CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY
Successful completion of Construction Technology program prepares the student for entry into
the construction trades, which require a technical skill and understanding of construction
processes. Highlights: Program designed for immediate employment, upgrading of job skills, and
potential opportunities for career self-employment. Courses can be transferable to four-year
institutions. Students planning on transferring to a four-year institution should review major sheet
for an Associate in Arts in Construction Technology. A grade of C or better is required in all
major, certificate and major elective courses.
Upon completion of program, students will be able to:
Students will be able to demonstrate appropriate use of construction tools, methods, and
materials, follow safety practices and procedures used in the industry.
Students will demonstrate understanding of construction terms, concepts, and hands-on
applications. Students will problem solve a variety of applications in the construction
industry including written and practical demonstrations.
Students will be able to read and interpret building codes, blueprints, manuals,
specifications, shop drawings, and communicate with diverse groups developing an
understanding of cultural norms and communication skills.
Students will apply effective use of emerging technologies in the construction trades
including green application and energy efficiency.
Students will apply the skills learned from construction technologies courses to work on
projects that involve building homes for low income families. e.g. Habitat For Humanity
and Emergency Housing
Students will learn to be well-rounded, compassionate, responsible, ethical professionals
with a willingness to serve the local communitys needs.
Students will demonstrate environmentally sustainable and sensitive aesthetics.
