FAQ - PATHWAY FOR MIA MEMBERS TO ACCA

WHY DID MIA AND ACCA ENTER INTO THIS AGREEMENT?


In line with the Malaysian governments agenda and CSAP recommendations to increase
the number of professionally qualified accountants in Malaysia this agreement provides all
MIA members with an incentivised pathway to ACCA, an internationally recognised
professional qualification.
WHO IS ACCA?
ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) is the global body for
professional accountants. We aim to offer business-relevant, first-choice qualifications to
people of application, ability and ambition around the world who seek a rewarding career in
accountancy, finance and management.
We support our 170,000 members and 436,000 students in 180 countries, helping them to
develop successful careers in accounting and business, with the skills required by
employers. We work through a network of 91 offices and centres and more than 8,500
Approved Employers worldwide, who provide high standards of employee learning and
development. Through our public interest remit, we promote appropriate regulation of
accounting and conduct relevant research to ensure accountancy continues to grow in
reputation and influence.
WHO WILL BE ELIGILBLE?
All MIA members of good standing who do not hold a professional accountancy qualification,
registered as MIA members at the time of signing this Agreement and candidates who
successfully register as MIA members whilst this Agreement is in force.
DOES THE AGREEMENT COVER MIA MEMBERS ONLY IN MALAYSIA?
No. The agreement offers MIA members around the world an incentivised pathway to ACCA.
WHAT IS THE TERM OF THE AGREEMENT?
The agreement commenced on 4 November for a period of 3 years. It will be re-visited for
possible renewal after this time.
DO I HAVE TO HAVE CERTAIN NUMBER OF YEARS OF EXPEREINCE TO BE
ELIGIBLE?
As long you are a MIA member, you will be eligible for this incentive regardless of the
number of years of working experience?
WHAT ARE THE INCENTIVES FOR MIA MEMBERS?
ACCA will provide a blanket exemption of nine (9) papers (F1-F9) from the ACCA
Qualification for all eligible MIA members. MIA members are only required to complete five
(5) Professional papers of the ACCA Qualification. The professional papers consist of:

Professional Essentials
P1 Governance, Risk and Ethics
P2 Corporate Reporting
P3 Business Analysis
Professional Options (two to be completed)
P4 Advanced Financial Management
P5 Advanced Performance Management
P6 Advanced Taxation
P7 Advanced Audit and Assurance
And
ACCA will waive the exemption fees for papers F1-F9 and initial registration fee.
WHAT IS THE COST OF REGISTRATION?
There is no cost of registration as the initial registration fee and exemption fee have been
waived through this agreement
IF IM A REGISTERED ACCA STUDENT WILL I BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS INCENTIVE?
Yes, you will be eligible for this incentive. ACCA will award the 9 papers exemption and fee
waiver for the initial registration and exemption fee. However, if you have paid for the initial
registration and exemption fee, no refund will be given.
IF IM A LAPSED REGISTERED ACCA STUDENT WILL I BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS
INCENTIVE?
Yes, you will be eligible for this incentive. ACCA will award the 9 papers exemption and fee
waiver for initial registration and exemption fee. ACCA will also absorb the reinstatement fee
from lapsed to active student.

UPON COMPLETING THE FIVE (5) PROFESSIONAL PAPERS WILL I BE ELIGIBLE FOR
ACCA MEMBERSHIP?
In addition to completing the relevant ACCA examination, all eligible MIA members using this
pathway must also comply with the ACCAs Practical Experience Requirement (PER) and
complete the ACCA Professional Ethics Online Module before being admitted to ACCA

IF I APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP WITH ACCA THROUGH THIS PATHWAY DO I HAVE TO
RETAIN MY MIA MEMBERSHIP?
Yes, Members are required to keep their MIA membership if they are accepted as a member
of ACCA.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO MAINTAIN MY MEMBERSHIP WITH ACCA?
To maintain your membership you will be required to pay annual membership fees, retain
your MIA membership status, and meet ACCAs Continuing Professional Development
(CPD) requirements. Members in practice will also be required to meet additional

IF I COMPLETE MY MIA CPD REQUIREMENTS, WILL THIS COUNT TOWARDS MY CPD


REQUIREMENTS AS AN ACCA MEMBER?
Yes. Completion of MIAs CPE requirements will satisfy the CPD requirements set by ACCA,
and vice versa. Both MIA and ACCAs CPD schemes are in accordance with required
International Federation of Accountants Standards and therefore equivalent to those of the
