Google is all set to help India implement Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi's
"Digital India" initiative, and the government has a well laid out plan to realize it,
said Google's Chief Internet Evangelist Vinton G. Cerf. Digital India is a Rs 1.13
trillion (US$ 18.27 billion) government initiative that seeks to transform the
country into a connected economy, attract investment in electronics
manufacturing, and create millions of jobs and support trade.
Advertising spending in India is expected to grow 12.6% year on year to Rs 48,977
crores, of which Digital Advertising spends will account for Rs 4,661 crore,
according to estimates by GroupM.
The Internet's share in total advertising revenue is anticipated to grow twofold
from 8 per cent in 2013 to 16 per cent in 2018, as per a joint report by
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
Online advertising, which was estimated at Rs 2,900 crore (US$ 468.84 million) in
2013, could jump threefold to Rs 10,000 crore (US$ 1.61 billion) in five years,
increasing at a compound annual rate of 28 per cent.
Indians paid Rs 25,200 crore (US$ 4.07 billion) to access the Internet in 2013, a
figure greater than the Rs 22,300 crore (US$ 3.61 billion) the print medium
garnered in subscription and advertising.
Gartner predicts a 70% growth rate for the eCommerce industry and
expects $6 billion worth of business in 2015.
Carat, the leading global media network, predicts digital spend to reach
more than 25% of total advertising spend in 2016, fuelled by upsurge in
mobile advertising spending in 2015.
By 2018 more than half of digital ad spend will go to mobile (total digital ad
spend $1,775 million, mobile 942 million).
The below table highlights digital marketing spending in India, which clearly indicates
significant growth from 2013 to 2018. Surprisingly, mobile ad spending is estimated to
increase by whopping 3500% by 2018. All these statistics reveals that companies are
allocating huge budget for their digital marketing activities and they are in great need of

E-Commerce is leading the charge in 2015 in terms of ad spend growth although from a
