VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT:
DOCUMENTATION ASSISTANT
The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged
with spearheading Africas rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting
unity, Solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of African and African
States as well as developing a new partnership worldwide. Its Headquarters is located
in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.
In seeking to achieve these objectives the African Union intends to strengthen its
capacity to deliver by, among others, the implementation of new organization structure
and the filling of vacant posts.
The Commission of the African Union invites applicants who are citizens of Member
States for the post of Documentation Assistant.

2. JOB PURPOSE:
Assist the documentation officer to provide efficient information and documentation
services to support and facilitate the implementation of the African Commission's mandate,
particularly the daily work of its Secretariat.

3. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist the Documentation Officer to identify, select and order reference


materials, other books and resources for the Documentation Centre.

Source required information.

Cull obsolete and damaged materials from the library collection.

Prepare statistical and other reports regarding library operations.

Ensure that users of the Documentation Centre receive information


requested.

Perform other duties as may be assigned.

4. QUALIFICATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Diploma in Library Science from a recognized educational institution, a


higher qualification will be an added advantage

Good knowledge and practical use of Computer are mandatory

A minimum of five (5) years relevant working experience in an


international organization

Good data management skills are mandatory

5. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:
Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages. Knowledge of one or several
other working languages would be an added advantage.
6. TENURE OF APPOINTMENT:
The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of
with the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the
contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance
and deliverables.

7. LEAST REPRESENTATIVE COUNTRIES:


Candidates from the following least represented countries are encouraged to apply:
Eritrea, Central African Republic, Cape Verde, Comoros, Congo (DRC), Djibouti,
Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Madagascar, Mauritania, Namibia, Sahrawi Arab Republic,
SaoTome and Principe, Seychelles and Somalia.
8. GENDER MAINSTREAMING:

9. REMUNERATION:
Indicative basic salary of US$ 14,852.00 per annum plus other related entitlements e.g.
Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance US$ 10,598.40 per annum),
education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for every
eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc. for
internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
