HISTORY OF COMMUNICATION:

Communication is the process of sharing ideas, information and messages with others.
The most basic communication methods that are known to man are speech (verbal) and nonverbal expressions such as facial expressions and body language. Apart from these basic methods
of communication there are other methods of communication. These methods began to evolve
and become complex as the wants and needs of human beings became complex.
Visual communication also goes hand in hand with writing. The first paintings found
were drawn more than 5000 years ago, well before words were written down. Paintings were
used in the past like writing. Other than these methods of communication there were other
methods used to signal and communicate with in a distance.
One of the major means of communication is writing. Most languages do have a written
form. It can be written down and someone else may read it and understand the meaning. Writing
has been used from the time of the Mayans and Egyptians. The oldest record of writing is some
5000 years old. Writing in the early days was used to mark down the major events of history. It
was also used inside temples and chambers of kings.
Our ancestors developed systems for sending simple messages or signals over a distance
through:
Fire or smoke signals,
Lanterns,
Drumbeats,
Birds and arrows.

Page 1

Fire or smoke signals

In 150B.C. Native Americans (old American) used a type of communication called smoke
signals. In this form of communication, puffs or columns of smoke were sent into the air in many
different ways, signaling different things. The smoke signals were not exactly a full language,
but were mostly used as brief signals of communication. Some of the recognized signals are
remembered today.
One puff of smoke sent into the air was believed to signal attention.
Two puffs meant all's well or everything is okay.
Three puffs signal either danger, call for help, or simply just trouble.

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)

Page 2

The smoke is made by putting green branches or grass into the fire. Blankets are used to
control the smoke puffs. Important events were also marked by smoke signals like war, death, or
marriage. There were light and heavy signals, each meaning separate things. One meant good,
the other meant bad.
In Ancient China, soldiers stationed along the Great Wall would alert each other of
impending enemy attack by signaling from tower to tower. In this way, they were able to transmit
a message as far away as 750 kilometers in just a few hours.

Lantern Means of Communication:

Another interesting element of the Chinese lanterns history is that, they also served as a
means of communication among neighbors, when placed on the doorway, and the colors of the
lanterns symbolized the events that the family was going through.

Blue Lantern:

A blue lantern is an indicator of poor health in the house, and also symbolizes the
degenerating health of a family member.
Red Lantern:

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)

Page 3

Red is a symbol of exuberance and zeal at its peak. As such, when placed outside a house, it
symbolizes an event of marriage, or a birth in the family.

White Lantern:

As is the case with many cultures across the world, white represents death in the Chinese
culture too. When two white lanterns are placed on top of a doorway, along with a white sash
that is placed across them, it symbolizes that a family is in mourning.
Not only were Chinese lanterns used to communicate the good and bad events in a
family, they also served as a means of communication among the military. The famous war hero,
Zhu Geliang has been credited with the invention of a special lantern, used to alert neighboring
cities of potential attack or danger. This he did by dousing a strip of cloth in kerosene, and
placing it within a lamp that was light enough to float into the sky at night.

Communication by Drums:
Languages, spoken there, have drum equivalents. It works just about like the Morse code
(a of signaling and telegraphy), except that the Morse code uses letters as units and the drum
communication uses words.
That intonation relies on high/low tones. These tones can easily be duplicated by the
drums. Of course, there are words that have the same amount of syllables (a word that contain

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)

Page 4

the vowel sound) and have the same intonation. You can imagine that a message sent using
drums could get quite long.
Intonation (a particular tone ring with the drum) is very important in the Bantu
Languages. A word can have completely different meanings, depending on the intonation.

Communication by Birds:

Ever since the beginning of time as we know it, our civilization has developed and relied
on various forms of communication in order to confer amongst those of his own species.
Whether it is to convey messages of friendship, anger, sadness or even war, Birds carried
messages through a long distance. The message was attached to a foot of a Pigeon or a Falcon
who flew home with the message. This specific method of communication was used to a great
extent during World War I.

HISTORY OF TELECOMMUNICATION:
What is Telecommunication?
Telecommunications is a general term for a vast array of technologies that send
information over distances.
The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)
Page 5

Telecommunication is a term coming from Greek and meaning communication at

distance through signals of varied nature coming from a transmitter to a receiver. In order to
achieve effective communication, the choice of a proper mean of transport for the signal has
played (and still plays) a fundamental role.
Mobile phones, land lines, satellite phones and voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) are all
telephony technologies just one field of telecommunications. Radio, television and networks are
a few more examples of telecommunication.

