplinary actions according to the JUST
regulation.
- You should do the assignments yourself and do not copy and paste the information from the
internet sources or the provided references.

Attendance

- Attendance is essential and should be excellent. Students should provide excuse if they have
to be absent.
- JUST regulations will be applied in this regard and include that the student will be assigned
the mark 35 (ZERO grade) if he or she misses 10% of the classes without excuse.
- Sign-up sheets will be circulated during class and you should sign your name and must not
by any means sign on behalf of other students; this will be considered cheating and fabrication
and will be subject to JUST disciplinary actions.
- Students are responsible for any announcements or assignments they may have missed if
they do not attend.

Participation - Students should participate in all seminars and prepare abstracts of related literature and
articles.
- Students are encouraged to ask questions and discuss any topic and they have the right to
have any clarification regarding any point. Please do not hesitate to ask and if we do not have
the time we delay the answer tell the end of the lecture or after the class or during the office
hours.
- Please ask for repetition of any point if you do not understand or do not hear. After all; I am
here to teach and help you.
- Asking questions will help the teacher to be more clear about the topic and to know the
difficult points for the students to understand. Therefore, the whole teaching process will be
improved.
- Side talks and any kind of disruption will negatively affect you and your colleagues.
