RULES AND REGULATIONS 2010 - 2011


1. ADMISSION
l

The Hostel is managed by the Hostel Residents Council consisting of Patron, Chief Warden,
Wardens, Manager, Deputy Wardens, Resident Tutors and Student Representatives.
A student admitted to the Institution is not automatically eligible to become a member of the Hostel.
Application for admission to the Hostel must be made in the prescribed form. Admissions are made subject
to the approval of the Warden.
Before admission, each student has to pay Admission fee, Caution Deposit, Establishment
Charges, which may be revised from time to time. In addition to this, the residents shall
share the expenses incurred towards their boarding, the salary paid to the hostel staff
and also electricity and water charges.
Every student, before being admitted to the Hostel, shall give an undertaking in writing,
endorsed by the parents, that he / she will abide by the Rules and Regulations of the Hostel.
Students admitted to the hostel shall be full boarders of the hostel.
While every effort will be made to accommodate all the aspirants in the Hostel, the
following categories of students will not be provided accommodation.

Those who have not cleared the Mess dues of the previous academic year.

ii

Those who have not paid Caution Deposit and Establishment charges in full.

iii

Those who are possessing powered vehicles.

iv

Those who were punished for violating hostel rules in previous year

2. DISCIPLINE
l

Discipline in the hostel will be under the control of the Warden, Deputy Wardens and
Resident Tutors.
Ragging in all its forms is banned as it is treated as a cognizable offence. Any resident
found guilty of ragging will be dismissed from hostel and college. Further, legal action will be
taken against the defaulters.
If any ragging incidents occur to first year residents, they are informed to bring the ragging incident into the
knowledge of Chief Warden, Warden, Dy wardens and Resident Tutors for further action.
Smoking and playing cards are strictly prohibited.
Residents are strictly warned of the serious and cognizable offence of being in possession of liquor or drinks
or being found under their influence. Such residents will be expelled from hostel.
Members are not permitted to convene meetings of any nature in the hostel without the
Wardens written permission.
Shouting loudly, whistling, playing in verandahs, playing music systems loudly, affixing
posters, photographs, wall paper, indecent posters etc., on walls and glass panels, use of
objectionable language are strictly prohibited.
Members are not allowed to put up notice without the Wardens written permission.
Members shall not interfere with the work of the hostel staff and cases of misconduct, if any, should only
be brought to the notice of the warden for appropriate action.
Residents shall not stay outside after the hostel timing except in emergency (informed
to the hostel authority). Residents shall not remain in the Hostel during class hours and at
other times when their presence is expected in the Institution, except with the permission of
the Warden.
Audio system, computer and other electrical appliances shall be used only with the prior
permission of the Warden. Terms and conditions for the use of such appliances will be
stipulated from time to time. Audio systems shall not be played beyond 9.00 p.m.

Student whose name removed from Institution Rolls shall by that very fact forfeit the
hostel membership and must vacate the room.
Students who have vacated/expelled from the hostel due to disciplinary action, should obtain
permission from warden for accommodation if they want to join hostel once again.
Residents should swipe their smart card in the computer attendence system of their block for attendence. If
any one is found not staying in hostel without permission, action will be taken against them.
All senior men residents shall return to the Hostel premises before 9.30 p.m. All lady residents shall return to
their hostel premises before 6.30 pm. First year men residents shall return to their block premises before 6.30
pm, except sandwich students. First year sandwich men residents shall return to hostel before 8.30 pm.
If a resident is not available in a room continuously for 48 hours without any information to the roommates,
it is the responsibility of the roommate to inform the same to Warden / Dy. Warden / Resident Tutors
for further action.
Birth day celebration in any form is banned inside the hostel. Residents should not bring cakes inside the
hostel.
Any matter not covered by the above rules shall be decided by the Warden.
The Warden is vested with full powers to expel a student from the hostel if his / her presence is considered
detrimental to the discipline of the hostel.
3. MESS
Mess charges will be based on dividing system.
Residents or their guests shall not enter the kitchen without permission.
Residents shall have their food only in the respective messes allotted to them and they must
adhere to the prescribed timings of the mess. Fine will be levied against those who waste food.
Whenever a resident is away from the hostel on valid reason for a period exceeding seven
days, reduction in mess charges will be given only for the number of days minus of two days (n-2), provided
an application for reduction is made in the prescribed form well in advance.
It is not possible to provide mess reduction when a resident has not applied mess reduction in advance. Thow
who leave hostel in case of emergency should inform their absence by themselves or parents through phone
to hostel information service so that mess supervisor will apply mess reduction to the sick residents. After the
arrival, copy of medical certificate and college leave application form (signed by class tutor) should be submit
ted to hostel office.
The residents should pay all the dues in time failing which they have to vacate the hostel.
Residents should obtain token for Chicken, Mutton, Chilli Gobi, Omlet, Egg and Mushroom fry. Residents
should register at mess in advance to obtain the above items. Tokens should be used for the reservation day
only. Later the tokens will not be accepted.
Those who desires shall pay the mess bill amount in advance for 11 monts or 6 months.
Mess Bill has to be paid through Challan of Central Bank of India, Peelamedu (Challan is available
at hostel office), or through Demand Draft, which should be drawn only in favour of PSG Tech Hostel.
In no case, payment by Cash or Cheque will be accepted. Residents shall also pay their mess charges
and establishment charges through SBI ATM using debit card.
An imprest amount of Rs. 10,000/- to Rs. 20,000/- may be paid towards Mess Bills, if desired. (In
case of first years, imprest amount can be paid only after getting permanent roll number from College)
Those who are interested to use North Indian mess shall obtain tokens for North Indian mess from
mess supervisors between 25th to 27th of preceding month.
First year residents should obtain application for opening State Bank of India account at hostel info service.
Resident need not pay money for opening SBI savings bank account. SBI Pass Book and ATM Debit Card will
be given within a month and later payment of Establishment charges, mess charges may be paid through
SBI ATM using DEBIT CARD.
All the residents should remit an Additional Caution Deposit of Rs. 2000/- (Two Thousand only) along with
the above establishment charges.
Rooms will not be allotted to those who have not paid the Establishment Charge and additional Caution
th
deposit on or before 20 May 2010. Also Students should not have any mess dues.
The establishments charges, once paid will not be refunded, under any case, though the resident vacate the
hostel during semester for any reasons.
Since room allotment is done online, Computer will not allot rooms to those who have not paid establish
ment charge and mess dues before 20th May 2010.

