What is a letter?
A letter is a type of
communication,
which is written or
typed and is often
sent in an envelope
by post or
messenger.

These messages
can be written on
a piece of paper,
postcards or
decorated cards.

Why do we write letters?


People write
letters to
express
themselves to
another person.

It helps people to stay


connected even when
they are far away
from one another.

Writing letters help


build relationship
between friends,
relatives or even
different
professionals.

What do we need to write a


letter?
Papers or
cards.
Any sorts
of paper or
cards you
fancy.

Writing
materials,
such as
color
pencils,
markers,
crayons,
pens and
pencils.

You will need

send out your

There are some points you must think
before writing a letter.

1. Who do you like to address the


letter to?
Your mother, father,
grandparents or your friends?
2. Why are you writing this letter?
Are you sending your greetings?
Are you writing a thank you or
apology letter?

Lets practice writing on your
address, before we mail our
letter.

Stamps
You will need stamps to mail a letter.
Stamps are used as a form of payment
for the service to deliver our mails.
There are a wide variety of stamps
designs you can choose for your letter.

Stamps
There are also different value for
each stamps, which often ranges from
20 cents onwards. You need to choose
a stamp value according to the weight
and size of your letter.

You can get


your stamps
from local post
office or
convenience
stores that
carry them.

How do we mail letters?


Mailing is easy as long you follow these
simple steps.
1. You will need to ensure that your
envelope is sealed.
Sealing the envelope prevents the
letter from falling out. If you are
writing on a postcard, you do not need
an envelope for that.

Secure
with glue,
tape or
stickers.

to ask the friendly assistants for help!
Some questions to ask yourself before
mailing the letter:

1. Have I attached a stamp on the


letter?
2. Have I written the correct
address?
3. Have I sealed my envelope?

Who collects the mail and


sends it out?
The postman will collect the mail from the
post office and the letter will be delivered
to the recipient letterbox in a few days.

For mails that are delivered to overseas, it


may take longer because it is further. The
postman will put the letters in a bag
before putting it on the airplane for the
mail to be delivered to the other country.
The postmen in the other country will
deliver the letter to the recipient.

1. Start with the paper of your choice
with the size of 8.5 x 11 inches.

2. Fold the paper in half lengthwise.

3. Unfold the paper and you should see
a crease in the middle of the paper.

4. Hold the top right hand and pull it


towards the crease, which will form a
mini triangle. Fold it down when it
touches the crease.

5. Hold the bottom right hand corner
and pull it towards the crease, which
will form a mini triangle. Fold it down
when it touches the crease.

6. Grab the top edge of the paper,


beneath the triangle, and fold the right
edge toward the center by 1 inch in
size.

7. Do the same on the bottom edge of
the paper.

8. Fold the bottom of the paper up to


the corner where the triangle on top
meets the vertical edges..

9. Open the fold and apply glue or
double side tape on the sides.

12. Fold the top triangle down to the


center of the rectangle. Place a sticker
or glue the envelope to secure your
letter.