The true jump in terms of quality came with the advent of electricity. Electromagnetic

energy, in fact, is able to transport information in an extremely fast way (ideally to the speed of
light), in a way that previously had no equals in terms of costs reliability. Therefore, we may say
that the starting point of all modern telecommunications was the invention of the electric cell by
Alessandro Volta (1800).
In ancient times, the most common way of producing a signal would be through light
(fires) and sound (drums and horns). However, those kinds communications were insecure and
certainly left room to improvement as they did not permit message encryption or a fast
transmission of information on a large scale
The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)
Page 6

It was shortly thereafter that the first experiments on more advanced communication
system begun from 1830s that electrical telecommunication system started to appear.
Telecommunication is started at that time through
Telegraph and telephone
Radio and television

Telegraph and Telephone

A very early experiment in electrical telegraphy was an 'electrochemical' telegraph

created by the German physician and inventor Samuel Thomas in 1809. Based on an earlier, less
robust design of 1804 by scientist Francisco.

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)

Page 7

Both their designs employed multiple wires (up to 35) in order to visually represent almost all
letters and numerals. Thus, messages could be conveyed.
Electrically up to a few kilometers with each of the telegraph receiver's wires. An
electrical current was sequentially applied by the sender through the various wires representing
each digit of a message.
The first commercial electrical telegraph was constructed in England by Sir Charles
Wheatstone and Sir William Cooke. It used the deflection of needles to represent messages and
started operating over twenty-one kilometers (thirteen miles) of the Great Western Railway on 9
April 1839. Both Wheatstone and Cooke viewed their device as "an improvement to the
[existing] electromagnetic telegraph" not as a new device.
Telephone

The conventional telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876, based on his
earlier work with harmonic (multi-signal) telegraphs. The first commercial telephone services
were set up in 1878 and 1879 on both sides of the Atlantic in the cities of New Haven and

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)

Page 8

London. Bell held the master patent for the telephone that was needed for such services in both
countries.
The technology grew quickly from this point, with inter-city lines being built and telephone
exchanges in every major city of the United States by the mid-1880s.
In 1880, Bell and co-inventor Charles Sumner Tainter conducted the world's first wireless
telephone call via modulated light beams projected by photo phones. The scientific principles of
their invention would not be utilized for several decades, when they were first deployed in
military and fiber-optic communications.

Radio and Television:

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)

Page 9

In 1832, James Lindsay gave a classroom demonstration of wireless telegraphy to his

students. By 1854, he was able to demonstrate a transmission across the Firth of Tay from
Dundee to Woodhaven, a distance of two miles (3 km), using water as the transmission medium.
Addressing the Franklin Institute in 1893, Nikola Tesla described and demonstrated in
detail the principles of wireless telegraphy. The apparatus that he used contained all the elements
that were incorporated into radio systems before the development of the vacuum tube. However
it was not until 1900 that Reginald Fessenden was able to wirelessly transmit a human voice.
Television:

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)

Page 10

In December 1901, Guglielmo Marconi established wireless communication between

Britain and Newfoundland, earning him the Nobel Prize in physics in 1909 (which he shared
with KarlBraun). On March 25, 1925, Scottish inventor John Logie Baird publicly demonstrated
the transmission of moving pictures at the London department store Selfridges.
In October 1925, Baird was successful in obtaining moving pictures with halftone shades,
which were by most accounts the first true television pictures. Baird's first devices relied upon
the Nipkow disk and thus became known as the mechanical television. It formed the basis of
semi-experimental broadcasts done by the British Broadcasting Corporation beginning
September 30, 1929. However for most of the twentieth century televisions depended upon the
cathode ray tube invented by Karl Braun.

For this we ensure that we provide the maximum touch-points to our valuable subscribers to
reach us.
The channels through which our consumers can reach us are:

channels and will handle them according to the nature.

Innovative VAS
CMPak will always view possibilities keeping in view customers' needs. It has proved so
by being the fore-runner in introducing first-of-a-kind value added services; to name a few
Book Your Number customers can purchase numbers of their own choice by checking
availability from ZONG website or by visiting their nearest telesales retailer.
Take One application using which customer can share pictures as well as videos online to
international numbers and email addresses too.