Two days prior to the reopening of the College.
SMS gateway has been introduced and parents are informed to send the enclosed letter to hostel stating their
cell no. and their ward cell no. so that mess bill from June 2010 will be sent through SMS. Cell No. of the
SMS gateway at our hostel is 09942244425
All the students should report to hostel on 13.06.2010 or 14.06.2010., otherwise their rooms will be allotted to
other eligible students.
For non-payment of mess bill in time, fine will be calculated as mentiones below.
Students shall pay the previous month mess bill, e.g. March 2010 mess bill till 25th April 2010 without fine . From
26th April 2010 to 5th May 2010 a fine of Rs. 10 /day will be calculated and April 2010 bill will be released on
5th May 2010. If a students has not paid March 2010 mess bill till 5th May 2010 a fine of Rs. 300/- will be
added in his May 2010 mess bill. If the students do not pay the March 2010 bill even till 25th May 2010, then he
/ she has to vacate the hostel.

Residents should not bring food from outside.

4. GENERAL
All the Residents should return to the hostel on the date reopening of the college.

No person other than those admitted as residents of the hostel may stay in the hostel premises.
A student shall not occupy a room without allotment. Resident shall neither transfer nor
exchange their rooms with other resident.
Residents shall not sleep in other's rooms.
Anyone falling sick is advised to make use of PSG Hospital facilities and also inform the
same to Deputy Warden / Resident Tutors. Residents shall use the credit facility at
PSG Hospital by obtaining the credit form from Warden / Deputy Warden / Resident Tutors
before going to the Hospital. Residents resorting to treatment elsewhere without the
knowledge of the Warden / Deputy Warden / Resident Tutors, do so at their own risk.
The hostel authorities cannot be held responsible for any loss or theft of the belongings of
the residents. The residents must make their own arrangements for safe custody of the same.
DayScholars are not permitted inside the Hostel. Action will be taken against the residents who encourage and
permit the dayscholar to stay in their room. However dayscholars are permitted for valid reasons by produc
ing their college Identity card to the security guard during day time and with written permission obtained from
Warden / Dy. Warden / Resident Tutors, for night stay.
Every student admitted to the hostel will be issued a Hostel Identity Card. Students are advised to keep the
Identity Card safe in their possession.
The hostel ID must be shown for verification whenever security guard / other officials of the hostel ask the
same.
In case of loss of Hostel ID card, duplicate ID card will be given by paying Rs. 100/The ID card should be submitted at the time of vacating the hostel failing which Rs. 200/- will be deducted from
caution deposit.
Residents are expected to be dressed decently.
After final examination / viva voce, residents should leave the hostel immediately. Residents who leave for
winter / summer vacation should apply mess reduction failing which mess reduction will not be considered.

Residents are not allowed to do any kind of business inside the hostel.
Residents should keep their room allotment slip safely.

Residents should use road over bridge only to go to College and come back to hostel.

Residents should register their computers/other electrical appliances when they bring inside the hostel every
year.

Computers should be used only for academic purpose. If found they are being used for other than academic
purpose, their registration will be cancelled.
Cases of contagious disease shall immediately be reported to Warden / Dy. Warden / Resident Tutors / hostel
information service to take preventive measures.
Residents who would like to stay during winter / summer vacation at hostel for placement and othe academic
activities should submit vacation stay form (available at hostel office) signed by their HOD. Also resident's
parents should send a letter addressed to the warden by post stating that their ward is staying in hostel with
their permission.

