Do Dentistry, Not Time

For DENTISTS & ASSISTANTS

with Dr. Roy Shelburne

You CAN be ready in the event of a Board complaint,
insurance audit, malpractice claim, or criminal complaint.
There are ways to protect yourself.
Dr. Shelburne, during his criminal investigation and
in preparation for trial, found that his record keeping
systems were faulty. He learned that it is possible and
critical to implement protocols and form a defensive,
systematic approach to record keeping, billing, and coding. You must document that if
its not in your clinical record, you didnt see it, you didnt say it, you didnt do it, it didnt
need to be done, and it doesnt existfrom a legal perspective. To be prepared for any
challenge the whole dental team must be careful, concise, complete, and diligent-, not
just the doctor. Learning and implementing this no-nonsense team approach to record
keeping and clinical documentation could mean the difference between success and
failure in the event of a legal action or challenge to your practice.