ZONG services for a period of 1 year by receiving monthly balance and free SMS and MMS
resources too.
Student Entrepreneur Program by being a part of which students get an opportunity to be a
part of ZONG team and a chance to earn pocket money by selling ZONG connections, porting in
numbers to ZONG and being a ZONG associate by being able to transfer miniload to ZONG
numbers.
CRBT application a GPRS based service using which customers can manage their own dial
tune account on their handsets.

Customers' self-governance and information

CMPak will keep its subscribers updated about their usage and accounts (both prepaid
and postpaid). ZONG (CMPak) has given the authority to its subscribers to self-monitor their
usage details by giving them access to e Care for both prepaid and postpaid customers on the
website. By accessing these portals our customers are able to comprehend their balance
consumption, billing, and to perform activities like blocking and unblocking of their respective
numbers.

CMPak informs its customers when they are getting low on balance. A prepaid subscriber
is intimated by a recording of insufficient balance, on dialing every call, when he reaches the
limit of Rs.10 in his account and through an SMS when his account balance becomes lower than
Rs.5. Similarly our postpaid subscribers, when reach 90% of their credit limit, are sent an
intimation SMS to make them aware about their usage and billing.

Suspension of services
The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)
Page 39

CMPak subscribers are not charged/liable to pay any disconnection/suspension charges.

However, services suspended due to non-payment or expiry of balance may only be restored
upon clearing of outstanding dues or recharge of balance.

Prepaid subscribers:
A prepaid number gets blocked on request received from customer or from the company's end
in case of obnoxious/fraudulent activity confirmation from that number.
CMPak will always verify blocking request that it is being received from the original user of
the number. Customer is verified on providing name and CNIC and in case there is a
discrepancy; address, two most dialed numbers, activation date and last recharge verification is
asked for processing the request received.
For further making the process reliable, CMPak provides the option of getting a special tag
updated against customers' number which is fulfilled when original customer visits ZONG
Customer Service Center with active SIM and original CNIC. Upon implementation of the tag,
no action whatsoever will be performed on customer's number until he visits the Service Center
in person.

On receiving obnoxious/fraudulent complaint against its subscriber, CMPak will issue one
warning to the user upon verification of the act. In case of non-compliance to the warning issued,
CMPak will block the services of the number in question after notifying the customer via
sms/call.

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)

Page 40

Customers are given the leverage of getting their number unblocked on submission of written
apology along with their CNIC copy after approval of Pakistan Telecom Authority.

Postpaid subscribers:
Outgoing activity block
On reaching 90% of their credit limit, CMPak will always notify its postpaid users via SMS
about their billing status.
On reaching 100% of the defined credit limit, the outgoing activity of our postpaid customer
gets blocked but incoming remains active for another 90 days. Line rent will not be charged
during this period.

Online Blocking/Deb locking

The purpose of online blocking request cannot be served as per the mentioned point as
PTA would like to involve third level verification which as per our SLA is physical verification.
Level 1: The customer calls from his/her own MSISDN (i.e. same CLI).
Level 2: The customer calls from his/her own MSISDN, and can provide 2 kinds information at
least from the list below:
Owner Name.
CNIC
Contact Address
Subscribe date (FCA)
Latest 2 Payment record
2 most dialed numbers

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)

Page 41

Our postpaid customer can get his number blocked voluntarily as long a duration as of his
choice. The request is received by calling the helpline from the same CLI and on providiLevel 2
verification. This option can only be availed after ensuring that his/her outstanding bill is clear.
The same number can be unblocked by calling on the helpline from a different CLI and
providing the same verification that was provided for blocking of the said number.

F.I.A, IB,ISI, etc require subscriber data from time to time, or where investigation in reported
illegal activities necessitates such disclosure.

Disputed case handling

On receiving of a disputed case of ownership, the concerned parties will be requested to
visit ZONG Customer Service Center with all original documents and proof of ownership of the
number in question and decision would be taken on base of provided CSAF and original
documents. Whosoever of the concerned parties gets verified as the original user and the rightful
owner after detailed investigation, will be facilitated accordingly.
On receiving a complaint for fraudulent port in of a number to ZONG network, complainant's
touch-point for registration of the complaint will be the donor operator.
On escalation of the said complaint to us from the concerned operator, CMPak will pursue the
case further and the portability of that number will be reverted depending on the outcome of the
investigation.