5. STUDY / SILENCE PERIOD

The period between 9.30 p.m. and 6.00 a.m. is declared as STUDY / SILENCE PERIOD in hostel.
During this period, residents are directed not to use music systems. Do not make unnecessary noises
which may disturb others who will be studying / doing their class works.
TV rooms will be closed between 11.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. It can be used only during 6.00 a.m. to 11.00
p.m. TV volume should be kept low so that it will not disturb the residents.
After 9.30 pm, residents are not permitted to go to other rooms.
Residents are not permitted to enter into the hostel after 9.30 p.m. However, those who have worked in
the Laboratory during this period will be permitted after 9.30 p.m. by submitting the Lab Permission Slip.

6. EMERGENCY

In case of emergency, residents are informed to contact Warden / Dy. Warden / Resident Tutors / hostel
information service, for immediate help.

7. LEAVE
l

Residents are permitted to go home / local guardians place only on 3rd week end of every month. In case
of important work, Residents shall be permitted to go home / local guardians place after a permission
letter received from residents parents through post / courier. The Permission letter should be addressed
to warden and received three days in advance to the departure of the residents. In case of urgent work,
residents shall go home after obtaining permission from Warden / Dy. Warden / Resident Tutors.
Residents should register their attendence in Smart Card reader using the smart Card whenever they cross
the security gates.

8. LATE NIGHT PERMISSION

Senior men residents who want to go outside the hostel for urgent work beyond 9.30 pm should obtain
OUT PASS from Dy. Warden / Resident Tutors on the date of visit after 8.30 p.m.

9. MAINTENANCE AND UPKEEP OF HOSTELS

The furniture assigned to a room shall not be shifted from it. Residents shall be responsible for the articles
issued to them and shall return them in proper condition to the hostel authorities when leaving / vacating
the hostel. Residents shall be responsible for due compensation in case of any loss or damage to those
articles.
Residents should keep their room tidy and clean. They shall not disposed off litter in the verandahs or other
parts of hostel premises.
Civil complaints and electrical complaints of the rooms and blocks shall be entered separately in the register
kept at the entrance of blocks.
Residents should put off the electrical appliances while leaving the room.
Residents shall lock their rooms with a strong lock at all times for the protection of their property and
that of their roommates, while no one is in the room. Residents are informed to lock their rooms even
if they are not available for a few seconds.

Violation of the above rules and regulations of the hostel will lead to expulsion from the Hostel.
"HAVE A PLEASANT STAY"

Do's
1. Wake up early morning atleast by 6.00 a.m.
2. Keep your room clean
3. Wear cleaned clothes.
4. Dress decently
5. Keep your campus clean
6. Do physical exercise daily for the benefit of your health
7. Interact with your parents regularly
8. Lock your rooms while leaving out of the room.
9. Purchase only the required things for normal living in hostel.
10. Contact warden / resident tutor in case of any emergency
11. Pour enough water in toilet and urinals after usage
12. Go to class regularly
13. Keep your belongings safely in your room
14. After 9.00 pm, study or go to sleep.
15. Use hostel library, computer centre and sports facilities effectively
16. Use only road over steel bridge to go to college or come to hostel
17. Never keep empty stomach
18. Register your attendence daily in the smart card reader.
19. Follow human ethics always.
20. Go to class in time
21. Study well and score strong CGPA
22. Inform any misbehaving students to warden / Resident Tutor. By doing this, you are helping yourself
and hostel authorities
23. Eat all three times
24. Switch off lights, fans, computers, radios etc., while no one is using them.
25. Behave well with hostel staffs and security guards.
26. Keep your excess money in bank
27. Pay mess bill every month before deadline.
28. Check your mess bill details every month in college website.
29. Sleep in your room only.
30. Do not exchange your room with your friends
31. Register your computer at hostel information services every year freshly.
32. Report contagious disease immediately, if any
33. Use TVs will less volume
34. Obtain leave form 2 to 3 days prior to your depearture to your home.
35. Keep all the furniture's and other items safely.
DONT's
1. Do not skip break fast even for a single day
2. Do not cross play ground.
3. Do not go out of the hostel unnecessarily
4. Do not smoke, drink at any point of time in hostel
5. Do not play cards in hostel
6. Do not bring day scholars inside the hostel
7. Do not waste food.
8. Do not use costly cell phones or camera cell phones.
9. Do not spend your parent money unnecessarily.
10. Do not chat unnecessarily with friends
11. Do not paste posters / stickers in walls
12. Do not throw wastes out side the room. Put them in dust bins
13. Do not let negative things into your mind.
14. Do not bring outside food inside the hostel
15. Do not celebrate birthday in hostel
16. Do not worry, be happy always
17. Do not form any groups unnecessarily
18. Do not fire crackers in the hostel
19. Do not make noise.
20. Do not involve in ragging.
21. Do not possess powered vehicles.
22. Do not keep more money in room. Do not posses speakers for music system. Use ear phones.
23. Do not inform your computer password to your friends.
