OHS Orchestras Concert Attendance Requirement (50pts)

We are fortunate to live in a community with many talented musical artists, performing
ensembles, and concert venues. As orchestra musicians we work hard in personal practice and
group rehearsals to make great music; however, it is also important to be a part of what other
musicians do to truly grow as players. The goal of the semester concert attendance assignment
is to allow you to experience a LIVE and IN PERSON performance, reflect on your experience
through writing, and return to your orchestra ensemble with a fresh perspective.
Guidelines:
1) Qualifying performances must be outside the Okemos Public Schools Music Program
2) Qualifying performances must represent an orchestral string instrument.
3) To receive credit you must attach a program and/or ticket stub to the following form
and obtain a parent/guardian signature verifying attendance.
There are many concerts throughout the semester that will satisfy this requirement including
MSU Symphony performances, MSU student, faculty, or guest artist faculty string recitals,
Lansing Symphony concerts, Wharton Center events that include an orchestra or string soloist,
neighboring High School Orchestra Performances (East Lansing, Waverly, St. Johns), and many
more! If you are unsure if an event qualifiesask Mr. Schut!
In order to receive credit for attending a live performance:
Complete and attach the CONCERT ATTENDANCE form to the program of the concert
attended and place in the Orchestra Room Turn in Bin by the due date. Forms must
have parent/guardian signature to be considered complete.
*It is understood that even with advanced planning, on rare occasion a student may not be able
to physically attend a live performance each semester. Live webcasts approved in advance by
Mr. Schut and accompanied by a parent request note may be used in such instances. As
students cannot gain the full experience of attending a concert by watching a webcast, 2
webcast concerts will equal 1 live performance.

Attending a live concert can inspire, move, motivate, and even provide a life changing
experience. This is a great way to grow as a musician and to support other musicians like you!
Please turn in your concert attendance form WITHIN ONE WEEK OF THE PERFORMANCE. Failure
to complete this assignment will result in a lowering of the Assignments/Playing Tests/Projects
grade as outlined in the Orchestra Handbook.