Customer Services
We will always aim at providing prompt call resolution to our customers, in the minimum time
possible, whether customer calls over the helpline or visits any ZONG outlet.
Polite and careful handling of customer will be very well taken care of at all touch-points.
Chances of customer mishandling will be minimized by taking various measures which may
include all related training and sessions of our staff pertaining to customer handling, ensuring
that implementation of customer service ethics will be very well implemented in daily dealing
with customers.

reason. It may be divided in three categories:

ZONG CSR ACTIVITY
ZONG employees spend a day with mentally challenged children
Under Corporate Volunteerism Program me, employees of ZONG recently visited Chambeli
Institute of Mentally Challenged Children and Physiotherapy Center located in Satellite Town,
Rawalpindi. The Institute has around 50 special children enrolled in it and has a staff of 20
people to manage and help with these children.
It was a full day event which comprised of many fun filled activities like face painting,
musical chairs, tableau by children, 3-legged race, spoon & ball race and dancing competition.
Children participated with great enthusiasm while volunteers from ZONG compassionately
arranged all these activities with help of the institute's staff.
Children also watched a cartoon movie on the multimedia and later on excitedly received
gifts, food items and goodie bags which were being distributed by ZONG employees. Each child
was presented stationery items, coloring box set, glitter pens and coloring books along with
scrumptious delights to make this day a memorable one for them. By organizing such activities
ZONG is not only integrating CSR best practices by promoting community service among its
employees but is also mentoring them to become better future leaders.
Their first hand exposure to the opportunities, challenges and conditions of community
members will inform their actions as they move to become mentors and decision makers. The
basic philosophy behind this program is to encourage and support ZONG family members to

Example 1- For same denomination loaded twice or more in one day, validity period will be the
same.
If a customer recharges a scratch card of Rs 100, immediately followed by another scratch card
of Rs 100, the total balance accumulated in the customer's account will have a validity of 60
days.
Example 2 - The validity shall be that of the highest denomination of amount loaded.

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)

Page 95

If a customer recharges 2 scratch cards on the same day: one is of Rs 100 and the other one is
of Rs 1,000 then as the validity period of scratch card Rs 1,000 is higher (365 days) it will take
precedence i.e. the validity period for total amount loaded on that day would be 365 days.
If customer loaded Rs 1,000 (validity 365 days) on 2nd of the month and Rs 100 (validity 60
days) on 12th of the same month, the validity of his balance on 12th will be 355 days as validity
is dependent on highest denomination of amount loaded.

PORTER FIVE FORCE MODEL
Five forces looks at five key areas namely threat of new entry, power of buyers, power of
suppliers, threat of substitutes, and competitive rivalry.

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)

Page 126

Threat of Potential Entrant

As government of Pakistan is showing liberalism in case of telecommunication sector
and opened its policies to award new licensees to new mobile service providers so threat of new
entry is high.

Bargaining Power of Buyers

Power of buyer is high in telecommunication sector. There are five market players and
players are offering different packages at different prices and a situation of price war is

running.
Buyers have a power to buy any package which is suited to them.Cost of switching from
one company package to other company package is low. Hence, power of buyers is high.

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)

Page 127

Bargaining power of Suppliers

The power of suppliers is low in case of telecommunication sector.

Threat of Substitute
Government also gave so many land lines and wireless local loop licenses to different
companies like PTCL wireless local loop, GO CDMA, WORLD CALL etc. these services in
future will be like mobile phone services like they are planning to offer services a lot but
currently they are offering SMS and CLI services to their customers.

Rivalry Among Competing Firms in Industry

Currently there are five market players but in future they will the increased in number because
there is less barriers to entry the future expected satellite service.
Thuraya satellite service is offering subscribers freedom of mobility and uninterrupted service.
Thuraya's satellite technology supplements of existing mobile service providers, overcoming the
challenges of large geographical areas.

PEST Analysis

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)

Page 128

In order to survive and remain profitable in todays competitive marketplace, Zong need
to be able to react and adapt to changes in the external environment and ideally be proactive in
impacting these forces. External environment factors can be classified into five general
categories: competitive, social/cultural, legal, economic, political, and technological.

