Double Eagle Golf Course under new ownership

Leonard and Vicky Fowler of
Rosemount, Minnesota, have
purchased the Double Eagle Golf
Course and plan to open for busi-
ness about April 15.
The Double Eagle Golf Course
is a nine-hole reversible course,
located about 10 miles west of
Browerville at 31886 County
Road 3. It has beautiful, tree-
lined, gently rolling fairways and
five ponds that are home to many
species of birds and other
wildlife. The Clubhouse includes
a restaurant and bar that will
offer food service.
“We were looking to buy a
campground, but we saw this
place offered for sale, we checked
it out, and here we are. We
wanted to have something to do
in our retirement, and bring the
kids into the business later on,”
explained Leonard. “My wife
Vicki is already retired, and I’m
retiring this year.”
The Fowlers owned a meat
processing plant and grocery
store in their home town of
Dysart, Iowa, for 10 years. In
1984, Leonard went to work for
Nash-Finch, where he started a
sausage kitchen service, then
worked in purchasing and in the
corporate offices for 19 years.
After this, he went into the
heavy equipment and rock crush-
ing business with a quarry in
Apple Valley for 7 years. “This
is our first time in the retail food
and recreation business,”
Leonard said.
There is a lot of work to be
done when opening a new busi-
ness, Leonard explained. He
has applied for a food license,
liquor license, and gambling
license. The county board is set

The Clubhouse has new carpet
and a beautifully refinished
wood-paneled bar area with wall
murals. It overlooks a pond
with bird houses, and a small
deck will accommodate smokers
at a half-dozen outdoor tables.
The Fowlers will have a staff
of managers, bartenders, wait
staff, cooks, and grounds keep-
ers. They are still hiring to com-
plete their staff. People inter-
ested in these jobs should apply
in person at the Double Eagle
Golf Course during daylight
hours.
Golf season memberships are
available at the same prices as
last year. An adult member-
ship is $365 for a single person,
$575 for a couple, $775 for a fam-
ily, and $75 for a student. Day
rates for golf are $15 for nine
holes on Monday-Friday, and $17
on Saturday and Sunday. For
18 holes, the rate is $23 for
Monday-Friday, and $25 for
Saturday and Sunday. Gas-
powered golf carts are available
to rent at $14 for 9 holes and $24
for 18 holes. There is a driving
range with a bucket of balls
going for $3.50.
“We hope everyone will come
and see us and check out our
restaurant as well as the golf
course,” said Leonard. “We
want to work with local clubs
and other organizations and help
you to have great events with
us.”
The Fowlers have been greatly
assisted by a crew of volunteers
who have worked to clean up the
grounds and repair some of the
landscaping. They want to thank
everyone who has helped to get
the golf course and Clubhouse
area ready for business.