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)

Page 129

Political Factors
Political Instability
Pakistan is facing political instability causing danger for the telecom industry. But the
political factor does not effect on Zong so high because Zong related from china and relationship
of china and Pakistan is very strong.
Deregulation
The telecom sector of Pakistan has successfully liberalized in an efficient, transparent and
fastest deregulation of telecom in the region. The Government of Pakistan gave the status of
Industry to Pakistan Telecommunication Sector.
Changes in Tax Laws
Tax rates have been increased day by day government tax rate of call is 15% and recently
government increased it by 6 % more.

Economic Factors
Gross Domestic Product
Telecom sector of Pakistan has a share of almost 2 percent in National GDP.
Average Revenue per User (ARPU)
The average revenue per user is falling. It does not affect value able on Zong. Because
Zong started in same condition.

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)

Page 130

Decline in Money Value

The decline in Rupee value against the US Dollar, the decrease in the interconnect
charges and lower priced tariffs have resulted in an overall decrease of ARPU in US Dollar
terms.
Outflow of Capital
The ongoing economic turmoil along with the worsening of security conditions in
Pakistan has caused an increased outflow of capital from the country.

Technological Factors
Technological Development
Companies are investing in their infrastructure to not only expand but also to upgrade
their existing structure. As the competition is strong ZONG is focusing on its value added
services
Technological Advancement
All companies are providing Multi-media Messaging Services (MMS), General Packet
Radio Service (GPRS), Virtual Private Network (VPN), Pocket Stocks, Conference Calling,
Wallpapers Animated pictures Polyphonic ring tones (WAP), and Voice Mail at low price.
Technological Trends
The well-recognized technology trends that are influencing the evolution of the network
indicate that:
The cost of a call is becoming even more insensitive to the distance;
The modularity of the network is increasing;
The switching off from one network to another is very easy;
The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)
Page 131

The geographic boundaries are irrelevant for emerging technology;

The intelligence and function are moving away from the central office.
In these conditions competition is very strong among competitors. Zong is improving itself in
technology.

Social factors
Strategies according to the need of people
While making the marketing strategies company consider the many factors like cultural
and social. The study of culture helps to understand the consumer behavior and in turn assists
firms to improve their marketing strategies. ZONG has done wonderful job in this perspective.
Before entering into market it has done extensive research on the behaviors of the consumers.

SWOT Analysis

SWOT Analysis is to evaluate the business in the market and a strategic planning tool
used to evaluate the Threats, Opportunities and Strengths, Weaknesses, involved in a project or
in a business venture or in any other situation requiring a decision. This is an important tool
which is helpful to formulate strategy. This Matrix is an important matching tool that helps
managers develops four types of strategies:
SO Strategies (Strength-Opportunities)
WO Strategies (Weakness-Opportunities)
ST Strategies (Strength-Threats) and
The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)
Page 133

WT Strategies (Weakness-Threats)
SWOT is defined precisely as follows:
Strengths are attributes of the organization that are helpful to the achievement of the objective.
Weaknesses are attributes of the organization that are harmful to the achievement of the
objective.
Opportunities are external conditions that are helpful to the achievement of the objective.
Threats are external conditions that are harmful to the achievement of the objective.

Strength S
Resources
Being multinational company Zong huge resources in terms of capital. It has billions of capital
to invest in various projects. Its offices are luxuriously equipped with every facility.
Zong while choosing people for jobs follow the strategy of choosing the best among all
therefore majority of its staff people are highly qualified from renowned universities of Pakistan.
Certain people are foreign qualified.
So far CM Pak has invested more than US$ 700 million in the telecom sector in
Pakistan and an additional US$ 800 million invested at the end of 2008.
Network Portability
Over 500,000 people have been switched to Zong from other networks
High Growth Rate
Above table shows clearly about the growth rate of Zong from December 2009 to January
2011. Almost in one year the market share is grew up by 2%. That is why it is also counted in
strength of zong.

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)

Page 134

Zong Mobile
Zong also offer mobile phones with very low prices and the SIM having balance of one
year (given every month). This is also very effective promotion for zong.
Strong Image of Parent Company (CM Pak)
Zong have a strong image of their parent company china mobile Pakistan CM Pak. Tha is plus
point for Zong.
Lowest rate nation wide
Zong provide lowest rates as compare to other telecom industry its a great thing which is only
provided by Zong.
Location And Geographical Coverage
Zong is also covering the all cities of Pakistan and in 2008 Zong completed its record sites 1000
in Pakistan its great achievement.
Zong is covering the northern areas of Pakistan rapidly.

Weaknesses W
Bad Image of Paktel
Bad image of associate with Paktel. And still now having old staff of paktel.
Low Market Share
The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)
Page 135

Till now zong have low market share 8.9% in January 2011. But the market share of zong
increasing rapidly from December 2009 to January 2011. Almost in one year the market share is
grew up by 2%.
Weak MIS
Zong does not have the proper lists of its customers. It has the list but this list is not authentic
which is increasing the unauthorized use of its SIM specially pre pay. Owner of SEP issued
sometimes unlisted numbers due to personal interest. So that is the weakness of ZONG.
Old Staff
ZONG Has tilled now old staff of Paktek which is not very much efficient in this era to
technology. But now ZONG try to overcome this weakness by retiring the old employees with
golden hand shake to those employees.

Opportunities O
Globalization
ZONG can expand the globally and can develop it strategy in other countries.
Acquiring / Merger
As Warid is going in loss and in the condition of liquidations its big opportunity for Zong
to acquire Warid telecom.
Covering Pak China Border
Zong can cover the border of China, with the Karakoram highway (old Silk Route) and
can play a vital role in freight transportation.
The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)
Page 136

Covering Northern Areas

China mobiles have huge experience of network operation in similar high mountainous
areas in china itself. So it is opportunity for Zong (CM Pak) to cover the northern areas of
Pakistan and get good image in the eyes of current users and potential users.
New Product
As above mentioned China mobiles have large experience of network so Zong can
introduce new products such as dish TV. Because Zong have good wireless technology e.g. ZTE,
Ericsson, Alcatel and Hawaii etc. So it is easy for Zong to introduce dish TV.

Threats T
Old Stable Companies
1st threat for zong is old stable companies in Pakistan these have good brand image in the eyes
of customers.
The Mobilink GSM started operation in the year 1994
Ufone starts its GSM operation in Pakistan on January 29, 2001
Telenor acquired the license for providing GSM services in Pakistan in April 2004
Warid starts GSM cellular services in Pakistan and Bangladesh in October 2006
But Zong started telecommunication business in Pakistan On January 22, 2007
Attractive Packages By Competitors

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (Rahim Yar Khan Campus)

Page 137

Another threat for Zong is the attractive packages offered by the competitors but the best
example is Ufone there are so many packages offered by Ufone.
Price War
In Pakistan there is 5 cellular companies so that is why bargaining power of buyers is
very much high, so there is price war is also threat for new entrant Zong.
Economic and Political Condition of Pakistan
Economic and political condition of Pakistan is very bad so this is also threat for the
companies. Increase in taxes is also threat for the companies.

CONCLUSION
After spending time with organization I have figured out that CMPak is quite optimistic
about its growth and success. It seems like management has get rid of the old and negative
thoughts of ZONG and putting their maximum effort for CMPaks success.
The management has a pre planned level of achievement which they say that they will
achieve that in the year 2011. Also the management seems like they are expecting some great
promotions in the mean time everyone has crossed fingers.
Also the way company has planned to expand the network it seems like the organization
will really achieve their targets. They have planned to install 5500 BTS by the en of this year.
Till now they have installed 2950 BTS. The management said that you yourself will see the
difference by the end of this year.
So over all in my view the aggressiveness of company shows that it will soon become a
leading cell phone operator of country.

Page 138

RECOMENDATIONS
After working with the organization I would like to recommend certain things to the
company.
Get rid of the ZONG policies as soon as possible.
They must analyze the following for better generation of revenues
They suggested following tag lines for CMPak
Give maximum coverage to users
Communication Reinvented
Pioneers are back
Give quality services
Try to co-brand with some IT-based company like Microsoft (Acer) that will surely add
value and prestige to the products and services of CMPak especially w.r.t advanced technologies.
In future the company can collaborate with banks in order that the customers/users can
directly refill their credits or can pay bills through the ATM machines.
The company can go for kiosk marketing at places like airports, shopping malls and
centers. This marketing technique will promote the brand image.
